I love The Black Cauldron. Do you have a home theater sound system?
I enjoy reading your posts all through the Disney On-Line Community (Jim Hill, etc.)
And I especially appreciate your links in threads to outside information. You're a one-person daily info-bomb!
Keep it up!
<3 Thank you! And nope, I don't have a home theater system. Why, does it sound extra-awesome with one? Probably...

One of the major selling points of The Black Cauldron and Super Technirama-70 was the six-track dolby sound mix. Front-stage stereo effects are extremely aggressive, almost Fantasia-esque, as the sound follows characters around the front speakers. For the Horned King, his voice takes on an omnipresent quality, as his voice rumbles from all the front and rear channels. His first scene is a doozy, as he talks to his collection of rotting corpses and his voice fills the room.

Yeah, The Black Cauldron in 5.1 is a whole lot of fun. If you haven't seen it in 5.1, you really haven't seen it. Swooping Gwythaints and Bernstein's tub-rattling score, aggresive stereo panning, aggressive rear channel use. You owe it to yourself to bring the disc over to a friend's house if they have a proper HT.

Isn't Musicana the world-music package feature that was being developed in the early 80s? :o I think that it will probably be available both online (via BD-Live) and on Blu-Ray (and maybe DVD). Is that how BD-Live works? I'm such a n00b...

^That's not necessarily how it works, unless the BD-Live version gets some sort of edge, it's rare to see something that's also on the disc.

Usually BD-Live features are not available on the disc. Usually BD-Live includes new trailers, scheduled chats with a member of the cast/crew and general bonus features that they couldn't fit on or didn't put on the disc.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :pink:

And so I shouldn't feel bad if it is BD-Live only, since not everyone with a Blu-ray player can utilize that, right???

Maybe I'm missing something, but why is everyone assuming this will be available via BD-Live only? The BBFC classification makes no mention of that, and the only thing we've heard about BD-Live in regards to these releases is how it'll be used to store archival material from the Anthology DVD set. There was never anything on Musicana on that set, so I'm just about positive that it'll be appear on the actual disc supplements. Now whether that will be shared between DVD and BD is another story...

I think when this eventually does come out it's gonna be like poof there it is and then poof it's back in the vault. I think they know only true fans of Disney will buy this and they never planned on promoting it very much.

The BBFC classification mention the Online runtime for this feature. That's why we're assuming BD-Live's involvement(even if it's not exclusive).

The Black Cauldron soundtrack is a more overt use of directional sound. The Lion King can certainly shake the walls, but The Black Cauldron is more eccentric and in your face along these lines.

I've been thinking a lot about Fantasia lately, so I pulled out my Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 VHS tapes to watch them over the last few nights. I don't even own the DVD's, but I am really excited for the Blu-ray release! The visuals are stunning even on VHS tape, Blu-ray has got to be mind-blowing!!

Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 are now listed on amazon.de and available for pre-order. They'll be released on November 4th here, also they'll contain only one blu-ray disc each. Let's hope they don't cancel the third disc on the US-release, too.

Also, the site "Planeta Disney" has confirmed that the films will be released on the 3rd of November 2010 in Spain.

The amazon.de listing says that Fantasia's running time is 114 minutes and the 60th anniversary edition was 125 minutes.

It lists Fantasia 2000 as 71 minutes and the regular dvd has a running time of 74 minutes.

No - it could be minus the Intermission, if they decided not to include that in the total with it being a title card.
