JeanGreyForever wrote:Unfortunately, most people consider Snow White so dated that they won't be particularly reverent towards major changes in the songs. I hope the romantic songs in particular (I'm Wishing, One Song, Someday My Prince Will Come) won't be too radically overhauled, the latter song in particular. It may not gel in today's culture but it's a classic nevertheless.
Those three are my favorite too. I'd love if they don't mess with the songs too much, arrangement-wise but at this point I'll be glad if they're included at all. One Song might still make it but I doubt the other two will. Both of them are about longing for a man and are considered unfeminist nowadays. At this point, I just hope both are included even if it means radically changing the lyrics.
JeanGreyForever wrote:Honestly it sounds more like they're gonna update the old songs to sound more fresh and contemporary rather than create new songs that sound like they could have come from 1937.
Wouldn't that be so cool and refreshing though? Even if Disney allowed it, I'm not sure Pasek & Paul could have pulled off such a task. You'd need someone like Menken and Schwartz who are more versatile and can work with pastiche. "True Love's Kiss" from Enchanted totally feels like it belongs in Snow White. It's difficult to make that sound feel earnest and not venture off into parody.

I feel like "True Love's Kiss" is emulating old style, not updating old style to fit new style. Hence why I said they should try to write songs that emulate the old style and fit in with the old style.

I actually feel very confident "I'm Wishing" and "Someday My Prince Will Come" will be in, just perhaps with added lyrics.

Oh gosh, I'm very worried that they've been assigned to Snow White. Would much rather it be Alan Menken ? But he can't do everything I suppose.

Though having said that, Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman were perfect with emulating and expanding the Mary Poppins universe with Mary Poppins Returns. They would be respectful of the source and add to it, I think.

I don't much care about Snow White, but at least these songwriters seemed respectful of Aladdin. There isn't any well-founded reason at all to expect any of the original songs will be omitted from the film, least of all Snow White's main song.

So thrilled it's happening! :D

I honestly imagine them to treat the movie as a old golden age movie musical. Snow White was the first Disney animated movie, so I think (or at least hope) they will treat this with great respect and care. Including the music.

I just hope they don't make Snow overly feminist. Her purity and kindness is why I love her so much. You can make her modern, but don't overdo it.

I am also worried and curious about the casting. Snow's voice is so distinctive and unique, I would hate if they hire a non-singer or pop star for Snow. Above all, please hire little people (is that the right saying?) for the Dwarves, and not do CGI and motion capture for them.   If Mirror Mirror did it, so can Disney!

Since Gaga may be in consideration for TLM, perhaps Katy Perry will be considered for the title character of Snow White? She does have a Disney connection through ABC. Katy's autotuned garbles wouldn't be too different from the inhuman, sped-up vocals of SW. :P

Very excited about this! It sounds like it’s in good hands.

I think Katy Perry is unfortunately too old to be considered a 13 year old Snow White... though they may make her older in this version. As for Gaga, i actually think she’d be better cast as the Evil Queen rather than Ursula. If they write a song for the Queen, she could really do it justice. I’d love if they go with an unknown for Snow and then a big name like Gaga or so for the Queen.

I was joking, I swear. :) Whatever happens, Disney's Snow White can't possibly be worse than Kristen Stewart in SW&tH.

I actually think Nicole Kidman would be a great Queen. She's beautiful, of course, and can project the same coldness that Angelina Jolie does as Maleficent. I can just imagine her talking to a child Snow White. Of course, she may be seen as a little too similar to Charlize Theron who played the same role so incredibly not too long ago.

Honestly, I think I may actually prefer if it was an animated version rather than live action. If only because in recent years we've had SW fairest of them all, mirror mirror & Huntsman. Animated movie was aaaages ago. I know Disney wouldn't do it, but it would be interesting.

That said, if the film was faithful to Disney as possible, but with a more modern take. Not too modern of course, she doesn't need to be a sword wielding warrior. But maybe as modern as Cinderella was. Where you understand her situation or even like Jasmine, where she has higher ambitions than the original film.

I didn't like The Amazing Spider-Man films much. I haven't seen his other movies, but I believe at least his first film, (500) Days of Summer, was well received by critics.

Regarding the music, I think Disney has chosen these particular songwriters precisely to modernize the songs. In the interview they seem to be aware of the big responsibility they have in adapting such a beloved classic though, so we'll see, maybe they'll do a respectful job.

For anyone concerned about Marc Webb, I urge you to see his work on the television show Crazy Ex Girlfriend. He gets musicals and theatricality, and personally I think he might be exactly what this movie needs to keep it balanced between being overly corny and too serious.

They should probably cast great actors who are average size and digitally make them small. Why? Because it looked good when Snow White and the Huntsman did it and it gives more opportunity to have actors that can...well...act.

Omg yes Nicole Kidman as the Queen! But Snow White's vocals were never sped up, were they?

Marc Webb is good at musicals and can balance seriousness with sentiment...? Hope so!

I wonder who will be the actress to play the Princess herself. She needs to be super beautiful, and with a lovely singing voice. For the Queen, 2 come to mind, Meryl Streep or Nicole Kidman. I wonder, will they keep her woodland animal friends? In Beauty and the Beast, they didn't recreate the iconic scene of Belle showing the sheep the pages of her book, because they thought it would look silly to have a human talking with animals. Maybe they'll do the same with Snow White, and create a new character to kinda replace them. I hope not. I hope they won't in any way change her character or the story itself.

I feel Meryl Streep is way too old, and not beautiful enough. So Nicole Kidman all the way for me. Snow White should be beautiful and sing well and have a high pitch, just not too high, and have no updates other than expanding her character, just be another actresses's take on the character. And give her woodland friends! That's part of the original story! Well, the animals never harmed her, anyway.

Another great possibility for the Queen would be Eva Green. I think she would be a fantastic Queen. She's super beautiful, and a very talented actress.

My vote is for this as well. I also would love an actress like Rachel Weisz since I loved her as a villainess in Oz the Great and Powerful (and pseudo villainess in My Cousin Rachel). Janet Montgomery is lesser known but she's become one of my favorite actresses after her role in Salem as Mary Sibley where she plays a witch who turns to darkness but ultimately finds the light again at the end to be redeemed. She has the look and the gravitas to play this role imo and she would look amazing in all the different costumes.

Nicole Kidman is a great actress but looks nothing like the animated version whose design is impeccable and should not be altered imo. Meryl Streep is far too old but she could play the witch version. I'd prefer the same actress play both incarnations of the character. Would be interesting if they brought back Susan Sarandon since she essentially played this character in Enchanted, although she's also a bit too old for my taste for this role.

Eva Green would be alright. I think what made me think of Nicole Kidman is speculation about her for Cruella. If they go with Emma Thompson over her for that film, I'd love if she played the Queen. Meryl Streep can pull off any role, but I can't quite picture her ending up in this.

For Snow White's casting, there was a conversation sometime back about how Ella Purnell would be a great fit. I just don't know if she can sing or not. Emilia Clarke has been mentioned as well. She's not what comes to mind first but I really love her and think she could play the role if Snow White's character was slightly aged up.
