Sleeping Beauty Confirmed for DVD AND BLU-RAY in 2008 !!!
Come on Jack, you know BVHEUK are rubbish. Have you really not learned that yet?
Sleeping Beauty will be out on Blu-ray in Europe around the same time as it is in the US.
As for the new PS3 being region-free, I'm sure they mean for games (which it already is). There is no way Sony would allow a region free Blu-ray player onto the market.

The features sound OK, but all I really want is the film on BD - excellent picture and sound. The other stuff i'd only look at if I were bored and was looking for something to do. What's going to sell this movie to me on BD, is again, picture and sound. I can't wait until it's released.

Thank you so much for posting that sotiris2006. I am even more excited for this release. Although it’s all very unnecessary, you have to admit the technology sounds amazing. I’m very excited for all the new features. Last August I purchased a new laptop from DELL, with a Blu-ray player, for the sole purpose of Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition. I also wanted a way to watch Disney’s other films on Blu-Ray, since my family has not yet adopted a Blu-Ray player. I will most defiantly be purchasing one of those new Blu-Ray players that are set to be released later this summer. The technology sounds very promising, imagine in ten years when our classics will (hopefully) have releases like this.sotiris2006 wrote:Sleeping Beauty Blu-Ray to “revolutionize” the industry:

Sorry if this question was asked already, I just didn't feel up to searching 40 pages. I have a question regarding the trailer for Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition. At the beginning when Maleficent says "Listen, everyone!" Or something along those lines... I know it's not Eleanor Audley's voice... it must have been a cover voice. Does anyone know who it is? My thoughts were Susanne Blakeslee. Anyone know?

It's been mentioned that the other voices came from the "read-along storybook" or something like that, so it could be the voice over from that release, but when I saw the trailer I thought her lines were a little different, so they may have been new ones recorded by Susanne. I just wikipedia-ed her last night!

No,all the voices in the trailer are new voices (Maleficent's and Flora's,Founa's and Merriweather's voice actor voice them in the Disney theme parks,video games,Enchanted Tales and etc.),I think it's because the Blu-Ray version will have the character talking to us,what Disney Villain said,I wonder if Jennifer Hale will voice Aurora (She's Aurora's best new voice actor so far,she and the one that sang Aurora in the Princess Tea Party Album).

I e-mailed Disney yesterday, as I wanted to find info regarding the aspect ratio on the upcoming release, and this is the response I got back...

WTF! SB was animated and projected at 2.20:1 (70mm version) and also projected in some theatres at 2.35:1 (35mm version) and they're giving us this?
They have two versions to use, both of which should be on the release, and they're giving us this false aspect ratio. Hopefully this is incorrect and/or will be corrected. Otherwise I'll wait again another decade for a proper release.

The trailer was saying "more picture than ever before" and I was thinking, more picture than the Special Edition? How is that possible?
But maybe they've re-filmed and included extra backdrop, seeing as how amazingly wide those gorgeous backgrounds were. So hopefully, we're getting more. I don't really mind if it's not OAR, as long as we don't lose picture (which contradicts the advertisement).

Okay, something has been bothering me and I can't do anything about it beacause I've never ordered anything from Amazon so they wont allow me to comment on reviews: Somebody posted a review for the Platinum Edition DVD of Sleeping Beauty titled something like "Disney wont release Pinnochio" or something like that, and have all of their facts wrong! They are going on about how Sleeping Beauty has alredy been released on Platinum Edition before and how Disney is hiding away Pinnochio, which they are not. Somebody who can post reviews there should set them straight!

Where's Escapay when you need him?

Sleeping Beauty was filmed in Technirama, which is special process where the image is filmed horizontally through the camera (like VistaVision), and yielded a 2.25:1 aspect ratio.
35mm prints derived from the Technirama negative (which also is 35mm, but the horizonal one) will have a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, cutting off some image on all sides.
70mm prints of the Technirama negative will have a 2.20:1 aspect ratio, cutting off a vary minor bit of image on the sides, but likely not the top or bottom.
Borrowing a screen cap from deathie mouse...(which I'm sure I used in this thread before but I don't wanna look for it)

Green = 2003 SE DVD - widescreen (2.35:1 of the 2.25:1 frame)
Red = 2003 SE DVD - pan&scan (1.33:1 of the 2.35:1 frame)
Yellow = pre-2003 VHS - pan&scan (1.33:1 of the 2.25:1 frame) - I have yet to figure out which VHS it came from, though I think in another discussion, Disney Duster was able to confirm that it was the 1997 VHS...
2.55:1 has never been, nor should it ever be, the aspect ratio for Sleeping Beauty. If the film is ever presented in 2.55:1, it will be cutting off even more information than the 2.35:1 version.
Don't pay too much attention to Amazon reviews. More than half the time it's just some ignoramus going off on a rant.Mowglie wrote:Okay, something has been bothering me and I can't do anything about it beacause I've never ordered anything from Amazon so they wont allow me to comment on reviews: Somebody posted a review for the Platinum Edition DVD of Sleeping Beauty titled something like "Disney wont release Pinnochio" or something like that, and have all of their facts wrong! So was the intent of the filmakers of SB for it to be in a 2.20:1, 2.25:1 or 2.35:1 ratio? I guess I'm a little confused about that 2.25:1 ratio. I had understood it to be that SB was animated and projected at 2.20:1 and projected in some theatres at 2.35:1.Escapay wrote:steve wrote:2.55:1E?

Also, what's your take on this false ratio of 2.55:1 that Disney says it will be in. Did they mix up Lady & The Tramp's ratio with SB?

^thanks for the great find L&E! I hope there's more features too... and the doco is a good 1h+ (though I doubt it)
There IS more picture, both in width and height. Amazing, even if it's not OAR...
The picture quality looks amazing. Very vibrant, maybe too vibrant, but if I'm in a gloomy mood I can just look at the darker S.E. version.
