I'm likewise surprised "Trip a Little Light Fantastic" didn't get the nomination, but I guess more voters were in a sentimental mood. Either way, the nomination is the reward for Mary Poppins as "Shallow" is the clear front runner.

It's unfortunate that Emily Blunt has yet been nominated for an Oscar. Yet, it's good that she wasn't nominated for this because this was Julie's shining moment. Since they're going to whore out Julie's MP legacy to make pointless sequels ( ), let that Oscar nomination/win be executive to Julie, y'know.

As things for Emily can’t get more disappointing...they aren’t letting Emily perform :(

Really unfair they aren't letting the song be performed at the Oscars. I bet if "Trip a Little Light Fantastic" was nominated instead the producers would have enthusiastically allowed LMM to sing.

Blunt's not a real singer. She's of the lip-synced variety like most actors in Hollywood musicals these days. I doubt she could pull off a live performance of it. I couldn't see Meryl Streep singing songs from this or Mamma Mia or Into the Woods live either, for example, if they had been nominated.

You’re actually right about that. It’s no coincidence that the only artists who are singing are famous celebrities. Lin is at that rank. Heck, I don’t think Sarah or Gal would be singing APCSR if it got nominated.

I don't like when they do that. It's unfair to the rest of nominees. The producers should either let all the songs be performed or none of them, but not only the most popular ones. If it's because of time issues, one solution could be to perform a medley of all the nominated songs on stage.

I very much have to disagree with you there; Emily is indeed a ‘real’ singer. She was even offered a record contract but turned it down as she felt acting was more for her. If you care to look at the two James Corden Late Late shows where he does out and out musical numbers, Emily is right along there with him, singing beautifully. I can’t link as I’m on my phone but if you have a quick google they are there.

It will be a huge shame if they only have two songs performed....if they wanted to really ram it home they may as well just show Gaga and Cooper permorning as they have it tied up anyway ?

And she barely rehearsed for those performances. Just because 'The Place Where Lost Things' wasn't sung live in the film it doesn't mean she can't do it.

The most baffling part of this decision is Disney owns ABC. They made them promote 'Black Panther' and 'A Wrinkle in Time' last year. I don't understand it.

^I know you're a big fan of this film and of Emily Blunt and it's nice to see you defending her, but you could do it more politely. There's no need to attack other members. If Disney's Divinity didn't know Emily had sung live before or didn't remember it, it's not such a big deal. You don't have to be an expert on something before commenting on it.

Even Katy Perry can get a record contract. I know Blunt can sing 'okay.' I remember she was in a skit imitating Beyonce's "Lemonade" while impersonating Ivanka Trump (and singing backup to Cecily Strong as Melania) on SNL back in 2016, and her voice was fairly pretty. But that's not the same as giving a full-fledged performance at the Oscars in front of all her peers. I wonder if it's really a case of her being snubbed. I'm sure she could've reached out to Disney and had them push to get her a performance slot if she really wanted. I'm not too upset though since I was hoping "Nowhere to Go But Up" might have been the song nominated anyway. Maybe the Oscars are just going to be shortened this year because of the host issues.

That's kind of you, D82. :)

I know The Fish must be feral and spewing blood all over Its monitor like when Sotiris criticized the soundtrack back when, but thankfully I have It on block now.

But Amy Adams isn't a strong singer at all and they had her perform.

That's absolutely awful! I could understand if they were cutting all performances or having a medley of kinds like that year Down to Earth was nominated, but just picking some and neglecting others is awful. I really hope this decision won't stand. Do they even have a host yet to decide that they want more time for boring monologues?

Amy Adams was given an easier song to sing at the Oscars which is why she performed. That's why she sang Happy Working Song and Kristen Chenoweth sang That's How You Know, since she is a professional singer and could handle the stronger song live unlike Adams.

There's not going to be a host this year. The last time that happened was when the Oscars had that infamous Rob Lowe and Snow White dance number.

I agree. Either perform all of the songs or none at all (they did the latter option the year "The Princess and the Frog" was nominated as well as that weird year when only two songs were nominated).

This isn't only a slight on Emily Blunt. The song from "RBG" is performed by Jennifer Hudson, who is a renowned singer in her own right and even won an Oscar for acting in a successful musical.

This is all part of ABC and the Academy's plan to limit the show to three hours. Why does it only have to be three hours? The ceremony is only once a year and I don't think reducing the airtime is going to change diminishing ratings. And that may not be a problem this year, since extremely popular films like Black Panther, A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody are nominated for best picture and that usually drives up interest in the awards show.

They already don't have a host, so the show won't open with a ten minute montage. I imagine there will be a few less montages this year. I dislike they're pulling this stunt with the Original Song performances and also presenting a few awards during the commercials.

So I was right that they want to shorten this year's show.

You think 'Happy Working Song' is easier to sing than 'The Place Where Lost Things Go'?

I haven't mentioned Emily Blunt at all nor her song. Disney Duster mentioned that Amy Adams was allowed to sing and I explained that while she did song at the Oscars, they gave her the easier song from Enchanted to sing.
