Nice art. I hear she's going to be a comedic princess.

actually this is a test animation from before they "redid" the story. the squirel was supposed to be named Rapunzel, and the girl, Claire. But since it was too "shrek-ish", they decided to make it a fairy-tale story, following the original rapunzel. thank god lol and i think this is just a test voce for her, but i'm not sure...

Rapunzel!

Post by Disney Duster »

Wow, supertalies, THANK YOU!!!!! YOU ARE SO GOOD AT FINDING THINGS! YOU'RE THE BEST!!! This was not seen here before, and now we have seen it and is the most gorgeous CGI animation ever! I certainly hope the rumors of John Lasseter trying to change this into 2-D are false, or that Glenn Keane doesn't let it happen!

Animation is stunning, and the princess reminds me of Ariel for some reason. She has that sweet naive tone to her voice. Anyhow, color me even more excited for this release. Long overdue if you ask me! :)

supertalies Thank you so much for posting this!!

I have never been a great fan of CG animation, but this looks amazing!!
I love how fluent it looks and as someone has already posted, there is a warm glow on the whole thing which makes it look absolutely stunning and inviting at the same time!!

Who is the Princess' voice??! I thought Kristin Chenoweth agreed to provide her voice. But maybe this is just a test, so they didn't care who did the voice-acting for this clip.

I am so excited for this movie!!

I hate to burst the bubble, but I've seen that footage around a year ago.

This is from before the Disney/Pixar merger.

lasseter doesn't really have any say at this point on what form of animation the movie will be in. its far too late in development to go back to hand drawn at this point. even though lasseter wants it to be handrawn, there's no turning back now.

Thanks supertalies. That was great. You all know I'm a 3-D hater but this has a 2-D quality I can't deny. Awesome.

U so hope you are right.

Are you quite sure Lasseter won't find an excuse for restarting the project in 2D, after he made it so clear that he wants no more 3D films from Disney after "Meet the Robinsons"?

I hope the Wicked Witch will be better than the dreadful villainess in the Barbie version of this classic fairy tale!!

Well, it can't be worse, could it?

But I suppose, they'll make her an evil witch instead of the enchantress who wants to protect Rapunzel.

Well, who knows? Disney's had an awful lot of evil witches in the past, so they might go with the other take on the 'villain'.

As Nandor says, who knows? Disney's stereotypical characters are oftentimes more than they appear.

from Wikipedia:
Though the film will be made entirely in CGI, Rapunzel will resemble traditional oil paintings on canvas[citation needed]. One of the main ambitions of the makers of Rapunzel is to create movements that are just as soft and fluid as of that in the old Disney Classics (as seen in this short test clip).

Very few details have been released about this film, except that in October of 2005, production was halted in order to "retool" it. Early versions of Rapunzel (then titled Rapunzel Unbraided) had been criticized by top Disney artists and executives for having too many similarities to the 2001 DreamWorks hit animated film Shrek, which parodied numerous fairy tales and Disney animated films. The retooling is expected to take two years, with Rapunzel's release date being pushed back from 2007 to 2009. Many classic Disney films often go through this retooling phase[citation needed]. In July 2006, Disney's new creative head John Lasseter admitted that he is very pleased with Rapunzel thus far, after seeing a nearly-completed first act.
So it will simply be called Rapunzel (which I'm much happier about) and it's animated to look like a painting. It also will take itself seriously, instead of being a fairytale spoof. thank goodness for John Lasseter, I couldnt have stood the two awkward teen story. Its okay if theyre awkward, but no "pulling into fairytale world" it has to feel like a real fairytale.

There was also another picture with a dog in it, but it's been taken down. I still have it on my other computer, I believe, so I'll post it when I get a chance.
