I feel that the new synopsis could show that Maleficent would be more vicious/wicked in the final version of the film.disneyprincess11 wrote:A little better, but it will still have that stupid ending

Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
Sorry for bumping this thread yet again, but did you all hear about the reshoots that happend in October last year about re-doing the opening? Well what adds to it and I don't know if this could be just speculation, but Maranda Richardson's name has been removed from the cast list on IMDB.
What is going on here?? Has the opening really needed changing THAT BADLY? If some of you have read the leaked script then you remember that Richardson's character: Was fed up with Maleficent and her obvious hate for the queen's already obvious stupidity so she curses Maleficent to wear the horns as a crown as punishment. I guess they thought it was stupid so they removed her altogether.
What do you think of this development?

Yeah, I remember the reshoots. I believe they also replaced the actress who played teenaged Malificent for those reshoots. So I'm pretty sure the opening must have changed.

Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
I saw the trailer before Frozen like many others. Still doesn't grab me.
I'll probably miss this one out. I'm selective in my epic fantasy films and I'm also not fond of Angelina Jolie. I echo what others have said - Ellie Fanning looks too young. I would have preferred someone who is older.
Sleeping beauty is a film I've seen near constantly since being a child so I have a set idea how the characters should look which doesn't help.
If I hear its fantastic I might budge. But I won't be seeing it opening weekend.

As far as I can tell, a HUGE plot point in the beginning of the movie must have been changed following these re-shoots. On IMDb, Miranda Richardson has been removed from the cast list, which might indicate that her character has been removed from the film. As I recall from the script, her character is the one who curses Maleficent with her horns which begs the question of how does that happen now? I honestly didn't mind the beginning that much in the script, it was later parts I had issues with, but I'm still anxious to see how much it has changed, hopefully for the better!supertalies wrote:Yeah, I remember the reshoots. My problem with the beginning though is that the entire thing feels to much like a sob story for us to feel bad for Maleficent. I'm glad that the reshoots have happened. I hope that Paul and Linda made a better script together after the leaked script came out... It's interesting, but the execution is quite bad.lord-of-sith wrote:As far as I can tell, a HUGE plot point in the beginning of the movie must have been changed following these re-shoots. Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
Creating any form of sympathy for Maleficent is a fundamentally flawed concept.
She's beloved as a villain because she has no clear motive other than being the f****ing mistress of all evil. She's a badass. She doesn't care. So why should we be treated to some sob backstory about how she had her heart broken?
It's frightening to see how much Disney underestimates its audience. The live action division needs a Lasseter style makeover. And I don't even care that much for Lasster these days so that says a lot about the pathetic shape they're in.

Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
If I wrote this movie, here's an idea that could work while keeping Maleficent's evil: She never trusted anyone in her home kingdom, even to the point where she likes to make her kind afraid of her due to her powers and appearance. One day Stefan arrives and she is confused as to why he supports her on her kingdom's "uselessness" and she thinks he'll help her to get the throne. But of course he betrays her as he did in the leaked script and she is enraged by it that she fully accepts her evil and won't show any remorse for vengance against him.PatrickvD wrote:Creating any form of sympathy for Maleficent is a fundamentally flawed concept.

I guess that's how I would write it.

While I was waiting for Wonder Over Yonder on Disney Channel, something caught my attention: There is going to be a special sneek peek of Maleficent on January 17th. I think were going to get a new trailer.
There was some brief footage of it with Maleficent's shadow and we hear her say: "Well, well..."

I can't wait to see this preview! This particular costumes looks very in line with the original look (you can see some of her neck and chest, but it's pretty close) and the fairies look like the originals as well! The look of the fairies clearly shows a change from the script. What little we can hear of the "Well well" from that recording sounds a lot like Eleanor Audley! Friday needs to get here in a hurry!

She really does sound a lot like her, it's no wonder why Angelina wanted to play Maleficent; plus I want Friday to hurry up and it's already Monday.lord-of-sith wrote:I can't wait to see this preview! Damn ! She is so much like Eleanor ! Glad she is paying so much homage, and not putting too much of her own spin on things, you know? I don't think you can beat the original vocal performance.

I have seen the new trailer and this time it looks very, very promising compared to the teaser. Angelina Jolie's got this down, can't wait for May 30th.
Note: In the end trailer credits it seems that Linda Woolverton has sole credit for the screenplay.
