Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition (October 5th!)

Has anyone bought the B&B box set that includes the DVD/Blu-ray combo and a book? There's absolutely *no* detail on the DisneyMovieClub web site *or* at Amazon as to what the book is. I'll probably buy it anyway, since with the current 60% off deal it's less than two dollars more, but I have a co-worker who would like to know in case he'd like to get one for his daughter, who is just now getting in to reading.

Any help?

I pray Jordin Spark's Music Video is on there and some Bonus Features not on the Platinum Edition DVD.

Am I the only one who thinks that in the preliminary art, Belle looked not only more on-model, but like she was actually looking more at the Beast's eyes?

Just gotten the US Diamond Edition in a DVD case from Ebay.
Should I be concerned that although shrinkwrapped the case doesn't have the sealing sticker on the top of the case? Or is that only on bluray cases?

I have a question about the work in progress version.

I thought someone said that the work in progress version had a small screen within the screen with the real film with it's original colors?

But it turns out to be that on the dvd there is no small screen at all?
It's just the wip version?

And on the blu ray it's the other way around? The normal film in the big screen and the wip version in a small screen?

Is there anything else that stands out to make you think it was opened previously? I once bought a non-Disney release from eBay, and although it came shrink-wrapped, there was no sealing sticker, as you mentioned. I also noticed that the barcode on the paper sleeve had a hole punctured through it.

I found out later that this means it was a promotional copy sent out for reviews and such, and not meant for retail. The seal had been removed so that the paper sleeve could be pulled out in order to puncture the barcode hole (so it couldn't be scanned). Oher than that the discs were in perfect condition and looked like they were never touched or played, so I didn't complain to the seller.

Not sure if that is the case with yours, but if you suspect it is either used (but labeled as new) or a bootleg, I would check it over closely and/or contact the seller.

Hum...I don't know what to think. I suppose all original US
home entertainment releases come with the sealing sticker on top.
However, the shrink wrap appear to read disc made in Mexico which I've previously seen on Disney DVD shrink wraps so I'm thinking the DVD case for this release doesn't come with sealing sticker...can anyone tell how theirs was when they bought it?

i have this one and the Snow White one but too lazy to take picks of the b&tb one so i will from the snow white, which i have handy. It's the same type of book. Here is a picture of the table of contents of the Snow White book it is the same thing for b&tb. hth

I saw an advertisement for it on tv today. The colors were just as bright and fucked up as they were on the Platinum. You think they're just segments they've taken from the previous dvd edition, or are they equally bad on the new Diamond? And the bonus features on the DVD, are they really as good as was told on UD?

Depends how much you already know about the production of Beauty and the Beast. If you've seen all the 2002 bonus features, all the youtube clips, and read various sources, there's little that's new in the "Beyond Beauty" documentary, as they essentially regurgitate the facts in new interviews with less people than last time. But it's still a good watch and still a good amount of information. The Blu-Ray's interactive presentation is a glorified version of the branching options for Aladdin and Lilo & Stitch, but it still sucks that there are some good features omitted on the DVD (the Character Development features, the smaller-than-the-DVD galleries), that could easily fit.

The "Broadway Beginnings" feature was rather fluffy, but still was fun to watch. What would have made it better was if they had interviewed the original Broadway cast (especially since Tom Bosley, the original Maurice, recently passed away).

The best of the new features is probably "Composing a Classic", it's a great conversation (a bit luvvy towards BATB, but no surprise there) all about the music, with Menken playing snippets of each one on the fly.

From the Classic DVD Features, you get most everything from the 2002 set except the documentary (:(), games (:roll:), and galleries (:(), but since the new documentary does the same job as the old one, it's not a small loss, but still significant.

The DVD has it as a separate version, and the Blu-ray has it in a smaller window. The parts that were finished are most likely sourced from the latest version, so for the 'original' colors you'd have to stick with your Laserdisc.

The omitted galleries were the Publicity Galleries and the Broadway Galleries, but the galleries that are on the Blu-Ray (Storyboard Art, Character Design, Visual Development, Backgrounds) are smaller than they were on the DVD and no long include the docent audio on select stills. The smaller galleries are not included on the new DVD either. :\

I'm still seriously peeved that we didn't get an interview with Susan Egan - next to Paige O'Hara she's the only other mainstay when it comes to the Belle voice and vocals used in the continuing Disney merchandise and recording projects. Agreed, Escapay, a complete reunion for the original cast would have been amazing. What a missed opportunity.

Wait .... so there was no inclusion of Susan AT ALL on this release ? Even though she voices Belle AND was the original Belle on Broadway, which they have a feature on .... ?

Disney makes no sense. Ever. Period !

I've got the Blu combi pack with no player as of yet, so havnt been able to see any of the features.

Nope. No Susan. There's Ashley Brown though (probably to do a cheap reference to her other big Disney/Broadway starring role as "Mary Poppins") plus stunt cast Belle's like Jamie Lynn Sigler and Deborah Gibson; but NOTHING from the woman who originated the role on Broadway.

A HUGE SLIP-UP from Disney. Susan is still used for Belle's voice in various projects and still holds the role fondly, so to be over-looked on the Blu-ray is very disappointing.
