My school is doing Beauty and the Beast for our play this year, so I tried out. I also have another audition for a local theater company next week.Goliath wrote:Audition? I didn't know you were into singing/theater. That's so great! I hope you get the part(s)! I'll keep my fingers crossed. Let us know how it turned out.Scarred4life wrote:My school is doing Beauty and the Beast for our play this year, so I tried out. I also have another audition for a local theater company next week.

According to Ice, nope. His belief is that since he "added an extra beat" to the opening bassline, it's not a rip-off. Bullshit on my count, though.Dr Frankenollie wrote:I like that too. Did Vanilla Ice rip off that song's melody for "Ice, Ice, Baby"?Goliath wrote:One of my favorites is 'Under Pressure', with David Bowie.
Got an R.E.M. playlist going on now, just to depress myself. I finished "Driver 8", am playing "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)", and "What's the Frequency, Kenneth" comes on right after. I'm going to miss these guys.
I had always been fairly neutral/indifferent to R.E.M., until I discovered their political activism and their critique of Reagan/Bush-policies in songs like 'Exhuming McCarthy', 'Welcom to the Occupation' and my personal favorite 'Ignoreland'. While I still love hits like 'Losing My Religion' and 'Shiny Happy People', I think those lesser known songs are the true gems.Avaitor wrote:Got an R.E.M. playlist going on now, just to depress myself. These bastards stole their power from the victims of the Us v. Them years,
Wrecking all things virtuous and true
The undermining social democratic downhill slide into abysmal
Lost lamb off the precipice into the trickle down runoff pool
They hypnotised the summer, 1979
Marched into the capital brooding duplicitous, wicked and able, media-ready,
Heartless, and labeled. Super US citizen, super achiever,
Mega ultra power doesn't relax.
Defense, defense, defense, defense. Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland. Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland
Yeah, yeah, yeah
The information nation took their clues from all the sound-bite gluttons
1980, 84, 88, 92 too, too
How to be what you can be, junk, damn junk in your energy
How to walk in dignity with throw up on your shoes
They amplified the autumn, 1979
Calculate the capital, offer the public my skinny ass
TV tells a million lies. The paper's terrified to report
Anything that isn't handed on a presidential spoon,
I'm just profoundly frustrated by all this. So, fuck you, man (fuck 'em)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland
If they wasn't there we would have created them. Maybe, it's true,
But I'm resentful all the same. Someone's got to take the blame
I know that this is vitriol. No solution, spleen venting,
But I feel better having screamed. Don't you?
They desecrate the winter, 1979
Capital collateral. Brooding duplicitous, wicked and able, media-ready,
Heartless, and labeled. Super US citizen, super achiever,
Mega ultra power doesn't relax.
Defense, defense, defense, defense. Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland. Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland. Yeah, yeah, yeah
I did not do the revolution
Thank you

One of Björk's newer tracks. Her voice strains through at least half of the 10 songs from Biophilia but when the music gets really heavy (and this is some of her hardest, most thrashing alt-techno to date in spots) as it does for "Crystalline" and this song, the emotion level of her already incredibly pitched vocals turn the entire thing up to 11. As a matter of fact, those "you didn't know"s at the end of the storms here are some of the most touching moments I've heard her produce in the 12 years that she's been my #1 favorite musician. Matthew Cole wasn't kidding about this one:

I was JUST THINKING about that song last week. For the first time in about a decade. Pretty slim odds if you ask me.JohnnyWeir wrote:Walking in Memphis-Marc Cohn
^This song always make me feel better when I'm down.
I'm alternating between:
Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" (not too crazy about will.i.am's verses but the beat, the chorus, the "do it" / "let's live it up"s, and Fergie's too-short section are incredible!)
and... I just found out who does Diamanda Hagan's original theme song:

Now... HERE's some nu-metal I can get behind!! Why can't all that crap sound like THIS? Actually, it doesn't sound anything like nu-metal; this is Marilyn Manson and Lords of Acid put into a blender- a concoction practically made for me.
