Sequel of Disney I had only listened to the first version and not the reprise. Listening to the reprise, I do get the Ursula vibe.

With respect to the first version, I think it's the way she annunciates everything . . . could just be my own personal filter though![/b]

I love the reprises for "When Will My Life Begin"! The orchestrations are gorgeous. "Mother Knows Best" reminds me of "Falling in Love with Love" from Rogers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella". Some of the songs actually give me a "Quest for Camelot" vibe (especially "I've Got a Dream"), which isn't a bad thing given that was the movie's best asset. I even think Zachary Levi sounds like Garrett. It seems like there'll be a short reprise of the Healing Incantation too in "The Tear Heals", as Mandy Moore is listed as the artist.

Haha, I thought that was Brad Garrett! I guess I was wrong, then! But anyway, after hearing the song clips, I feel much better about the film. I knew that the songs would be essential to telling the story, and now I'm definitely happy that the songs aren't terrible. I'm not that big a fan of Slater but I had total confidence in Menken. I'm glad that not all is lost. I probably won't be able to see this in theater, but I'll definitely check out the soundtrack when it comes available.

I adore Pascal anchoring himself to Rapunzel's hair with his tail like a seahorse. ^_^

Thank you, but has anyone else noticed that either Mandy Moore or Donna Murphy are noted as the main singers in all the songs with lyrics (not including bonus?) Shouldn't Amazon mention most if the proper singers of the songs? (Zac Levi fans might think he doesn't even sing in this XD.) Anyways, the music is MUCH better than the PatF's music (not surprising.)

Yeah, I was going ask if anybody else was thinking that Donna Murphy was maybe channelling Julie Andrews in her singing.

Some opinions...and a question...

Post by Jackoleen »

Dear Disney Fans,

So, I logged onto www.amazon.com, and I looked for the audio samples...and I felt vastly, and irrevokably cheated! ACK! There was not one sample!

I went to www.youtube.com, and, against my better judgement, I listened to both "Healing Incantation" AND "I See the Light", telling myself that those songs were what I must NOT make the songs from "Golden Opportunities" sound like!

I sort of liked "Healing Incantation", and it sounded pretty, but it sounded frighteningly like something that would be heard in "Golden Opportunities"! NOOO! Oh, well. Nik's first song SOUNDS slightly different, anyway, tune-wise...

Even though the song "I See the Light" nearly brought me to tears (I've had a bad day, though, so my mood is far from being clear of emotion), I do not really like it.

Why? Well, let me just say that I can turn on ANY other animated Disney fairytale, and I can hear a song which discusses the EXACT SAME MESSAGE! Girly says "Like, OMG, I never knew what I was missing!", and hot guy replies, in a totally gender-specified, Disney-imprinting-positive way, "I never knew what I was missing, either, 'TILL I MET HER! Is she even REAL, 'cause she's so perfect that she's practically an angel from Heaven!"

In my personal opinion, a sort of pretty tune, interesting characters, and EVEN a more folksy sound cannot cover up a tired, cliched, worn out rubber band of a Walt Disney storytelling stereotype!

I know, I know. If the GIRL said "I finally know what I want, now that HE'S here," everybody would cry foul, saying, "Disney is being sexist!".

Even if the song wasn't pushing THAT agenda, it'd be cool if it gave me something to really think about. I mean, I want to hear something that I've never heard before.

TIANA gave me something to think about when she said that she was "almost there." I'd never really heard a Disney heroine sing about real-world ambition before. I'll bet that some people thought that Tiana's "I want" song was just going to be a boring, "I want the dream of love!", or the "I want the dream of money!" type of a song, and I'll bet that they were surprised...when they realized that Tiana had a real passion for something...

I'm really afraid that Disney's songs are slipping...from the fairly cool level of the songs from "TPatF". If I'm right...THAT'S just gonna be sad...so I hope that the rest of the songs are totally likeable...

I'd ALSO like to say that I'd LOVE to hear a song that outlines Mother Gothel's dreams, so that I can have a reason to weigh Rapunzel's dreams against Mother Gothel's dreams. I haven't yet heard "Mother Knows Best", and I tend to be judging the movie based upon the trailers, so...we'll see...

I wish that The Disney Company were not so afraid to break stereotypes. Give me something to think about, like a heroine who has a majorly dark side (and/ or real curves), or a dysfunctional main family who has to clean up their act, or actual birth parents who are flawed, or, or a heroine who actually starts out as a villain (Well, technically, some of us know which Disney heroine was like that...), or...a Goth heroine, or...a heroine who has to forgive her actual family for selling her out, or...SOMETHING new to think about...! ARG!

Sorry, but even though The Disney Company has provided us with plenty to analyze throughout the years, you've gotta admit that they are one of the biggest sugar-producers in the world. You know what they say about too much sugar...I sometimes like my sugar sour, baby!

Thank you in advance for your replies.

The songs in "TPatF" were bland, basic and all sounded alike...

The songs from "Tangled" sound great! Fresh but classic, and the snippets on amazon sound like they will be as well.

Also, I know you have your own Disney movie ideas, and all the power to you, but can we please keep this on-topic? "Golden Opportunities" is about Rumpilstiltskon I gathered, which has nothing to do with Rapunzel or Tangled, so I'm not quite sure why you keep bringing it up.

Jackoleen, I like these songs! I like Disney characters and films being like the old ones, but still new!

Who was the heroine that started out as a villain, though?

I agree with some of your opinions, but I hope you at least give the film a chance. To really let these songs resonate, one must see how they are paired with the story and the animation. I think most people are instantly expected to be captivated by the songs themselves, but a song like "Mother Knows Best" for example has loads of potential when handled by the brilliant minds at Disney Animation and matched to its excellent animation. I can already start to visualize some of the fun, little antics that I could see inserted into the film.

I will agree that Tiana was a fresh step in the right direction in terms of making a focused heroine with brains and passion and grit and drive. A real female role model who wasn't bland or naive or foolish, and there's a short list of those Disney Animation can lay claim to (Belle..and..hmmm. drawing a blank. and despite being beautiful. well-read and intelligent, Belle was seen as quirky and odd to townspeople) But let us see how this protagonist turns out before tearing Rapunzel apart. (and we have to remember that in this particular film, the heroine was locked away for an incredibly long time)

But this IS Disney Animation, and like it or not they have a pretty tried and true formula for most of their films (call it a stereotype, but it has worked for how many years? and how many films have emulated it?). Their stories aren't the most complex (by design), but the characters, music, and animation usually transcend that.

I wouldn't mind Disney Animation venturing into more works more like The Emperor's New Groove than fairy tales, but I can certainly see why they go this route too. As long as it's well-made, captivating, and exciting. I thought The Princess and the Frog was. And it sounds like Tangled will be too.
