Although this isn't much proof, there's a possibility TLM3 could be about Ariel's, Triton's, and Ursula's past because of this:
http://www.superstaff.com/Philo/PhiloRes.html
It's from an artist who worked on TLM's character designs biography:
http://www.superstaff.com/Philo/Images/ ... esFull.gif
Again, that's not much proof, but it could be a possibility considering the news of another TLM sequel. They are doing a lot of those midquels lately, so maybe they're going to go into the past completely this time?

For both sets of pics, the only really "bad" one is the last.
I'm (obviously) wary of a III, but would really like to see something about Ariel's mother, or about Ariel and Eric's first days a couple.
Or, did they get married right away? Could the movie take place in the middle of that transitional kiss?

This is how I always envisioned a little mermaid prequel:
Ok, let's say that Ariel's mother's name is Andromeda, and let's assume that Ursula was a member of King Triton's court with her eyes secretly set on the throne. (After all, she did mention that she once lived in the palace!)
BTW, why the name Andromeda? Besides the fact that it starts with an "A," it means "to think of a man" from the Greek element andros; "of a man" combined with medesthai "to think, to be mindful of." Andromeda is also a constellation in the northern sky which gets its name from a mythical Greek princess: "The beautiful Andromeda of ancient Greek legend was chained to a sea cliff as a sacrifice to a sea monster, and was rescued by the hero Perseus."
Anyway, to get back to the story. . .
Ursula definitely had something to do with Andromeda's death/disappearance. Andromeda had a fascination for humans, even telling her daughters stories about them. She had been saved by a human when she was just a child, and being an authority figure on the arm of King Triton, she'd want to be a peacemaker with them. Triton would remain suspicious of the fish-eaters though, and would want to enforce strict rules against any human contact.
Ursula could see this as an opportunity to get her out of the way. Being a trusted member of the royal court, she could secretly offer Andromeda help in contacting the humans, both knowing that Triton would never understand any sympathies toward the fish-eaters unless he saw proof of the compassion that Andromeda had once witnessed. Either Ursula takes the opportunity to kill her herself, or she lets the humans take her away.
(Which brings up a scary idea. . . what if Andromeda is still alive in some circus side-show? Disney, please ignore what I've just written. . .)
Once she is gone, Ursula would explain that she wasn't able to save his beloved wife in time from those dangerous barbaric humans. And with her out of the way, Ursula attempts to win over the grieving Triton until she can get him out of the way, and assume the throne for herself.
Imagine the frivolity of Ursula trying to play mother to all those little mergirls while trying to impress Triton! Of course, Ariel is the youngest, which explains why she'd have no memories of this.
But his rejection eventually brings out the evil in her, and Triton discovers that she had something to do with leading his beloved wife to her doom with the humans. Ursula is exiled. All of the kingdon is told to stay away from both Ursula and any humans, as they are not to be trusted.
And you know, Ursula would find it to be poetic justice if Ariel's love for humans proved to be Triton's downfall. . .

Well it reminds me of something I've read in www.littleariel.com/tlm3 !!!Anyway, I think it's the best idea for a TLM sequel I've ever read. And I think that clipart with little Ariel and red-haired Triton IS a proof that it's gonna be a prequel.Sunset Girl wrote:This is how I always envisioned a little mermaid prequel:

I actually think Ursula killed Ariel's mother because she liked Triton herself (mostly for his power/stature). What proof could I possibly have of that? Try looking at this future product:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... 73-7352009
Just a children's book, right? Look at the description of the book, though:
Ursula probably had a thing for Triton when she was in his court, took care of Ariel's mother somehow (most likely involved with humans) after Ariel's birth, and tried to get to Triton (most likely to be his queen...meh...), but was banished once Triton found out the truth of his wife. She grew angry because Triton rejected her and decided to have her revenge by taking everything he ever had and having him trapped in a garden of souls til his unavoidable death.

Most of that's pure nonsense, but the last part is of personal taste, even if it doesn't fit with the rest of her made-up story. The rumor that mean, nasty Ursula turned Ariel into a human just so the sea witch could take over the seven seas? To hear Ursula tell it, she was only trying to help Ariel find her true love (and wanted to impress that hunky King Triton in the process!).

We are all having way too much fun with this, we really are. But a five-year-old would declare that prequel to be the most boring movie he ever saw in his life. First of all, the children who this movie is probably going to be aimed for would ask "what's a court?" If they're a little older and smart, they'd use the word "court" in context of a basketball court or maybe even a judicial (spelling?)court. Also, there's quite a lack of Ariel in that summary which would cause any little girl to immediately not like the movie.
Right now I don't want to even think about what Disney will really do. The only thing I can think of right now is a list of forgettable songs.

Why must we be so pessemistic? And what's wrong with a little fun?chaychay102royal wrote:We are all having way too much fun with this, we really are. While it's true there's a "lack of Ariel" going on in the above suggestion, why wouldn't little girls identify with Andromeda? Right now she's just a concept made of words, but picturing her getting saved as a young mergirl could be visually exciting in many ways, and I'm sure she'd make a proud and beautiful queen that many little girls would look up to. And I think many people would love to see Ariel and her sisters as little ones. . . so much could be done with that alone. I could picture funny and tender moments between her and her daughters, given the bittersweet twist in knowing that they don't have much time together.
My very young nieces understood the concept of a royal court many years ago when we first watched Sailor Moon together. There's more ways to explain what a court is without simply using the word alone or talking down to the audience. And trust me, I work with 5 to 12 year olds for a living and I incorporate a huge variety of films in my lesson plans. I think children understand and accept pathos from a film more than we might expect, and Andromeda's disappearance could be very dramatic, leaving a deep impression on the importance of tolerance with others. She wouldn't have had to sneak around like that if Triton hadn't been such a bigot toward humans in the first place, and I think kids would understand the parallels and broken connections between her and Ariel's future self. I'm certain that a lot of Ariel's inner strength not only comes from her father, but from her mother as well.
But yeah, I think I'm only dreaming here. I doubt Disney would be ready to tackle a story like this (unless they could happily explain Andromeda's absence with the side-show thing and reunite her with Ariel years and years later).
And as for songs, I happened to like "For a Moment," probably because I thought the Melody character was the most successful aspect of TLM II. Of course, I've found that a lot of Disney fans hate her. What do people have against her, anyway?

I think the reason people hate her so much is that she seems to be a rip-off of Ariel. Now, I thought the idea of Melody was very good (some kind of irony in seeing a child do the same the parents did), but she got caught up in Disney's attempt to make EVERYTHING in the movie a rip-off. A rather pathetic sea witch (we can see why Ursula was the cooler sister), Cloak and Dagger mimics of Flotsam and Jetsam, Tip and Dash was yet another try at milking the Timon-and-Pumbaa success from TLK and a very bad one at that, the over-restricting parents, etc.
The sequel could've been better if they didn't try to make everything the same and maybe had a different sort of villain rather than another sea witch. But what can we expect? These sequels are targeted to the children who can't understand how bad the movies are. If only Disney would realize that a sequel/prequel can actually be good and everything doesn't have to be sugar-coated and simplified for the children's sake.

I think you've made some very valid points with most of your views, and you have my respect.
However, I think the reason I loved Melody so much was because the animators managed to capture Ariel's spirit in a believable way. And I'm okay with that. Why? She is her mother's daughter. I mean, that happens so much in real life. I see how much my neices look and act like my brother and I (my dad always said the Elliott gene was strong, LOL). In fact, the only thing that really annoyed me about her was that stupid pony tail, and that's a relatively small squabble.

sadly, but hey, let be on their shoes:
"The children must not see sexual themes anywhere, they´ll have enough time to find out when they get married"
"Real problems on animated stuff? no way, the animation world it´s always magic, let´s prevent of knowing this problems"
"A swedden knife(or those kind of things that have many stuff in it) on a movie? please no! they are not old enough to see this killing weapons!"
"Let´s better see the power rangers, they have no weapons and evil always lose"
-but hey, they have guns and swords and stuff
"but not real ones, like on the animated movies"
"My son/daughter must never know about the real problems of life and stuff, he will know at the right time, and I´ll show him/her how to deal with them:Ignore it and hide it from others"
way to go,mom...
