The Little Mermaid on Broadway

I understand why people think it's tacky based on the video, but please don't let that be your decision on whether or not you want to see the show. It's an amazing experience. I live an hour away from the city, so I go in to see shows about four times a year. The Little Mermaid offers something completely new and it was fantastic. The story line was changed a bit, but it wasn't enough to make me twitch. The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite Disney movies, so I was afraid going into it, but it was completely worth it.

I got to meet the cast as well after. All I wanted was to meet Cody (who is one of the Flounders) and I was able to. I took a picture with Cody and Norm Lewis (Triton), and my aunt took pictures of everyone else signing my poster. Sierra signed it, but no picture. Cody was singing Christmas carols while signing and it was great. It's a fantastic cast and show, so I highly recommend it. I've been lucky enough to see it twice and I can't wait to go again.

All I have to say is give it a chance. I'm kind of shocked about all the negativity really. I mean it's not a perfect show, no show is perfect, but you just have to see it for yourself. The video preview is horrid compared to the actual show.

I do have to say that there were some things that I didn't like about the show like Ursula. I thought the character was made more into a Morgana from TLMII, which isn't what I wanted but it worked. On that note, TLM on stage is not the same as the original movie. They've made some adjustments to the story line, which for me gave some people (Eric) a better character.

I think it's too easy to be negative about things, and a lot of people on this board proove that all too well.

First, I do believe in perfect shows. Lion King and Beauty and the Beast were. IMO, the costumes were perfect, the music was perfect, the sets were perfect, etc.

I don't tend to automatically think negatively. I first thought the idea was different when I heard TLM was going to Broadway. But I also remembered how I thought TLK would never make it as a Broadway show, but I was wrong and its my favorite Broadway show. So I was giving TLM a chance, I was thinking positively because I thought the concept might be cool and imaginative. And some of it is imaginative, but that doesn't mean I like it. I've seen enough clips and photos now to know I wouldn't really spend the money to see it live. I rather see TLK live again.

But if you seem to know me so well and how negative I can be (and that's all sarcastic), please point to how I am such an absolutely negative person on this forum. For the most part, I am positive and I reserve my judgment on things till I see enough to feel comfortable passing my judgment. And my judgment thus far is that TLM looks like a glorified cruise ship show. You can't really change that by calling me negative, as much as I can't change your opinion. It is what it is. I am sure the show won't suffer because I don't buy a ticket.

It wasn't even directed at you, it was more for anyone who was considering not seeing it based on the video or any other form of publicity they thought made it look bad.

I will say I plan to buy the soundtrack. I like most the music, including some new songs.

My main complaint for the musical was Eric. I didn't like him all that much and his song, Her Voice, was a good song but had incredibly boring staging. xD

also-i noticed in the official website they said that "Your favorite Disney princess is on Broadway",it's reminds me of the Cinderella and Little Mermaid Platinum Editions's sites that they said "starting-your favorite Disney princess!" it's like "Oh look! Ariel\Cinderella was so poplure after her chocolate\books\doll line so she got her own movie!" they also called Pocahontas "statrting-the bravest Disney princess!" so Giselle is "starting-the hotest Disney princess!",Mulan is "The most storngest Disney princess",and Aurora is "the Disney princess that you don't know anything about her the most!".

I'm getting your messege very clearly, but I would like to know when I said that you were being negative. I was remarking about how this thread had been going in the past few posts. Please don't put those words in my mouth. I didn't quote you specifically or use your name. I never said that YOU were being negative. Also, I know it's your opinion so I'm not trying to sway it. I'm just saying that I found it to be good and that I don't think that much of the publicity supports it well. So I don't think that one can really rely on it.

As for my theory of "the perfect show". It's impossible because there will never be a show that everyone in the world will enjoy, sue to personal tastes or whatever. I know people who didn't like TLK at all, for example. How can it be perfect then? In your case, TLM isn't good. So it's not perfect either. My other point (from my original post that you took very personally) is that at least the people that didn't like TLK tried it out.

Anyone know when the soundtrack album will be released? For those of us who can't see the show it's as close as we'll ever get. Been looking forward to it since I downloaded the demos last year.

I agree, tsom, the demo sounded like a better version than what we got, and I want to know how it would have been.

But how can I think that "Broadway Abridged" thing is credible when the author thinks the man playing the seagull (Scuttle by Eddie Korbich) voiced Jafar and it was actually the one called Very Very English Guy (Grimsby by Jonathan Freeman) who voiced Jafar? Even though it was very funny, and I know that people often exaggerate to make things funny. Wait, like Sherie Rene Scott (I await my opinion until I actually see her live).

Wait a second,something bothers me about She's In Love (there's the songs on YouTube)-why Flounder is singing with them? he dosn't keep the fact that Ariel is in love so Triton won't be mad at them?.

And something that wasn't on that video, after the song, Triton asks Flounder if Ariel is in love. And he replies "I didn't know it was love, until the second chorus."

I was just on Playbill, and it looks like they are doing a "Virtual Opening Night" for The Little Mermaid on Jan. 10 at 9pm on PlaybillRadio.com. They are going to play the entire cast album (which is not in stores until Feb 25) and have interviews from the red carpet, thats opening night.

I absolutely loved the song She's In Love, since it was discussed before. xD Just wanted to share. It was my favorite new song; Cody Hanford did a spectacular job with it.

I just read the news on the new kids! I saw Trevor Braun as Chip when I saw Beauty and the Beast; he was adorable. I've heard JJ sing She's in Love on Youtube, and saw Cody live twice, but it's tough to decide who I want to hear on the cast recording. They're both fantastic, so I hope it's one of the two of them. I think they deserve it since they're technically part of the original cast, not Trevor or Brian. But whatever decision is made will be for the best, I'm sure.

I guess we'll find out when they do the cast recording preview on January 10th on playbill.com. I'm so exited. I want to go see the show again badly, but it's expensive. xD

I bought the poster at the gift shop and had the cast sign it afterwards. Out of the main characters, I'm missing Sherie Scott (Ursula) and Tyler Maynard (Flotsam) because they both left early. My aunt took pictures of everyone autographing the poster, but I turned to the camera for a picture with Norm Lewis (Triton) and Cody Hanford. I want a picture with Sierra though. She was fantastic. I'm just glad I got that picture with Cody because he's leaving.

Wait,i"m confused now,so he dosn't know about Eric at all? or he dosn't know that she fell in love with him? he wasn't with her when she rescued Eric? what about Sebastian?.
