Um, not to interrupt your discussion or anything, but this isn't really about Tangled.. Again, sorry to interruptSemaj wrote:I can assure you that no psychology classes were involved in my more cerebral-than-usual reception towards a classic Disney feature.Disney Duster wrote:Finally, I just want to know what you meant by "The Fairy Godmother's appearance was a convenient response to the weakest part of her psyche." I just want more elaboration, especially if you went to psyche class and used that in your assesment.
The Fairy Godmother is more of a deus ex machina. The first we ever hear of her is the exact moment that Cinderella loses her cool. To the film's credit, they were doing what was based from the original story, and it does help that by leaving her with both slippers, her presence was still there long after she left.
Also, when I said the Prince (Prince Nameless) was programmed to love Cinderella, I was referring to the "love at first sight" aspect. Other than his being at the ball in accordance to father's wishes, this probably ties into the complication behind the fact that Cinderella's glass slipper seemed to fit only ONE person in the entire kingdom, which the Duke pointed out earlier. I just feel that since they weren't following any particular tradition where so-and-so had to marry by a certain age, the ball should've been more about what the Prince wanted.
This is where I feel that the more recent princess features have improved upon their predecessors, where both the prince AND the princess need an ounce of personality and background in order for their inevitable romance to feel more genuine. Aladdin is a good example; maybe they played up the "love at first sight" bit when Al first saw Jasmine at the marketplace. But that could've been a passing crush if he didn't have to save her life in the next few minutes. In any case, both sides would have to do their own homework, instead of allowing everything to be spoonfed to them, in order to earn their romance.

Well, it does fit in the story ofcourse, but i'd like her to have midlenght hair as well. I just think short hair isn't princessy enough-not that i don't like short hair, but i just don't like it on disney princesses. I didn't like the movie Sinbad because the female lead had short hair... it just did not seem right.
They should have made it so that her hair just turns brown and grows at a regular rate. No more magic hair. I would have preferred that. She still could have show Flynn a thin lock of waist length hair that is brown but normally hidden under the rest of her locks. They made it so Rapunzel can never be a normal girl with normal hair.

Or he could have cut it just a bit lower down if it must not grow back. Should would have still looked like a princess if her hair was just somewhat longer.
Because, I agree with you. Short hair is not princessy enough. I'm sure some people out there complain that there are not enough short haired princesses, but the majority see princesses as having longer hair. At least as long as Cinderella's. Not super short and "sporty" like Rapunzel's cut is.

Just listened to the tracks. And I have to say I really like what I hear so far. The songs in PATF were entertaining but these are definitely a step up. And they seem to treat it like a Broadway Cast Recording. (i.e. hearing Rapunzel protesting towards Mother Gothel during the Mother Knows Best song)
Also, I like the "realization" music where the music begins to swell. Can't wait to hear the rest of it.

Fairytales and Marisol do you think you two could possibly just message each other about these spoilers you keep posting, we are in the middle of the post and these giant patches of white keep popping up and I don't want to accidentally read something that I don't want to know
And can we also please keep the topic on Tangled! no more Cinderella debates

Re: Just a thought
Semaj, oh, so by "weakest part of her psyche" you meant when she is at her weakest moment? I see. Well, as for the deus ex machina thing, the Fairy Godmother also said Cinderella still had some faith, and that's what called her to her. She's like Cinderella's faith rewarded or even her faith incarnate. Cinderella's faith kind of built up toward that goal, in a way.
Also, Walt Disney often liked things to be simple and say they were great enough by themselves, that you don't need anything else. And that goes for the lovely idea of love at first sight. But I admit, it may not necessarily make for the most satisfying movie, even though Walt may have thought it should be.
And the Prince actually is called Prince Charming. Yes. That's his real name. Notes and things from the production reveal that that's his name, it's just never said in the movie.

During the 'When will my life begin' reprise 2 Rapunzel sings something like:
Look at it, all so big, do I even dare
Look at me, there at last, I just have to do it
Should i.. no. here I go
And then you hear this uptempo cheery music.. i think that's when she jumps from the tower(after Flynn says:Coming Blondie?) and you see her hair flow in the wind.

Sorry. Although that is why they are in white. So someone doesn't accidentally read them. And I didn't intend for it to be a private conversation. I thought others might join in or want to read as well. I think there are a lot of people who already know this particular spoiler.skyler888 wrote:Fairytales and Marisol do you think you two could possibly just message each other about these spoilers you keep posting, we are in the middle of the post and these giant patches of white keep popping up and I don't want to accidentally read something that I don't want to know

When the movie is out, how long before people can discuss things freely? I'm just curious because I know some people won't get to see Tangled right away. So what is the proper etiquette here?
Samples? Be still, my heart!
I really like "When Will My Life Begin" completed with its instrumentals; the titular line sounds off acappella, since it skips a beat.
"I've Got a Dream" really, really reminds me of "Professional Pirate" from Muppet Treasure Island. And I dig this line–"Though I do like breaking femurs / you can count me with the dreamers".
I really like the association of the guitar with Rapunzel; on "Waiting for the Lights", the music swells dramatically before cutting away to just a guitar–I can just see Rapunzel just taking it all in before they go into "I See the Light".
"Prologue" is fantastically chilling–I love how the healing incantation is delivered differently by Gothel and Rapunzel, and I've been waiting to hear her sing it.

I think the crew changed it to France because in a featurette posted in July or so, they mention a building or location being the nicest in France or something. But I'm not sure that's not enough proof.Marisol wrote:Does anyone know where the movie takes place? I know the "Rapunzel" story was popularized by German authors, so I would expect it to be somewhere near what is now Germany. But are there any other clues?
Marisol I would say a week after the movie comes out we could all start talking in depth about the movie, though we do have a lot of members who aren't from North America, and they movie for be coming out for them for a while
and again a little spoiler here and there is fine, but when your whole convo with someone is spoilers it's probably better to just have a private convo.

It comes out on December 1st here in Holland and i'm gonna see it on December third... i think i'm gonna avoid this topic that last week then. though that will be very hard for me... it's even hard for me to sleep now, because when it's dark and silent late at night i always overthink my day and all i can think right now is 'TANGLED TANGLED OMGOSH TANGLED.'skyler888 wrote:Marisol I would say a week after the movie comes out we could all start talking in depth about the movie, though we do have a lot of members who aren't from North America, and they movie for be coming out for them for a while
.
And it's just a movie, that's what i keep telling myself, but all these positive reviews make me so excited!

I got an Ursula and Frollo vibe from Mother Knows Best. I never sensed Mary Poppins, though. I hope this song is great. I've been needing a great villain song for awhile (and no, I don't count Friends on the Other Side; it was an acceptable song, but definitely not the best).RyGuy wrote:Does anyone else get a Mary Poppins vibe from Mother Knows Best, albeit a very evil Mary Poppins?

I knew this music was gonna be good from the moment i heard Healing Incantation
Rapunzel knows best,
Rapunzel's so mature now
Such a clever grown up miss
Rapunzel knows best,
Fine, if you're so sure now
Go ahead and give him this
This is why he's here
Don't let him deceive you
That's what i could make out.. it sounds like a great scene, Rapunzel finally stepping up to her 'mother' now!
She sings "Go ahead and give him this" because Rapunzel left the satchel she was using to blackmail Flynn into letting her come with him in the tower. Gothel finds it and dares Rapunzel to give it back to Flynn, to test his loyalty (main reason Flynn said yes to Rapunzel was so she would give him back his bag, so Gothel thought Flynn would leave her if he got back the satchel. Just felt like pointing this out.
