Well, you weren't angry when that DVD came in were you?prettyboystyle1 wrote:I just bought Tarzan CE on Ebay for $50 a couple of months back! AND it was a used version! I am ANGRY![]()
The word's not final. Hold on to your CE. Maybe if it does become official (with a press release, and all that), then, if you want, then you can buy the SE for it's better packaging and looks!Should I buy the new SE Tarzan?
Now, I don't remember when it was exactly that we bought Tarzan CE, but I'm keeping that and if I feel like I have extra money to spend, then I'll buy the SE to avoid playing the CE so much. Those of you who recently bought Tarzan CE off ebay, are you guys gonna buy the new SE?

Since the logo is the only thing revealed, I don't really believe this is 100% legit yet. I really, really hope it is, but the logo could have been photoshopped. Don't you think it looks too much like Bambi's:

Plus, isn't the logo revealed later than this normally, like in the press release?
Granted, there still is a considerable difference, and it probably means nothing, but I guess the point of this post is to tell you not to jump to conclusions just yet. When we get word from Disney, which won't be long if this is true, I'll celebrate.

Come on guys, this is definitely official; it's from Buena Vista and everything.
As for the similarities, maybe Disney is just trying to make things a little more uniform?

The Lion King Platinum Edition logo is also in that style...

They definitely are trying to give these titles a more uniform look. The Lion King and Mulan both have similar DVD logos. I guess with Tarzan being named a Special Edition, the Masterpiece Edition line is officially dead, unless Dumbo ends up being a ME. If so, then perhaps the ME line is meant for Walt-era films, except that there aren't that many non-Platinum Walt films (unless you bring the anthologies into this).

Well, I just got back from my week-long vacation last night and got on my computer and read this news. IM SO EXCITED! I knew this would happen and I'm so glad it has an official date I can look forward to. I'm puzzled as to why so many people are suprised that this is being released. With so many other countries getting a re-release it was sooner or later the US would get one, too. I suppose it is because we are getting this info and we have yet to hear anything about Lilo & Stitch. So is a Special Edition of Lilo & Stitch still just a "maybe"? I thought we knew it was delayed and being released this year for sure.
With this release of Tarzan so close to Cinderella, I assume he is her support title. It looks like the end of the year is already full of releases (Toy Story, Cinderella, Tarzan, Toy Story 2) and I doubt we will see Lilo & Stitch before it's over. I predict it will be paired with Lady and the Tramp for next year along with Chicken Little and that we will see Quasimodo with Ariel and Cars in the fall.

Although I understand the logic, I need to point out that the numbers don't necessarily reflect that. DVD has made huge inroads the last few years because players have come down from $300-$400 to as low as $40-$50 now. Sure that has widened the market a bit, but what it has also done is made it very affordable for those early adopters to add a 2nd DVD player in the master bedroom and possibly even a 3rd player in the finished basement.Bill W wrote:Personally, I think this would be a great release. Tarzan has been out of print since January 2002. According to The Digital Bits, 27,171,613 DVD players were sold from the inception of DVD in April 1997 through January 2002. Since that time, 62,948247 DVD players have been sold. Based on these numbers, there are now more than three times as many homes with DVD players than there were when Tarzan was thrown into the vault in January 2002.
I just don't think the numbers merit another release. I'll echo the sentiments of many when I say "Why now, before L&S?" This is marketing money that could have been spent elsewhere promoting titles that have been promised for over two years. Instead we get a regurgitated film which is essentially the same thing we bought five years ago. I just don't get it.

On a different note, for the coverart, I'm personally hoping they do something with this:

Imagine just that image with the special edition logo above it, and then the 2-disc set banner at the very top and that banner that tells you one of the special features (usually a set-top game
) at the bottom.

Sadly, I don't think that they'll make the cover that for the Region 1 release, Pasta; my guess is that it will be like our Region 2 UK cover, which is a shame since it seems poorly composed, but will attract kids unlike the Region 2 French Collector's Edition cover...

I still doubt that they will be able to top the cover art from the Collector's Edition version (oh how I wish that I owned it.) They'll attempt to appeal to kids/famalies with the cover art, but the CE's art was the holy grail of Tarzan art IMHO. I doubt they'll do anything better it. I mean, look:

I agree with what Jake and Joe said about cover; though we normally shouldn't judge or talk about the cover, I have to say that the CE Tarzan was great & simple. I also think that if Disney released the SE, then it'll have color and appeal to the children (I mean, look what they did with Tarzan II! A shiny shiny slipcover with lots of color on the Cover art!!Jake Lipson wrote:I still doubt that they will be able to top the cover art from the Collector's Edition version
Hmm, I think that's one reason why I'd hang on to the CE even if the SE does come out.
