Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, and Rashida Jones Want to Make THE GREATEST MUPPET MOVIE EVER MADE
http://www.collider.com/2010/10/14/the- ... ida-jones/
Writer Nicholas Stoller confirmed in May the early rumors that the The Greatest Muppet Ever Made had room for plenty of cameos in the script from celebrities of note. We’re starting to see the fruit of those seeds, with Amy Adams among the first names tossed about as a candidate. Heat Vision confirms that Adams is in negotiations to play star Jason Segel’s girlfriend, who helps him reunite the Muppets to put on a show in order to save a movie studio. Chris Cooper is in talks to play the villain in the film, a man who somehow never found the Muppets funny and wants to buy the studio to tap the oil underneath. Rashida Jones is likewise talking to Disney about playing an ABC executive.
Here’s an early synopsis of the script:

The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time is about Gary, Mary, and Walter (a man, his girlfriend, and the man’s life-long nondescript, brown puppet best friend) getting the old Muppet gang – now retired entertainers known for the same Muppet show we know them from – together to save the TV studio that the original show was shot in. A villain, Tex Richman (nice name, on par with Doc Hopper), bent on drilling for oil underneath the studio, is due to take over the studio in weeks, and the only way to stop him? Putting on a show that draws ten million viewers.

Shouldn't the Muppets be the main characters and not human actors? I know it's not unusual for them to have human actors as main characters (Scrooge in Muppet Christmas Carol and Hawkins in Muppet Treasure Island, for example), but even those films had Muppets be central characters that drive the plot. Shouldn't Kermit or Fonzie or Gonzo be the main ones responsible for bringing the gang back together?

But having Amy Adams' name on the poster, that puts the butts in the seats. The Muppets alone don't sell.

And if not, that is the executive reasoning anyway. No way would they pump money into a project with no big names attached. And Disney+Amy Adams is a safe bet.

This is gonna kick serious butt. I also love Segel and Adams. Two genuinely funny actors who I think will have amazing chemistry with each other and with the muppets.

I think this will be a HUGE success.

I obviously can't wait to see that. After all, I always love The Muppets. And I agree, it's going to be successful.

Wow - a table read with Lasseter, Bird, Doctor, Stanton, Peterson, Catmull, Arndt, etc.? I think I would pass out. I really hope this film impresses.

Jane Lynch, Danny Trejo, and Donald Glover are joining the new muppet movie!:

http://www.moviehole.net/201033424-lync ... ppet-movie

"Jane Lynch (“Glee”), Danny Trejo (“Machete”) and Donald Glover (“Community”) are the latest actors to jump aboard the ostensibly celebrity-heavy new “Muppets” movie that Nick Stoller & Jason Segel are putting together for Mandeville Films-Universal.

The Wrap, who had the aforesaid casting news, said “While Glover’s role remains unspecified, Lynch will play a prison guard and Trejo will play her prisoner.”

Production Weekly have also added some names of their owns to the James Bobin directed picture – Zach Galifianakis, Jack Black and Kristen Schaal (from “Flight of the Conchords”).

Galifianakis is playing Hobo Jo, Schaal has been mentioned as the Moderator, and Black has an unspecified part.

There was a rumor floating around yesterday that Paul Rudd had signed on to voice the character of Walter, Segel’s puppet pal in the movie, but Production Weekly say that’s no likely the case.

The script, by Segel and Stoller, is killer funny – lots of great throwback gags, an abundance of cameos (and not simply lame ‘Joey’ and ‘Pacey’ appearances like “Muppets from Space” offered up), some fun new characters, and predominately, a story with ‘heart’ – something every Muppet movie post “The Great Muppet Caper” really lacked.

The film – formerly titled “The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made”; believe they’re trying to come up with something snazzier than that – is underway in Los Angeles, with a cast that includes Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones and Steve Carell.

In the pic, Mary (Adams), Gary (Segel) and Walter (Gary’s hand-puppet) are out to regroup Kermit, Fozzie, Piggy, Rowlf and the gang in an effort to save the old Muppet theatre from falling into the hands of the devilish Tex Richman (Cooper)."

More on-set pics!:

On the topic of the movie, I hope the movie gets a G rating. PG is OK, but G would seem a better fit.

Am I missing something? Is pepe the muppet equivalent of Jar Jar to fans or something? I never thought there was anything wrong with him.
