TBH, I don't really like that early concept art of Scar.

Another original song inspired by The Lion King. I guess an entire album wasn't enough. This one is sung JD McCrary who voices young Simba in the film. It feels more like a deleted song even though it's not.

Glancing at its totals on boxofficemojo, I'm surprised. Don't get me wrong, 1.6 billion is incredibly impressive on its own, but I really thought there was a chance it could come close to 2 billion. *shrug* Still higher than Aladdin and B&tB, either way, as expected.

Elton John on the new TLK:

https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/culture/a ... -interview
The new version of The Lion King was a huge disappointment to me, because I believe they messed the music up. Music was so much a part of the original and the music in the current film didn’t have the same impact. The magic and joy were lost. The soundtrack hasn’t had nearly the same impact in the charts that it had 25 years ago, when it was the bestselling album of the year. The new soundtrack fell out of the charts so quickly, despite the massive box-office success. I wish I’d been invited to the party more, but the creative vision for the film and its music was different this time around and I wasn’t really welcomed or treated with the same level of respect. That makes me extremely sad. I’m so happy that the right spirit for the music lives on with the Lion King stage musical.

Re: The Lion King (Live-Action)
I really appreciate how honest Elton John was about the whole process. I wish we could hear Alan Menken be similarly candid about his experiences on BATB, Aladdin, and now TLM but I doubt he would ever try and burn his bridges with Disney that way.

Elton is right on the money. They did mess up the songs. I'm not surprised he wasn't welcomed since this became the Beyonce and friends show early on. Kudos to him for speaking up. I love that he doesn't care about burning bridges and often calls Disney out on their BS.

Re: The Lion King (Live-Action)
So it isn't just Menken they treat like garbage*. Incredibly disrespectful for them to take a phenomenally successful soundtrack and not allow the original composers/lyricists little to any input on how they’re used in a new context.
* At least the guys Disney saddled Menken with on the live-action Aladdin were respectful to him. I don't think the people involved with B&tB or the upcoming TLM were/are. TLM is Miranda's project as much as TLK was Beyonce's. Well, at least I halfway like Beyonce.

Re: The Lion King (Live-Action)
Not too surprisingly, Disney didn't submit The Lion King for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars.
Looks like Disney will primarily be pushing for Best Visual Effects and repeating The Jungle Book's awards success.

They don't want the film to be labeled as an animated film.
Re: The Lion King (Live-Action)
You know what, I had completely forgotten all about this film ! I had to have a proper think when the Elton John article popped up, and was thinking 'wow, why is he talking about it now, that was ages ago !' When it hasn't even come out on home release yet !
I'm sure he's saying out loud when Alan Menken really feels about stuff ... but like you guys have said, he still wants to be involved and work with Disney so he wouldn't say it in the same way. I don't think Elton has really had much dealings with Disney bar the Lion King has he ? Not that its a small project lol, but I mean not as many projects as Menken etc.

Re: The Lion King (Live-Action)
Just saw the Lion King remake for the first time. It was exactly what I thought it'd be. I was very impressed by the visuals, but my only criticism was that it made no efforts to differentiate from the original.
It's clear with some of the other live action remakes such as Aladdin that efforts have been made to change some story and character elements. Absolutely nothing was changed this time around. They could have introduced some different story aspects perhaps, otherwise it really is simply a shot-for-shot CGI remake update of the original.
Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable film I found. Some of the more serious themes come through better in this form of animation I feel than in 2D animation.

Haha. Perhaps that was badly worded. What I mean to say is being in live action allows for more gritty real-world storytelling. As a way of expanding on some of the story elements of the original. Some scenes like for instance the final fight between Simba and Scar felt edgier to me than in animation.

For Your Consideration webpage and ads. Thankfully, Disney's submitting Elton John's song too. If one of the two has to be nominated, I hope it's Elton's.

Re: The Lion King (Live-Action)
Elton John also has an original song from "Rocketman" in contention, so it will be interesting if he gets nominated for his "Lion King" song or that one.

I can see it nominated and probably win many technical awards and Best Original Song.

I love Elton John, but "Never Too Late"'s not his best. If only one song can get nominated, I hope it's "Spirit."

Re: The Lion King (Live-Action)
This was a terrible movie. Kept watching the emotionless animals do way less cool or dramatic things than the original and hated it.
