I love it! I wonder if she is going to record that song in English, too...

Weird. It didn't say it a few days ago. It does now for me as well.

Mulan First Reactions Suggest An Immersive Remake With Spirit Of The Original

I’m floored by these. Disney must have left out a ton from the trailers because I never would’ve guessed the movie these people are talking about was the one they’ve been advertising. I know first reactions are usually more positive, but these are glowing. I might actually be excited about this now.
I was surprised too the reactions were so positive. We'll have to wait for the actual reviews to see if critics actually liked the film so much, but this looks like a good sign.

Is that supposed to be the transformation sequence? It's painfully underwhelming. I knew they wouldn't have her cut her hair, but I never realized they would scrap the entire sequence and transition to her wearing her father's armor immediately.
I was surprised by that too. I don't know, but I think it's possible that clip was edited and the sequence will be longer in the movie.

I'm always skeptical about first reaction reviews, especially about films that rely heavily on Nostalgia.

I do remember the initial reactions for "The Lion King" remake were extremely positive and then when the actual reviews came out, the response was more mixed.

I'm really looking forward to "Mulan", but I've also learned at this point that the first reactions are often on the positive side.

No offense, but I find the score in that scene incredibly plain, and when compared to Jerry Goldsmith's music in the corresponding scene from the original, it sounds even worse.
The music is very oriental-ish, as in many oriental movies.. and I really APPRECIATE it 8) and honestly am looking forward to hearing it combined to the 'Mulan' story :D Feels epic in its own unique way.

If you don't like this kind of music, then you just don't: not everyone does indeed. And probably you'll dislike the whole movie score. It's just fair.

Then, when it comes to comparing this scene to the original 1998 Mulan one, I'd say it's a bit like insisting to determine who's the winner between eating a burger or eating an ice-cream ^^' Well, both can taste absolutely great, it's just maybe too utterly different to be comparable.. ^^ And though I REALLY like and want to defend the 1998 Mulan (and actually don't think it needs to be defended), this movie is well-known to be "americanized" in its portrayal of the Chinese culture in more aspects than one (and musically too). It's fine to see them following another track here.

Very pleased to hear you praise the score and say that it wasn't Americanized like the original Mulan film. It's funny how I never heard people complain as much about the changes to Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland, etc. as much as I've heard complaints over every little change for this film.

Christina really is the only bright spot of this monstrosity, isn't she?

I'll be honest I'm not wasting the time to load clips for this film anymore, so decided to just ask: They didn't keep the music from the scene where she cuts her hair and leave the family? If not, that's incredibly stupid.
Sotiris wrote: I'm also glad Christina got a new song; I just wish it had been written by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel instead of some random pop songwriters.
I think she's at the point in her career where her own people are going to write the songs she makes for soundtracks, like "We Remain" for The Hunger Games or "Telepathy" for The Get Down soundtrack. "Reflection" may have been a different case both because she was a new artist and because of the way Disney does things now. They rarely have end credit versions of in-film songs anymore. Instead we get a random song donated from a pop artist at the end.

Nope. Now, it's some generic Asian-sounding score. There's not much of a transformation sequence either anyone. We see her holding her father's sword and then it cuts to her wearing her father's armor ready to leave.

But the remake's composer, Harry-Gregson Williams, is credited as one of the writers of the new song and the remake's director, Niki Caro, is directing the music video for it, which has never been done before. So, I don't think this is just another case of a pop star bringing her own team to write her songs. I believe this was primarily Disney's call. It seems to me they had more say on the new song than Christina.

Well, that sucks, considering that scene is the heart of the story. Disregarding the loss of the music, hopefully the scene at least is longer in the finished product.

OK, thanks for that info. You're right then, it's a shame they didn't bring back the original people to put together something for her in that case. I guess this has to do with all this being a slapdash attempt to appease the people angry over the music being cut. All this time and money, and yet this thing feels very messy.

Considering the lead actress' version of "Reflection" is in another language and "Loyal Brave True" is fairly sedate, I suppose Aguilera's new recording of "Reflection" will probably be the same as the original rather than a stripped down version because that'll be the only way to add some oomph to the end credits.

Mulan is being delayed indefinitely. No new release date has been set yet.
On March 12, the London premiere of Mulan had just wrapped when the film’s director Niki Caro received the call everyone was anticipating. Executives in Los Angeles had made the decision to pull the Disney tentpole and were about to make the announcement, scuttling plans for a European junket that had just kicked off. The move didn’t come as a surprise. After all, less than a day before, President Donald Trump announced a new ban on most travel from Europe, aimed at stopping the spread of the coronavirus. That travel ban torpedoed any plans to promote the $200 million film in the lucrative European market. And with 70,000 theaters still shuttered in China and U.S. cinemas looking iffier by the minute, Disney had no alternative.

That's indeed the logical thing to do.
It's safer for everybody.
I suppose and hope Europe will follow that move.

Yes, it's definitely the safest thing to do. Are most movies being delayed now that were going to release this next month?

I suspected that would eventually happen. I wonder when it'll be released now and how/if it'll affect the rest of Disney's schedule.

Here's a message from the director:
