O.k., so i just watched it and here are my thoughts:
Aurora's story has issues. The music is poor and I agree with Disney Duster that it's just a Rule Britainia rip off. It would have been better if they used a more classical style, even more of Tchikosvky's original ballet for ispiration. The jokes were not really funny, and Sleeping Beauty had only a handful of physical gags. Most were verbal, and this short could have used some to help it from being dumbed down for kids. Aurora's character is too modern tennage. her original character was very mature and didn't wear pink. The backgrounds were done well and the basic story was good, but what was with all the background characters from Hunchback of Notre Dame making cameos?
Jasmine's story was just a bigger budget episode of the TV series, so I had no problems with it.
As a side thought, why doesn't Disney make a Disney Hero Adventure Tales (or something like that) DVD for boys? It could be done really well and exciting without being as lame as the Princess stuff. Of course there would be cross over stuff, but what does everyone else think?

Thinking about it, if you see Enchanted Tales as an epic, beautiful and worthy follow up to the original films then chances are than you will be disappointed with it. But if you see it as a cute spin off featuring your favorite characters in situations meant to teach you a lesson then it ain't so bad.
While Disney can do better if people expect something epic and beautiful out of the Enchanted tales them they are bound to be disappointed.

I just finished watching this and here's what I thought.
The intro's for each story seemed a bit patronizing to me, as well as the morales seemed a bit forced here at the beginning and ends.
Aurora's Story:
I noticed that Flora, Fauna and Merryweather seemed a bit off to me, there was something about them that didn't seem right. As well as King Stefan, I noticed he looked a bit older in the face or at least he did to me. I think she had more lines in this short cartoon than her movie
Her story was ok, again the morale seemed a bit forced here and there.
Jasmine's Story:
I actually laughed at a couple of the jokes. Jasmine's voice in her intro seemed off to me. I wonder where Razoul was, since wasn't he the captain of the guards? Would have liked to see how Genie would have handled those kids though.
I liked Jasmine's story better, although it did feel like 2 short storys combined into one.
One thing I noticed (it could have just been my t.v) but it seemed like the sound on the storys was more quiet than Belle's Music Video. Curious to see if they put Belle's story with Mulan's and Cinderella's since it looks like they have the animation in progress or finished.
I would like to see Ariel's story also take place pre-Melody. Perhaps a tale of her learning about the human world some more? Maybe, just maybe they could use these stories to actually give the Princes some names

I just wanna get this off my chest. I think the princesses should have kids. Ariel had Melody and Ariel stuff still sells. If their are worried about princesses being viewed as sluts its too late there are exrotic drawings of them floating around the net. Just cause kids means they did it doesn't bother me cause that's what married people are supposed to do. I view them as having done it already cause they are married now anyway. I wish the people in charge would stop leaving in a dream world.

To date Ariel is the only princess to have a child. I do not remember how well this sequel did money wise, but critics were lukewarm to it.
For older, child-rearing princesses to exist, the audience (and the shows writers and producers) must now deal with an __older__ princess, who, if she is to make any sense, must have more of an adult quality and loose many of the "girlish" qualities Audiences enjoy. One way they could work around it is to transfer some of the former young princesses' youthful qualities into the offspring, so now we have a split personality between the older princess and her child.
Will this work? Inquiring mind would like to know!

OK - I saw the Aurora segment of this DVD last night, I didn't watch the Jasmine one because, to be honest, while I love the movie of Aladdin - it isn't a favourite and I'm not dying to find out what happened to characters after the movie (Never showed too much interest in the TV series either. Sleeping Beauty, on the other hand, is a definite favourite. Most of you will know who my favourite disney characters are too: Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, so I had to watch this DVD just to see them.
Unfortunately, I must admit I was disappointed. I never expected it to be any better than any other Princess sequel stories, but all the feeling of the original film was lost. I must admit that although the animation was cheapened, it did remain in the same angular style of the 1959 movie.
My main complaints can be listed as follows:
*Aurora's personality - I don't care what anyone says, there was character development in the original, and Aurora was a refined, elegant young woman. She spoke to the fairies in the cottage scenes with such love and affection, whereas in this movie it's obvious she just wants them out of her way, she no longer seemed like their "little Briar Rose", which is fine now that she lives in the palace, but there was just something missing from their relationship.
We learn that Aurora is a hopeless romantic in the woodland scenes, as she tells the animals of her dream Prince and dances with them through the trees. Even the way she speaks (and by that I mean what she says, not what she sounds like) is too different. She now seems to be a little too immature like a modern teen trying to do the right thing.
Another set of scenes which develop her personality are the scenes in which she arrives at the palace on her 16th birthday. She is led through the woods, head bowed in subdued silence, before silently shedding tears at the thought of never seeing the young man she met in the forest. The Princess who is so well composed cannot be the same as the princess who began to panic over green pigs and giant chickens.
*Aurora's voice - Although her new voice actress certainly doesn't possess Mary Costa's melodic tone, it wasn't really Aurora's speaking voice that bothered me. It was her singing voice. I always thought Aurora had such a beautiful soprano voice, hers was my favourite singing voice of all princesses. The classical soprano that once filled woodlands seems to have been replaced by a pop song that's a rip-off of Britannia. The style of music bugged me a lot - The style of animation was so important in the original that it was kept for this movie, why shouldn't the distinctive style of music have been kept too.
I'll probably get back with some more points later.

Let's just say there's a reason it comes in a shiny metallic gold slipcover. That way at least one thing about it shines!

Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams is far from crap!! It's acatually very enjoyable. I'm working on a long review of the DVD, but i'll post some thoughts now:Julian Carter wrote:[dream state]So guys ... how crap is Disney Princess Enchanted Tales?[/dream state]
Disney actually attempted to do something worthwhile, instead of creating things like "Princess Stories" and "Christmas of Enchantment". They actually tried to do something, instead of just creating crap. I don't understand why people were expecting better animation. Did anyone honestly think that the animation would be cinema worthy, or anywhere near the great animation that Cinderella III had? I know I didn’t. This was exactly what I expected....budgeted animation superior to Cinderella/Hunchback 2, with songs written for little children. I've been reading allot of reviews, including the one on this site, where people complain about off-model characters and bad animation. What did you honestly expect? Really it makes no sense to me why people think it should have been better. Princess fans are lucky they got this effort at all.
To call it crap Julian Carter is bold. It is not crap. Disney actually put effort into something instead of stringing consumers along. The age group the film is marketed to loves the film. All my little cousins have watched the film numerous times. They know all the words to all the songs, and like seeing the characters again, instead of just seeing them in sing-a-long clips. For you it may not be that enchanting. Perhaps you don't like Aurora and Jasmine, or have another Prejudice to the film…But don't call it crap…look at the facts, watch it for yourself. You may not like it at all, you’re entitled to your opinion, but Crap is a strong word.
Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams pays respect to the original films with its backgrounds and animation. Where the film falls short is the music. The film has a beautiful score, but nothing like the original films. And I really have an issue with Aurora's singing voice, especially since Disney has about 5 women on their payroll that provided a Mary Costa type voice for Aurora, during the past several years.
Acatually the whole film shines (read my rant above). The slipcover just adds to the film's charm!!!ichabod wrote:Let's just say there's a reason it comes in a shint metallic gold slipcover. That way at least one thing about it shines!

This is way better then the other Princess DVDs and the songs arn't childish, they're great.
about the animation-what did you expect? it's not the original films,it's DTD DVD,not a cinema film, and if you want to talk about off-model animation-check out Disney Princess:Christmas of Enchantedment and them come back here (have you the Beauty Of The Season new animation?).

Candydog, good review, and I really agree with what you said about Aurora's for more mature personality. I also think Aurora would be more responsible in her short with the way she handled royal responsibility in her original feature (leave your old life, become a princess, leave your man, marry another one to join kingdoms!). And yes, if they kept the animation the same, why not the music? Animation and music are what Disney films are best known for and considered the best!
Julian, funny joke, I can laugh at an insult to something even if I like what's being made fun of.
Disney Villain, I agree, who was expecting msuch better animation? Kurtadisneyite has been telling us over and over how hard it is to draw the Disney Princesses. They are human characters, the hardest to animate. Ultimate Disney's review should have noted that it was a huge improvement over what past Princess DVDs offered, and that for what was expected, for what type of project this was, it met or even exceeded expectations in the animation and background departments (character personality and voices were not met with Aurora, that was unacceptable). The review should have at least acknowledged the effort that was clearly here, even if the effort did not extend as far as we wanted.

Like I said earlier, if you expect a deep and beautiful continuation of the films they were based on then yeah of course you will be disappointed.
Enchanted Tales reminds me of those short stories featuring the Disney characters which featured a lesson at the end of it.
It ain't the best but it certainly isn't the worst either.

Hope you're not too mad at me. Remember the time when I was criticising "Enchanted Tales" for some other reason? (don't remember what) And you nearly blew your top

Well ... I don't know if you can really call it a joke. If yes, then it's certainly one of the least inspired I've ever written at UD. But thanks for the compliment anyway.I wrote:[dream state]So guys ... how crap is Disney Princess Enchanted Tales?[/dream state]
