Adele doesn't come to mind?

But, yes, it's very strange to see other people fascinated with a Disney film again. It's especially nice if you remember the good times during the '90s high.

Adele is popular, although I've never heard any of her songs or at least none of which I was aware that they were hers. I still don't think most of the country knows her songs as they do My Heart Will Go On or Let It Go. Even some of the folks in the nursing home where I work recognize Let It Go but they don't know Adele from a hole in the ground. That's why I think Frozen is a unique phenomenon that doesn't happen much anymore in our country given our fractured and niched (is that a word?) culture.

I'm not saying that the animal movies aren't promoted, but let's face it, Disney are considering their Princess movies to be more important, considering how they began with one and several of them brought the company back on track again, as "Cinderella" and "Mermaid" (I'm tempted to say "The Princess and the Frog" as well, since it wasn't a flop, but considering that it wasn't the big breakout for Disney, I'm not sure if it counts). And let's not how forget how huge successes "Beauty and the Beast" and "Tangled" were.
As a matter of fact, The Princess and the Frog does, in a way, count because it did get Disney back on track by, like The Little Mermaid before, getting people to start seeing Disney movies in the theaters again.
I agree, despite the problems I have with it, I'll give the movie credit for being the one that more or less sparked the re-introduced Disney animated films to the movie going public. Frozen, is the one that sparked a new era for Disney in a way, and I still love the film even despite the pop culture craze behind it.

Okay! I know that is debatable and sensitive subject, but it can be seen as an eye-opener for Disney animation again.

Yes, that's part of why I thought talking animals was Disney's trademark. But I think when it comes to the Disney movie trademark, it is fairy tales. As DisneyFan09 suggested.

I completely agree. And wish you would be my friend again. :(

I think I ate that Atlantis cereal! It was ok. I was soooo excited for Atlantis, and then the movie came out and...meh. But I haven't seen it since that one time, maybe it's actually good. I was going to put that Frozen cereal in here to show how Frozen has indeed been overexposed, but since lots of films, even ones that aren't popular like Hunchback or Hercules, had food movie-tie-ins, it doesn't mean Frozen is too overexposed after all, in that department.

I admit that Atlantis wasn't everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed it. Problem was it was overshadowed by Shrek 1 which open a few weeks earlier. Also Lara Croft:Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie "we all saw what she did with Maleficent" opening on the same day as Atlantis didn't help matters either. But according to this article from July 17 2003: http://old.post-gazette.com/ae/20030717 ... 17fnp2.asp

Consider, also, what happened with "Atlantis: The Lost Empire." It earned $84 million at the box office and rebounded with another $157 million in DVD and VHS rentals and sales, according to Video Business.

That's quite abet of $$ for a film that was suppose to be bad. It's proof that people who skipped the film in theaters bought it on VHS/DVD or rent it when it came available on home media. The article also states that Treasure Planet made $64 million on home media.

I'm probably going to repeat myself, but I've actually liked "Atlantis" a lot when I first saw it and never understood why the majority disliked it that much. I remember that it opened the same day as "Tomb Raider", but unfortunately was overshadowed by that movie and "Shrek". Several reviewers were slamming "Atlantis" at the expense of "Shrek", which was unfair (in my opinion). To be honest, while "Shrek" had it's perks (it's mocking at fairy tales and pop reference humor), I had my fair amount of problems with it as well (dramatically uneven and the third half turns into a sappy, predictable "Wedding Planner" rip off).

While I do see more of the problems with "Atlantis" now (the first half is really rushed, Helga should have been more developed when she clearly had potential, Mole should have been thrown out and Milo gets the spotlight when he's overshadowed by superior characters), I've always thought it was enjoyable and entertaining with great music and action. As a older teen in the early 2000's, I appreciated that Disney broke from their 90's formula and made sci-fi like movies. Unfortuantely I doubt it will happen again soon. "Atlantis" should deserve greater recognition and I've always found it superior to the overrated "Lilo & Stitch".

The only good thing about Atlantis, is James Garner voicing the villain, which I started to like more, the more times that I watched it. But I still think Michael J. Fox was very annoying. And this coming from a huge "Back to the Future" fan, and also watched "Family Ties" back in the day.

So how is the Frozen cereal? I will bet, not as good as the Atlantis cereal, only because Atlantis has chocolate.

I can see how people are getting tired of "Let It Go", as I'm not looking forward to my niece coming, and constantly playing it on the laptop, and even trying to sing it sometimes. I have not reached that point yet, though I find myself liking the other songs in the film, even more.

Honestly, seeing how home video sales were so much higher than theatrical sales for so many hand-drawn films in the 2000's tells me the real downfall of hand-drawn animation was the DTV crap Disney was releasing those years. I believe people started to see 2D as something you buy on DVD, but you don't go to the theater to see. I think maybe in coming years, they may be able to try again (if anyone gives it a shot...) after the memory of the DTV phenomenon is forgotten.

Well, good for Atlantis. From my memories it just wasn't a very good film but hey, that's my opinion and I only saw it once when I was younger.

While "Let It Go" was exactly what Frozen needed to set it apart from the other recent Disney films and helped it become a success, I'm not a big fan of the song. I really don't care for the melody. I think it has a rather weak melody compared to songs like "A Whole New World" , "Part of Your World", or "Hellfire". I'm glad though that we have a new popular Disney song. Disney needed that. Hopefully that boosted Disney's confidence and will encourage them to build on that momentum..
