it hasn't been cancelled, and here's how i know.
a couple years ago they released a special edition of dumbo, and it had on it a preview of dumbo II
and then when dII was cancelled the next year, they had to re-release a new version of dumbo without the preview for legal reasons

since the little mermaid PE not only contains but is advertised as having a preview of the little mermaid 3
they would need to do the same thing
which would be such an expense and throw away all the success that TLM PE has had
so, that, if no other reason, is why it's definately still on. when we recieve a cheesey "Under the Sea" reissue of TLM or some such thing, then we'll know it's cancelled.

Plus, did we already hear earlier that The Little Mermaid III would be the last of the direct to video (DVD) Disney sequels? So, I doubt they would say that, and then turn around and cancel it.

It seems that there will be no trailer for this movie on The Jungle Book DVD as previously reported.

Disney had better be making this film darn good to make it worth our wait!

What do you mean?

Surely you don't think they would delete the whole thing? Not after Jodi Benson saying they "had just done a Mermaid III album, and a Mermaid III movie . . .", implying that they had compleated it. Well, at least voice work.

Remember Disney Duster said they had done a test screening and the audience loved it so much, they went back to add in more scenes to make it longer?

Having said that, Disney has shelved a movie before, when it was heavily into production; Peter Pan II, with Katheryn Beaumont reprising the role of Wendy. They scrapped the idea, and changed the whole movie, after she had finished all her dialogue and there had been rough animation compleated.

DISNEY CANT DO THIS TO ALL THEIR LITTLE MERMAID FANS WHO HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOVIE FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE YEARS !

I got the info from the interview that Animated Views did with Mrs. Beaumont.

AV: Were you contacted about reprising your role as Wendy for the Peter Pan sequel, Return to Never-Land?

KB: Oh yeah, we did the whole film – we recorded it. But they made different decisions after the film was completely recorded. They had - I don’t know what problems. But you know how sometimes when films are made, they look at the way it is at that time and decide they want to make changes, or they’re not sure if certain things are going to work, and they completely redo. That’s what happened with this film. They just dropped everything, including most of the voices. I think they changed most of the voices, including mine. So that was the way it went.

There is also this as well:

As the voice of Wendy in Walt Disney's Peter Pan, Kathryn Beaumont likewise recorded all of Wendy's dialogue for Return to Never Land. However, for unknown reasons, the role of Wendy in Never Land was later recast with Kathie Soucie.

I always thought that was really interesting. . .

It is intersting, sounds like Wendy was suposed to be a child again in Peter Pan II.

Really? I didnt think so; I just presumed that she would be doing the voice work for Wendy as a mother.

I still cant understand why they took her off the film. It makes perfect sense to have her in it!

Well, becouse as a child is different then as a grown up,so they changed the voice and that why i think she's was a child in that deleted version.
