The Princess and the Frog Discussion - Part III

Like I said my only problesm with the film:

- the ending felt WAY too rushed...like it was just too I dunno it felt clumsy in production.

- the villian and his motives were not introduced properly

- I think it was missing a "signature" number...I personally thought randy newmans singing of The Evening Star was better than Tiana's introduction to it.

- Too ...I dunno it felt like the pacing was off.

I LOVED it, but it just seemed to miss something I need to see it again though ;p

Saw it today and loved it ! Blew my expectations out of the water, I feel like this is one of Disney's strongest efforts yet. You can really tell they put a lot of time and effort into making sure it was right.

I saw it today and I LOVED it. I gotta admit it was slow in the beginning but it did pick up in the middle. I am def buying this when it comes out on blu-ray combo back! Some parts in the film could have been different but I wont get into that.

My dad came along with me to see it. I love him, he is game for anything lol. He said it was good though. It was only my dad and I and a family in the theater and we were on top and they were more closer to the front so it was PERFECT!

I cannot stand that "Almost There" was edit on the soundtrack! The song make more sense in the movie.

Anyone know if TP&tF is still on track for this March on Blu-Ray/DVD? Checked the schedule on this site and seems a bit soon, and March is already stuffed with a lot of confirmed Disney releases as it is. Still would be nice though.

The problem I had was that Disney is allwoing Up to be nominated for Best feature, whereas they're not giving that chance to PatF since they did not put it in that category for consideration. I'm not saying Up does not deserve this nomination, but I think they should have allowed PatF to have the same chance.

I think the problem is, is that Princess and the Frog is the same Disney stuff. Up was an emotional, mature film. The Princess and the Frog just isn't up there. I know it isn't really a reason, but Pixar has been putting out strong releases year by year and they are the ones pushing the envelope. That's just my opinion and I know many here won't agree. But, I do await the day when Disney makes something really great that is worth pushing for for Best Picture.

If Crash and Slumdog Millionaire can win Academy Awards for Best Picture, there is NO reason at all The Princess And The Frog shouldn't get a chance.

And I may be the only one, but I actually felt like (apart from the first act,) UP is in the lower third of the Pixar canon. I found The Princess And The Frog to be a much better film.

It looks better (sure UP was BEAUTIFUL, but it was nothing we haven't seen in every other animated film the past few years,) and the story is better, I feel like the second act of UP suffered too greatly to fully recover (thanks to the annoying dogs.)

Anyway, I'm sure loads of people will disagree with me and that is totally fine, I agree that UP is far better than most of the animated films this year, but it doesn't change my opinion that The Princess And The Frog is better overall and more enjoyable.

As for everyone else attacking my differing opinion on the film, sorry but it's not even in my top 15 disney films but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I just don't place it in my #1 spot like everyone else seems to do with each new Pixar movie or what ever. I try to not let the hype get to me, as I know we are starved for good old fashion traditionally animated fun, but that doesn't mean we should settle for less. Everyone's acting like they've never seen a real Disney movie before and calling this the best one ever. To me, that nuts. It was good but I just don't see the instant classic everyone else is.

Don’t feel like a troll; I actually feel the same way. TP&TF is 15 at best on my list (and that’s being generous). Honestly, I think people have a tendency to be overenthusiastic when a movie first comes out. It’ll probably get more reasonable praise/criticism in a year or so.

Again, it is definitely a good movie—better than a lot of other Disney films there’ve been. But just taking Walt’s films alone into account, this movie would automatically end up pretty low. Not to mention I would still rank several modern features higher as well (TLM, Hercules, Treasure Planet, Mulan, TLK). I think TP&TF is better as a precursor to greater things than on its own. Hopefully this'll build some confidence in Disney films for the public again.

Not really surprising, but always good for a movie to be backed by a Golden Globe nomination!

I was so pleased to see it up for Best Animated Feature, but Randy Newman was completely left out of the best song category. To be honest, "Cinema Italiano" is the only one of the nominated songs that is the least bit memeorable and interesting.

Ya know, I thought they wouldn't nominate an animated feature for Best Picture. This really is the first time this kind of thing might happen since Beauty and the Beast did years ago.

To tell you the truth (no personal attack intended), and I may be the only one in this category, I don't think that Pixar has put out an amazing movie since Finding Nemo (with the exception of Wall-E). I couldn't stand Ratatouille, and Cars was okay. Incredibles was fun and great, but didn't have anything special to it. I think the same goes for Up. Up was beautiful to watch and had a great story, but once Russell comes into the picture (one of the most annoying characters to ever be developed IMO), I find the movie is okay. Actually the only storyline I like in it is Carl's story and his struggle to keep his promise to his wife (it's very touching). It's a great movie, but I think it's overrated. That was my point: I'm pretty sure Up will be nominated for Best Picture from the Oscars (10 nominations), but I think PatF should have had the same chance since I think they're on the same level IMO. Don't want to offend anyone . So sorry in advance!

At the risk of validating the Golden Globes, I don't think any of the songs from "The Princess and the Frog" were particularly noteworthy or memorable, so they were probably right in their assessment.

I just saw the movie and thought it was nearly PERFECT. The animation was just BREATHTAKING...I thought the story moved along perfectly.....the music fit in the movie PERFECTLY...it gave it such a authentic New Orleans feel which was a smart move. Just having the characters belt out show tunes or any other random style of music would have been a mistake. I thought Ray and Louie would be annoying but they WERENT. I loved them and Rays Cajin number was one of my favorite musical sequences. I have to repeat...the Animation...total eye candy!! I could go on and on. Im ready to see it again. Much better movie then I ever dreamed it would be.

I absolutely agree with you about Pixar! I feel like everyone is so hung up on Pixars every film, they don't see any flaws and to me each film since Cars has gotten progressively worse, while the praise has gone up everytime. That's not to say that they are bad films just not as good as Toy Story to The Incredibles. Now this may change when Toy Story 3 comes out, we'll see!

As far as The Princess and the Frog is concerned, I saw it on friday (11th), and am going again today (15th) and once AGAIN this weekend (19th, along with Avatar!). So I'll have done my part to help save traditional animation!!! Needless to say I thought it was a great movie!

She doesn't spoil the film at all. She just says that there's an evening star gala and thanks you for being a good friend.

I don't know if Anika voiced her, but the sound alike is identical to Anika!

EDIT: She actually does spoil the film a bit. When you click the play button, she tells her story about her father and wishing to own a restaurant, and how she and Naveen get it and name it "Tiana's Palace".

Not really surprising, since this is Disney. But if you want to be pure and clean of any spoilers stay away.

Of all the songs in "The Princess and the Frog", I would consider these songs the most nomination-worthy in order...

#1 Evangeline
#2 Dig a Little Deeper
#3 Going Down the Bayou


Just my two cents...given that #1 and #3 are pretty short songs, perhaps that was why they were considered out of the running.
