We finally know who will be playing Mr potato head. It's Don Rickles. No further info was given, I'm going assume it'll be like Doc Hudson in cars 3. As far as we know, he did not get to record the part.

Josh Cooley gives more details in a new article:

“Of course we loved Don obviously, and after he passed, his family contacted us and asked if there was any way that we could create a performance using the recordings that we had,” Cooley tells EW. “Now, he signed to be in Toy Story 4. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to record him for the film. But we went through, jeez, 25 years of everything we didn’t use for Toy Story 1, 2, 3, the theme parks, the ice capades, the video games — everything that he’s recorded for Mr. Potato Head. And we were able to do that. And so I’m very honored that they asked us to do that, and I’m very honored that he’s in the film. Nobody can replace him.”

That's really sweet that they managed to use Don Rickles as the character again. I wonder if that can last forever though, considering a TS5 seems inevitable and who knows from there.

I was thinking the same thing. They kinda painted themselves a corner with that kind of comment. Unless they're confident they can get two more movies out of the archival stuff.

Who knows, with the way tech is going, they can just put use computers to simulate any new lines they might need. We already have the tech. Look up the demo adobe put out on this.

The footage shown based on the descriptions sounds promising. It turns out they aren't doing a retcon after all with Bo Peep. She was donated, not lost. That's how she ends up at the antique shop. But then how did she get damaged? Woody never being chosen to play with reminds of Stinky Pete's situation. I wonder who the Mayor doll is. We haven't seen her on any publicity materials or merch yet.

I agree that the footage sounds promising, and I'm glad too they aren't doing a retcon with Bo Peep. I'm also curious about the Mayor doll and why she hasn't been revealed yet. Maybe it's just because it's a small role, but what if she was the real villain of the film and not Gaby Gaby? I wouldn't be surprised if there was a surprise villain after all.

Mainly speculation on my part, so not a spoiler exactly but figured I'd put that here anyway

Hmmm.....do you think there's any chance Bo Peep will be the real villain? I mean she does say who needs a kid when you have all this (the carnival) Lotso and Prospector said this, though neither was an established characters such as Bo Peep.

One thing that surprised me about this article is that it mentions that Andy's dad appears in the flashback where we learn what happened with Bo Peep. If that's true, we would see Andy's father for the first time in Toy Story 4.

^ that would be great. I'm already loving the small ones, probably just a matter of time before we see the massive resolution versions. I can get them printed myself if I really need to. I've never seen them so believable before. Makes me wish the toys could look that nice.

Speaking of toys, they are finally releasing a woody with a movie accurate default expression. His mouth and eyes at least. They just had to go and raise that one eye brow.

My hope though is that they revise the toy story collection version of him using this head sculpt. If not I guess I can perform some surgery.

We are also getting a slinky dog with the rope not coming out of his head. He's still quite inaccurate for my tastes.

You also got to join the Toy Story franchise and voice a doll for Toy Story 4. How cool is that?

HENDRICKS: It’s so cool!

What’s it like to not only join a beloved animated film series, but to do so as a new character who, just by looking at her, is clearly going to make an impression?

HENDRICKS: I was so thrilled. I kept pinching myself and going, “Wait, do they really want me, or are they auditioning me?” I would be in there, day after day, during the recording, thinking, “Maybe they’re recording someone else, at the same time. I don’t know.” I just thought it seemed too good to be true. I was really so thrilled. The first time that I went in, they showed me some animation, showed me the doll, and showed me her minions, who are these creepy ventriloquist dolls. I was like, “You guys have no idea how perfect this is for me. I actually have a weird ventriloquist doll at my house.” Of course, the doll looks like me, so I was in heaven. Not only that, my doll lives in an antique store. I was like, “You don’t understand. I’ve spent half of my life in antique stores. You guys got in my weird brain.” So, I get to see it tomorrow (on March 27, 2019) for the first time. I’ve only seen my stuff, but I get to see the full film tomorrow. I can’t wait. It’s gonna be like Christmas.

Who is this doll? What leads a doll to have a gang of ventriloquist dummies as her henchmen?

HENDRICKS: The idea behind Gabby Gabby is that when she was made, she was made defective. Her voice box never worked. In the Toy Story world, the one thing that a toy is supposed to do is to be there to love a child, and have a child love them back, but no child has ever wanted her ‘cause she’s defective. She’s from the 1950s, and she’s been stuck in the curio cabinet of an antique store, seeing kids coming in and out, every once in awhile with their parents, just wanting to love, and be loved. She’s a bad guy, but you completely understand where she’s coming from. So, when she meets Woody, she’s like, “Oh, my gosh. He’s got a voice box and it works.” That’s who Gabby Gabby is. The idea is that she’s this naughty, weird, creepy baby doll, but then, you go, “Oh, my gosh, she just wants to fulfill her toy dream.”

I have one that is similar to the Toy Story collection version which was made to tie in with the release of Toy Story 3 (one of the few pieces of merchandise from Disney movies I own). It's pretty accurate, but I think I had never realized the default expression wasn't. It's great they've released one that is.

It must be original footage specifically created for the commercial. Pixar wouldn't be so careless as to release the ending of the movie in an ad. It looks like it was based on the sequence that was previewed at CinemaCon where the toys are anxious for Bonnie's first day at school.
