Funny that this thread was brought up...
On Animated View's review of the Up Blu-Ray, they mentioned how Up might be the "last" of the "experimental" Pixar films since next year we are getting the extremely safe Toy Story 3. I kind of disagree with that sentiment.
While I agree that Toy Story 3 is safe due to its immense popularity and legacy it also continues Pixar's recent trend of experimenting with story and character development. This is more than just another fun adventure for the toys. This will have a huge emotional impact on audiences since it deals with one of the most painful subjects of human growth: leaving behind the past.
The teaser starts with footage of Andy playing with his toys. You see that he truly loves his toys as his best friends. But the footage ends with Woody looking at adult Andy as he talks to his mother about giving them away. That right there shows that they are playing with the audiences' emotions and experimenting with the characters.
And even if they try to inject humor so it isn't always depressing the story will likely be heavier than in the other movies. The way I see it, it will be like Up: it will have moments of humor and moments of action, but its emotional content will always have a presence, and be the main focus of the story.
You guys have to admit, this is pretty ballsy of Pixar. I mean, will we ever see a Shrek movie that contemplates at divorce? Will we ever see a classic Disney film with an untraditional sad ending?
Toy Story 3 is safe in that it stars familiar and beloved characters, but the story is unlike anything else done with the franchise, thus making it a movie that is just as experimental as past Pixar efforts.
I personally can't wait.

Here, here, Pap! Excellent!
And of course, it still wouldn't be the last "experimental" Pixar film anyway. I for one am looking forward to "The Bear and the Bow."
But yeah, I certainly hope that the Spanish Buzz reset is only for comic relief. A full reset would simply tear me apart!

The only safe thing which will happen for Toy Story 3 is that they will for sure make money at the Box Office.
Now back to the movie itself, of course this is a risk! At first I thought it was not, but I thought really hard until my brain hurt. First, they are putting Lee Unkrich, a guy who has never directed (only co-directed) into the seat as director. Secondly, this is a second sequel which must live up to TWO very, very good films.

Hey guys, I don't know if it's been mentioned before on here, and to be fair I saw this on Wiki, so it may not be true. But I've heard that someon from Pixar has confirmed that Bo Peep is returning, after all, meaning she can't have been destroyed in the years between 2 and 3!
(I don't recall who supposedly said this, but I think it was someone important.)

Yes, it was Lee Unkrich! Thanks for reminding me! I just knew that it was someone important, but not Lasseter or Docter or Stanton. I was 100% positive it wasn't any of them, but I knew it was someone major!

I just read that they will be showing a new clip from Toy Story 3 during the ABC Family airing of The Incredibles on Sunday.

I already own The Incredibles and I don't have ABC Family, so I can wait for it to eventually be uploaded on YouTube.
