Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)
TMNT was good IMO. And I was glad to see the rating at PG-13. Their target audience was the original fans, who have grown up. So it was only natural to have a higher rating.
Same thing with Transformers. If they are going to market these movies to the original fan base, they have to up the mature themes somewhat. No one went to see TMNT to listen to Micky give off one corny, dated joke after another. They went to see how the characters themselves changed over the course of the movies/years and grew up. Just as the fans grew up.
However movies like Garfield and Alvin are more targetted to the younger kids. You can't really compare them to the action-packed tv shows/movies like TMNT and Transformers. Garfield and Alvin were always there for comedy entertainment. While TMNT and Transformers were action entertainment.

Well, TMNT was actually PG, and I thought it was pretty horrible. I also thought it was the exact same dated thing over and over. Probably why it flopped. Transformers, on the other hand, did adapt to its original audience. It also became accessible for the non-fans, like myself and many others. It just owned all.Siren wrote:TMNT was good IMO. Ah, right, it was going to be PG-13, but they cut down the Raph/Leo fight and made Raph's sais a little smaller.
And I don't judge a movie on how well it does in the box office. Titanic killed every record. I think it stunk. But to each their own.
And yes, Transformers had one up on TMNT because it didn't start in the middle. TMNT picked up where it left off. At the end of the third movie. While Transformers re-introduced itself to the world, however, some of the jokes were more mature (or immature depending on how you looked at it, lol) for their target audience. The original fans who grew older.

I actually heard that when it was first taken to the ratings board, it was rated R. I wish they would have kept it that way. You can tell it was heavily cut though, especially the huge scene at the end when theyre fighting all the foot outside the tower. That scene was edited BIG TIME. I hope the DVD has all the deleted stuff or they come out with an unrated version.Siren wrote:Ah, right, it was going to be PG-13, but they cut down the Raph/Leo fight and made Raph's sais a little smaller.

Just Myself you forgot about He-Man (might see She-Ra too) will be made to live action movies too...and G.I. Joe.
TMNT and Transformers were both great films and hopefully the sequels will be great too.So far, there's been Garfield, TMNT, Transformers, and now A&TC - Four 80's/90's cartoon adapted into live action/CGI films. All have sucked (assuming this will, too) but one, and it's the one that went outside the kiddie demographic (Not that the Turtles or Alvin are going to start blowing crap up in PG-13 level violence any time soon). I guess what I'm trying to say is -
STOP MAKING THESE MOVIES. M'KAY?![]()

saw it yesterday and hated it. i love the cartoon chipmunks much better. i still have they're three DTV movies called The Chipmunk Adventure, Alvin and the Chipmunks meet Frankenstein, and Alvin and the Chipmunks meet the Wolfman. i just hope they don't start talking inhip-hop slang the moment they appear cause it'll just ruin the whole film. oh and wednsday i'm going to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

i'm going all the way to Arlington to their new movie theater that serves food while your watching the movie that ends the question of 'should we eat before or after the movie?' but i'll have to get at least an hour before since it'll be crowded and they start letting people in thirty minutes before hand. where do you live Disney-Fan?

Aw, I liked TMNT and Transformers..Garfield was ok. I'm excited to see movies being made about my favourite TV shows from when I was little. Makes it seem like they haven't been forgotten about yet, which always means more hope for seasons being released!
I guess at least the chipmunks look like actual chipmunks. It would have been hard to make a CGI movie and have them look like they did in the cartoon. What I don't like is when they change the whole attitude and morals of the character. Then it just seems wrong.

The Chipmunk Adventure was not a DTV ... it was shown in movie theaters ...disneyfreak90 wrote:i still have they're three DTV movies called The Chipmunk Adventure, Alvin and the Chipmunks meet Frankenstein, and Alvin and the Chipmunks meet the Wolfman.
This was one of the best movies when I was growing up ... always a favorite ... glad it's on DVD now ...

How could you have possibly seen this movie already? It doesn't come out until DECEMBER.

I think he meant that he saw the poster yesterday, not the movie.PapiBear wrote:Studio Movie Grill, right?disneyfreak90 wrote:i'm going all the way to Arlington to their new movie theater that serves food while your watching the movie that ends the question of 'should we eat before or after the movie?' but i'll have to get at least an hour before since it'll be crowded and they start letting people in thirty minutes before hand.

Wow, when will Canada get with the times and start getting some better movie theaters! Being able to have a full meal in the theater would be awesome! Now all they need to do is kick everyone under 18 out of the late shows and I'd be living a dream.....

I take it most of us here grew up on the 80's version of the Chipmunks, but that in itself was a new take on an older show. I wonder if that version annoyed any older fans. . .
So it's happening again. . . if it's any good this movie will introduce a new generation of fans. If not, it will fade into obscurity like the Garfield movie has in my mind.
Anyway, let's not let this first look dictate how we feel. . . we can't judge a movie by it's teaser poster.

I can't see the first pic but I know what you mean. . . they were once flat and angular (possibly a UPA influence?) and became oh-so-cute and cuddly in the 80's!!!
And now. . . they're hyper-realistic cartoony CGI critters. . .
I guess it goes to say that they're always a product of their era?

EDIT: Oh, almost forgot, they've also been puppets too?
Let me see if I can fix Siren's pic:

(Re-hosted it, I don't think it can be hot-linked or something)
