Tangled (aka Rapunzel) Discussion - Part III
At Wal-Mart, I saw Rapunzel merchandise that say, "Featuring Rapunzel," with some with a sticker that says, "from the movie, 'Tangled,'" Some Rapunzel merchandise say, "Tangled," with a sticker that say, "Featuring Rapunzel," only for the Rapunzel costume probably. Even the hair brush toy with a song, "When Will My Life Begin," says, "Featuring Rapunzel." Just thought I let you know what I saw, but the movie is still called, "Tangled." By the way, sorry to say this, but so much for getting the boys to see the movie. I have a feeling that it is going to attract more girls than boys to see Disney's next animated movie, especially when the merchandise looks like it is for girls only, than boys. I must agree to some Disney fans, where are the merchandises for men, in order to get them to see, "Tangled?" If that is what Disney wanted to do, why not create action figures based on, "Tangled," than girl toys? Just a thought. By the way, if I was a movie producer, I would unleash the movie first, then start the merchandise. For example, in Disney's, "Hercules," he defeated the monster which earned him popularity, and people started doing merchandises based on his heroic deeds. Forgive me that it is fictional, but I was just trying to give out an example of how merchandising works, I think. But anyways, I saw some Rapunzel merchandise that say, "Featuring Rapunzel." I guess Disney wanted to keep the name for the merchandise, besides the movie, which still bears the name in other nations besides the U.S. It would be nice if it does say, "Rapunzel," in English speaking areas in Canada. If that is true, I am definitely getting the DVD from Canada.

Are you talking about Quebec? In France, it will be called Raiponce (the French title for the Rapunzel story), but I bet that the Quebecois version won't be due to closer proximity with the English-speaking world. Some Pixar films, for example, had very different titles in France to what the Quebeckers got, with the Quebecois titles being more literal translations of the English titles; A Bug's Life was called 1001 Pattes in France but Une vie de bestiole.spitweet wrote:Then I have no idea what the French translation of Tangled will me...
in my Sears xmas catalogue, the Rapunzel dolls are being described as ''doll from the movie RAPUNZEL''.
So...maybe it'll be called Embrouillé (the literal French translation of "tangled")?

There are larger versions available; if robster16 (or someone else) can extract them, it would be really nice to have them in hi-res.

There's hardly been pictures of what happens after she leaves the tower. They're probably trying to make Pascal's screentime more special by showing little of it through advertising. He won my heart in the teaser and his screentime was less than 10 seconds.

A new trailer should be coming relatively soon, shouldn't it? We're less than 3 months away from the film.
I heard somewhere that it might be on the new tinkerbell release. So maybe by Sept 21st we'll get a new trailer. Other than that Secretariat opens Oct 8th. I think it would definitely come before that.

The intersting thing is that the first book is illustrated by Claire Keane, Glen Keane's daughter. Remeber a while back when she painted Rapunzel on a bass for an auction or something?

Yeah, it was based on the paintings in the tower, she did all of those as well :]sotiris2006 wrote:The intersting thing is that the first book is illustrated by Claire Keane, Glen Keane's daughter. Remeber a while back when she painted Rapunzel on a bass for an auction or something?

Claire Keane also worked as a visual development artist on Glago's Guest and Enchanted. She's doing her thing over at Disney, which is cool. She has her dad's skills obviously.
You can see some of her illustrations here: http://claireonacloud.com/
She has that same ability to capture movement in a single drawing. Simple, yet effective.

Yes I'm talking about Quebec, and the exact translation is what I'm affraid we'll be getting. ''Emmêlé'' would be more accurate. but I just CAN'T picture a logo with those letters... where would be the ''hair'' reference in the title (like the curvs for ''R'' or ''g'' in the other logos) ?Wonderlicious wrote:Are you talking about Quebec? I wouldn't be surprised if Quebec would get ''Raiponce'' (although here, in Quebec, the story is known as her English name and not Raiponce) and the rest of Canada gets ''Tangled''.
Ok I think this clarify the situation.
Here is the French Canadian trailer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHXjCJyrZHo
So for Quebec it's Raiponce and the rest of Canada gets Tangled.... funny !

I'm very intrigued by her art from her "personal project" called Doralisa. I wonder if this is something she is working on with Disney.PatrickvD wrote:Claire Keane also worked as a visual development artist on Glago's Guest and Enchanted. I guess it would just depend on what's personal. I would consider a story that I developed on my own then brought to disney for further development to be a personal project. I guess my point was that maybe this is something she would want to become a film.
IMO Disney should now focus on creating original stories. I feel that originality is playing a big role in Pixar and Dreamworks's success.

I'm watching Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam on the Disney Channel, and a new add just played.
It was one of those "intro to some of the character" kinda things, it was mostly animation from the trailer we already have. There was a quick scene where flynn swings around a tree on a rope or vine and knocks a knight off his horse that I didn't recognize though.
Maybe it'll play again while the movie is still going.
