Also ... I feel sorry for Tiana not being included  (does she have her own area or something???)
Don't worry, I think she will. Oh, yeah! I didn't recognize that Tiana was missing! :o :o :o I think she will be in it, I can't imagine DL not having her in a all-Princess thing.
It's because Tiana is an American Princess, while Fantasyland is entirely based on European stories with the sole exception of Dumbo. She'll probably get a place in New Orleans Square.

The Art of Brave Panel
http://pixartimes.com/2011/08/22/d23-ex ... -of-brave/
The session kicked off with images of the Brave (then known as The Bear and the Bow) team’s 2006 research trip to Scotland. At this early stage of development Brenda Chapman was the director on the project and is seen in the photos. Lots of Pilcher’s gorgeous black and white concept sketchers were shown in addition to color and texture studies. Seeing the transition from reference photo to artist interpretation was quite fascinating and truly offered a glimpse into just how the visual look of a Pixar film comes to life! Take for example the Witch’s cottage. An initial design was, of course, beautiful but a little more generic – this could be a house seen in any fairytale story. But after the research trip the design dramatically changed. Seeing the old Scottish blackhouses that used to be common in the highlands during the time period of the film inspired a re-design of the cottage that is more fitting to the culture.

Here are a few highlights from the presentation:

--Celtic and Pictish design elements are used throughout the film, from Merida’s bow to natural elements like snowflakes and moss.

--Initial drafts of the film had 80% of the scenes taking place in the snow. In the final film very few snow scenes remain.

--The team made sure nothing in a scene upstaged the red of Merida’s hair.

--A large part of the visual dynamic will be the contrast of smooth curves and jagged edges.

--All objects in the Witch’s cottage are tiny portraits of the Witch – echoing her shape and design.

--The three challenges of this film were Merida’s hair, the landscape details (moss, lichen, textures, etc.) and snow.

--Once again, artist Carter Goodrich did some initial character studies for the film. He has previously worked on Ratatouille and Finding Nemo.

--Pilcher said Mordu the demon bear is like “Moby Dick on land.”

--Queen Elinor’s costumes were inspired by the works of Gustav Klimt and John Singer Sargent.

That's a neat trick.

I'm glad he sounds so intimidating, because it'll emphasize how brave Merida is.

I think it's gorgeous! :)
I wonder why they rounded out her face to look more Mary Blair-esque? I think she looked great in the original design, more Glene Keane-esque, and as previously mentioned, very similar to Tarzan’s mom.

What original design are you talking about? The first image you quoted is fan-made: http://andells.tumblr.com/post/70044571 ... ish-when-i

I always find it sad when fan-made artwork is actually better than the official artwork released.

OH WOW!!!

Thanks for posting those links. I can't wait to get home and check them out on my computer! (I'm on my phone right now, not a big enough screen)

And I'm not sure if the info from the second link is spoiler related or not, but it's neat what they pointed out!

I can zero doubt as to why the changed the movie and removed most of the snow. Snow Queen. I'm sure Disney pressured them, and I'm sure Pixar, once they heard it was back in production, didn't want confusion, so they removed it. Either way, I consider this good news.

I actually think it was because they wanted to use a more rich color palette and not make the film visually monotonous with snow all the time.

As for the stuff, thank you for the pics and the videos! :) It looks gorgeous!

And it turns out Merida may be the first Disney Princess without a prince! :o :o :o

From http://www.mouseinfo.com/content.php?r= ... -Expo-2011:
Noticeably missing from Pixar's fairy tale? A princely love interest!
It'll be really interesting!

Wouldn't it be cool if she was the first lesbian princess? :P I know that being a tomboy and not having a love interest doesn't make you gay but it may be as good as we get with Disney or Pixar films.

The administrator there just made the page inaccessible to unregistered users. I checked their YouTube page, but they've made the videos private and can't be viewed. Perhaps you could consider registering, it's free afterall, or wait until someone posts the artwork and the videos elsewhere.

Really? That's odd. Perhaps the administrator had to remove the content due to copyright claims by Disney. While the attendees at the panel were allowed to bring their cameras in, the speakers requested of them to refrain from posting the artwork online.
