Yeah, I definitely don't think Meg deserves to be classified as a Princess. For starters, she isn't a princess, and secondly, she does nothing worth while to even be placed in the category. In my personal opinion, I think Meg is incredibly overrated.

I think we should discuss Meg in a different thread. I know that once this forum starts talking about the princesses it can get ugly.

You are probably right, the conversation is getting a little off topic. And as you said, once the topic of Disney princesses is brought up, it can get kinda crazy with all the different opinions floating around.

Back to the topic at hand - when can we expect a re-release of Hunchback and/or Hercules? Apparently, never! Ha. Hopefully someday.

ok, i know it is off topic, but i wanted to clear up what i meant... Meagara was originally a princess in the legend, and i'm surprised Disney didin't use this.

anyway, back on topic.

disney just missed a great chance to re-realease two unforgettable classics that somehow always gets looked over. But we all know how random this company is, so they might release them two years after.

its just sad how Disney would rather release them as "insert stupid name here" editions rather than anniversary editions

Just wanted to know if anyone heard anything new about this lately. I'm sure it probably would of been posted, but it's been a while, and I really want this movie in SE.

Oops. I didn't realize this thread also included Hercules. I was referring to Hunchback alone.

Nothing is known for either film at this time, but a recent showing of Hercules on ABC Family was shown in HD using a new transfer, leading many to believe that a rerelease is in the planning stages, possibly for both DVD and Blu-Ray.

So I just finished watching Beauty and the Beast on blu-ray and it was absolutely breath-taking. As I was in the mood for a good Disney renaissance marathon I began watching from The Little Mermaid to Tarzan. As many of you have already pointed out I was absolutely appalled at the treatment given to Hercules and the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I mean seriously? They are amazing films but they lack so much compared to the other films from the same era.

TLM, BatB, Aladdin, TLK, Mulan, Pocahontas and Tarzan have all been released in two-disc editions with all new transfers. I mean... Both tHoND and Herc were moderately successful, critically acclaimed, gorgeous animated films that deserve to be treated much, much better. I know all i'm doing is ranting but there has to be something we can do?

Actually, there should be something we can do to alert Disney that their fans are becoming increasingly annoyed with their Home-video releases. I do appreciate BatB and all it's glory, but some fans really do want to see HoND and Herc with at least a proper transfer. Heck i'm actually really glad that we even got a decent enough transfer for The Black Cauldron. But weren't we promised so much more for it? And how about Fantasia + Fantasia 2000 having a very limited amount of bonus features?

I'm just very dissatisfied with the way Disney are treating their animated canon. Like really disappointed.

Yep..that's pretty much everyone on this forum as well. Instead of Disney working on restoring their Animated Cannon we get this crap

^ and those are combo packs for crying out loud.

Let's see, since Disney starting doing Blu Ray releases of the animated canon (beg with Sleeping Beauty)...we've had numerous animated canon films released without any Blu Ray treatment or update whatsoever.

I was appalled with the new release of Oliver & Company. Disney really has no respect for their animated canon if their idea of a better edition of a movie is adding one measly remote game for kids.

So are Disney afraid of re-releasing HoND or Hercules, two beloved films, as they won't sell properly When they're releasing Space Paws which I doubt would sell under two million copies? (Going by dvd sales of space buddies + Maybe a little more considering it is Christmas)

If they actually attempted to treat the DAC respectfully, with a substantial amount of Bonus Features (That actually end up being on the disc.. looking at you Fantasia) and a decent amount of marketing... Well wouldn't they have the ability to actually sell a fair amount of copies?

Now i'm not taking the mickey out of these films, but if it weren't for consistent marketing and having Disney shove down the TLM, TLK, BatB and Aladdin everywhere we go, would the average consumer still remember the Belle or Ariel as fondly as they are now?

They're losing respect from their fans... but they don't care that much about their fans now do they...

I'm going with never.

Fox and the Hound recently went out of print together with Pocahontas so those will most likely be the next new updated editions, either Blu-Ray, DVD without previous features or whatever Disney decides to do.

If anyone needs clarification, Fox was the first Gold Collection non-high profile title to be reissued. Obviously the renaissance films came first, save Hunchback and Hercules.

So thoughts?
