JeanGreyForever wrote:I've never liked calling him Charming. Charming, to me, is a fairy tale stock name used for the blank canvases of princes in fairy tales as a descriptive word, but not their actual name. Actually Cinderella's prince was never called Charming in the original move or in the credits. Same with Snow White's prince. They were both always just referred to as "The Prince". I think in the 90s, the Disney Princess merchandise started to label Cinderella's Prince as Charming. Snow White's prince's name is Florian btw in case you didn't know. It was used in the early 2000s for some Disney on Ice merchandise or some Disney pin I think. He's had several names actually. People thought it was Ferdinand but that was untrue. There was also a rumor that some Snow White concept art in the Vault called the prince Frederick but this has never been proved, so Florian becomes the most official name considering Disney has used it at least once (like Grimhilde was used once for the Queen and never really used officially again). Although Disney didn't start the name of Adam for the Beast, it is interesting to note that they have used it in an official capacity several times. There was a wedding doll set in Toysrus with Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Belle with their princes and Belle's prince is called Adam on the front of the box. Also in the Disney resort in New Orleans, each prince has a profile with their name. Snow White's prince is just "The Prince" while Cinderella's Prince is Charming, but Belle's prince is Adam.
I knew that other countries call Snow White's prince Florian, but I don't know why, and he's not called that in America, I don't think. I don't know why Cinderella's prince is Henry either. I don't hate the name Charming used as an actual name. There may be records or archives where Cinderella's prince's name really was Prince Charming. And think about the names Snow White or Cinderella. They are unusual, descriptive names, like "Charming" is. If you still don't like those names, that's fine. Glean Keane, the Beast's animator, joked the Beast was Prince Adam. A Disney trivia game said his name was Adam. So I hope they keep it.
JeanGreyForever wrote:I never knew that Drizella's name came from Drusilla to hearken back to Caligula. It kinda makes me wish they had just called her Drusilla rather than Drizella which always seemed like an ugly name to me, especially with the z, unlike Anastasia.
I don't find it ugly and like Drizella. But I would not mind if it was Drusilla.

Thanks for all the info tsom! Don't know how you found that out...

2015 live-action movie. I don't know how long in the pre-production period her name was Noémie, but there was definitely a point when it was.

Paige O' Hara shares her thoughts on the new adaptation.
But what does Paige O’Hara, AKA the voice of Belle in the animated version of Beauty and the Beast, think about Watson taking over the role? “If I were producing the film, I would have cast her,” O’Hara told BuzzFeed last night at a 25th anniversary screening of the animated classic. “I think she’s absolutely perfect for the role. She’s got the outward beauty, but she’s also got an inward beauty about her, and an old soul. Through mutual people we’ve sent messages, and I just basically was wishing her all the best and to have a wonderful time.”

And what is O’Hara most excited to see in the live-action adaptation? “In [the original] movie it was in the snow scene of ‘Something There’ that we made a specific choice that it hits Belle: She’s really falling in love with [the Beast],” she said. “I want to see Emma’s moment when she realizes she’s fallen in love. That will be so exciting.”

But O’Hara doesn’t think Belle’s love life is the most interesting thing about her. “She was so strong, so independent, and in this day and age she would be for women’s rights — she wasn’t looking for a prince, she fell in love with a man.”

For 25 years, actress and singer Paige O'Hara has been the definitive Belle of Beauty and the Beast, but she's more than happy to make room for Emma Watson to take up the role for the upcoming live-action film.

"I thought it was genius casting!" says O'Hara, who's celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original 1991 animated classic, newly released on Blu-Ray Sept. 20. "I don't think you could pick anyone more right for Belle that's out there that's the right age. She's beautiful, she's got the intelligence, she's extremely smart. I think she's going to be wonderful. I really do!"

O'Hara, who performed opposite actor Robby Benson as the Beast in the original, also gives high marks to the casting of Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens as Belle's shaggy soulmate. "I fell in love with him on Downton Abbey," she says.

As for the film itself, O'Hara says, "Oh, I can't wait – I'm really excited about it," noting that producer Don Hahn, a Disney veteran who produced the original animated film, "tells me wonderful things – and I know what a perfectionist Don is, so I'm sure if he likes it, it's gonna be great ... I hope I'm there opening night!"

The Broadway vet stopped by USA TODAY with her original Beauty co-stars Robby Benson ("Beast") and Richard White ("Gaston"), where she gave her stamp of approval to the Harry Potter breakout.

"I think that if I were producing that movie, Emma Watson would've been my first choice for Belle," O'Hara says, adding, "I was just really happy they went with Emma. She's got the intelligence, she's got the humor. I think she's going to be really, really special."

None of the three voice actors have met their live-action counterparts, although White agrees that it's "going to be wonderful. ... The trailers are gorgeous, it's so beautiful."

O'Hara says that in many ways, "it feels like we're passing on the torch. But there's always going to be room in history for both of these versions."

Next year will bring a new live-action chapter of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson (Harry Potter) in the role of Belle. O’Hara couldn’t be a bigger fan: “She is perfect casting, perfect casting,” O’Hara said. “I think she’s going to be absolutely brilliant. And I think the movie’s going to be brilliant.” O’Hara hopes to attend the film’s premiere where she can meet Watson for a little Belle-on-Belle time.

INSIDER spoke with the original voice actress behind Belle, Paige O'Hara, about the upcoming movie and how it feels to have Emma Watson step into her shoes.

"Perfect casting," O'Hara tells INSIDER. "I've said this a few times now in the last couple days — if I was producing [the movie] I would have cast her as my number one choice, absolutely. I think she’s going to be amazing."

Belle is not your average Disney princess. According to O'Hara, she is one of the only princesses meant to be in her 20s, as opposed to late teens. Plus her brown hair and bookish quality made Belle a departure from her regal blonde predecessors. This ties into Watson's personality well, according to O'Hara.

"[Watson] is very very smart, and she's got a real warmth about her too and a quirky odd sense of humor," O'Hara explains. "I think she's gonna be great."

It may be a tale as old as time and a song as old as rhyme, but the stars of the original Disney animated classic “Beauty and the Beast” think that the casting for the live action remake is totally on point.

“I’ve said this when I first heard it, I would cast [Emma Watson] if I were producing it,” the voice of Belle, Paige O’Hara told us in a satellite interview. Adding, “I really would, I think she’s the perfect casting for Belle.”

Continuing on, O’Hara explains why Watson fits the bill perfectly. “She’s got the humour, she’s got the heart, she’s gorgeous,” she says, adding, “I think she’s perfect, I’m really looking forward to it!”

Has O’Hara reached out to Emma to share her enthusiasm for taking on the role? “No, no, no,” O’Hara tells us. “Don Hahn is working on it, and of course Don was our producer on our ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and I’ve sent a few messages through him, you know, just telling her how excited I am for her,” she explains. “She’s going to get some really serious Belle fans out of this.”
Source: http://etcanada.com/news/168842/paige-o ... s-perfect/
And of course a live action remake means passing on the role of Belle to Emma Watson, who will be portraying the character opposite Dan Stevens' Beast. "We've had 25 years now, and people will continue to watch it because there will be new generations of children, but we are passing the torch now to the live action. [Watson] doesn't need any advice from me. She knows I'm a fan of hers, and I was told she liked my interpretation. I'm just really anxious to see what she does with it."

Luckily, O'Hara has stayed friends with producer Don Hahn, who is also producing 2017's iteration, and has the inside scoop. "From what he's told me it's going to be extraordinary. He's a true perfectionist, so it should be sensational."

Paige O' Hara wrote:It does feel like now we're passing on the torch to the live-action. From what I understand, it's going to be fantastic. I'm hoping that they stick close to they characters, the way that we created them because these characters are so well thought out and the story was so well thought out. But I understand, they are doing that, adding their own great talents to it. I'm sure Emma is going to be an amazing Belle.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw talks about the movie.
Q: You're doing Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast, right?

Gugu Mbatha-Raw: Yes! It's my dream! I grew up with the original animation and knew all the words to all the songs as little kid. My manager will testify when I got this job... I've had some really exciting jobs in the last couple of years but when I got Beauty and the Beast I screamed so loud! It really is special. As I say, the actors on that cast... A lot of it is animated so we didn't get to see a lot of each other but then in the last scene all of us get together. I got to ballroom dance with Ewan McGregor around this Disney ballroom! It's ridiculous!

Q: Tell us about what we can expect from Beauty and the Beast.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw: Well, I hope that it will be magical and romantic and everything you remember from the original and more. It's beautiful. It was a favorite of mine when I was a kid too so I was very happy to be part of it.
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfdAC0LvfxE
Q: Have you had the chance yet to see an edit of the film?

Gugu Mbatha-Raw: I saw a really early edit where not all the special effects were all done. But I have to say I'm so excited about it. And I'm completely biased because I was obsessed with the original animation when I was a kid. I knew all the words. It was like my Frozen really. It's such a beautiful cast. An amazing ensemble of British actors and American actors as well. I'm really excited for everyone to see. I can't wait to see it when it's finished. I think it's going to be magical.

I just saw the teaser trailer. Here's a brief description:

The teaser trailer begins with the a few shots of a trashed bedroom as the score from the original animated film's opening prologue plays in the background. We move in towards a painting of a young prince and his family before it's torn by the Beast. We hear a knock on the door and a female voice calls out "Hello?". We then see the a close up of the famous red rose as Belle enters frame, reaching for it.

The beginning and ending are missing, because the full trailer is 1:27 seconds so we still have 26 more seconds to look forward to. I wonder if the final shot is a very quick brief glimpse at the Beast in the shadows catching Belle trying to touch the rose... We'll find out in a few hours.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the teaser. We've all seen BatB before, so it's not like we were going to be surprised by anything. Emma, for the whole two seconds we saw her, looked lovely. And it's nice to see that the prince was young when cursed and ages as the Beast. The only things I dislike in this teaser are the heavily CGId look to it all and McGregor's voice, which truly sounds horrible (which is what he was worried about). I'm looking forward to the full trailer in the next few months, and then seeing the film in March.

Well, it was much better than Cinderella's teaser. The castle is magnificent. I was really hoping to see Emma completely, but they gave us a good teaser for Emma. She already looks perfect! Cogsworth/Ian's voice is great, but Lumiere/Ewan's rotfl Can't wait for Moana's this week

My issues lie with the whole teaser.

I thought that the music was too high and didn't sound as majestic as it should have.
The castle, was obviously way too CGI, then again, it was filmed in a soundstage and they do have a year to work on the effects.
I absolutely hated the castle though. It looked so small. The roofs weren't high and it lost the grandeur of it. Perhaps the worst being the main entrance and the ballroom.

Compare this:
http://www.caps.media/199/1-beauty-and- ... -2277.jpg
to:
http://s33.postimg.org/eggd01zkf/Screen ... 28_AM.png
Also, with the Ballroom.... I can't believe that they added like 10 more chandliers and how low the ceiling was. That majestic sweep will look really good in the movie.

I also wanted to at least see Emma's full body, not just her face. They showed her at D23 last year, so why not in the teaser?

Again, not saying that the movie is going to be bad. But it reminded me of when a friend would tease me about something and you'd sit there going: Just give me more info to go over, come on. And the friend is like: See you in 3 months!
