This makes me love the Platinum DVD Cover art

EDIT

Triton looks like as small as he is in this picture

EDIT AGAIN

It's sad when Floatsam and Jetsom get better represented on the cover over Triton

She does look like Homer. Ariel looks... okay. Everything else is horrendous.

Count me as one of the ones who think it looks near perfect!

And they even got Ursula's earrings and makeup right now!

See, that's just so ridiculous that it's come to the point where a successful cover is when the character is sort of okay - not on model, but okay. That's sad.
What is the point of being on-model off-model anyway?

Within the movie itself, she is on-model and off-model much worse than this cover (which I think looks fantastic!).

I would really beg to differ there. Sure, there is a noticeable difference in the quality of Glen Keane's animation of her and other animation, but she is pretty consistently on model for the whole film. Granted, the drawing of her here really isn't that awful - but it's certainly not as good a drawing as it could be. Compare this to any of Glen's drawings and it's an embarrassment. What I really don't like is that overly-rendered, clip artish style of painting they always use. Why don't they just keep it simple - like the art from the film itself?

I think it's meant to symbolize the " Under the Sea " scene a little, hence Seb's looking like he's singing and dancing.

Honestly, I really like cover. I liked that they changed the background coloring somewhat--the whole thing reminds you of the "Under the Sea" scene. I only wish they'd have done better with Ursula's hands, but it's hard to judge for sure. Besides that, I'm really glad with what they gave us. Even the side-title doesn't bother me... :o

While I wouldn't say this is a masterpiece by any means, it's nowhere near as awful as the B&tB Diamond cover.

I hate the Diamond Edition borders though; the glittery crap at the top is awful no matter what the picture is. I'm guessing the Steelbook will look like the gold version? It reminds me of the steelbook of B&tB (with the pink outside and just a circle showing Belle and Beast dancing) & SB? I hope not, because I'd like a nicer steelbook for TLM.

Oh, I didn't say it was AS bad as Beauty and the Beast's cover. I just said I think it's the worst since that one. (For a non-2 movie collection release, anyway.)

I really thought were going to get this as the 3-Disc art: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2 ... ermaid.jpg

-If they had, I wouldn't be complaining about the two-disc version's tacky art.

Please, please, please let there be a 3D home release!!! I really hope Disney doesn't start dividing up the 3D blu and the regular blu like they're doing with Oz.

None of the North American Blu-ray releases have used recycled art. This should not be any different.

Apparently the 3D combo is happening. And it also includes a music download. Hopefully the DC will be in HD.
From Penny Costly @DMR:
When The Little Mermaid is released this fall it will include a 3D set with 3D BD/BD/DVD+DCopy+Music Download.

I just got this response from Penny Costly like 20 minutes ago.
The Little Mermaid 3D will not be showing in theaters this fall but it will be available for inhome purchase in the 3D format. ~Penny

I don't like the structure of Ariel's hair in that cover. It looks like the "Tim Burton version" of Ariel, or one of those non-Disney fan versions of the character.

Well... aside from the VERY odd perspective issues with this cover.... and the weird, off-model looking face...
Whats with her tail? the find start way too high in the tail....
AND THE VOLUME OF THE TAIL ITSELF!!! It looks like its some mucus spreading on a surface... there is no volume for her hips!

Ugh...

I think the idea for this cover is good... just poorly laid out and executed...

Well that clears that up. I do hope that maybe Disney will release Mermaid in theaters maybe in 2014, but with this news, I doubt it will come to theaters at all. Oh well.
