I agree, Disney/Pixar decides which of film they release throughout the year will win, so the animated film awards are utterly meaningless. Why even go through the sham of an alternate awards ceremony? Disney should just crown themselves and be done with it.

The BAFTA nominations have been announced. Only three nominees this year as opposed to four like last year.

I guess 2019 will be the ultimate showdown, Frozen 2 VS Toy Story 4.

The Oscar nominations have just been announced.

Best Animated Feature
The Boss Baby
The Breadwinner
Coco
Ferdinand
Loving Vincent

Best Animated Short
Dear Basketball
Garden Party
Lou
Negative Space
Revolting Rhymes

The rule changes in the feature category have deprived at least two indies of a nomination. In a very weak year for Hollywood animation, we could have easily had four indies nominated. Just look how many worthy (and better-reviewed) films were eligible and should have been nominated over The Boss Baby and Ferdinand.

My Entire High School Sinking into the Sea
Window Horses
The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales
Birdboy
Ethel & Ernest
The Girl without Hands
In This Corner of the World
Mary and the Witch’s Flower
Napping Princess
A Silent Voice

Shocked that In a Heartbeat wasn't even nominated. It looked like a lock win by GoldDerby experts. Hopefully this will be Glen Keane's inevitable Oscar win.

Poor "In a Heartbeat." "Evermore" is disappointing, more as a fan of Menken because it was a great song, imo. But I'm more annoyed by the former.

Yes, the rule changes have had its impact on the nominations after all. Between this and the "Evermore" snub, I'm really disappointed with this years' nominations. I wish there was some backlash against the exclusion of the indie films, and the Academy decided to leave the rules as they were before, but unfortunately, people don't care much about animation so I don't see that happening.

By the way, Coco also won the Producers Guild Award for Best Animated Feature this past weekend.

they really should make a best foreign animated film category, but that will never happen b/c who cares about cartoons that aren't even "made in America" right?

The Breadwinner and Loving Vincent aren't American, so they still found room for a couple of non-Hollywood entries, even with the new voting rules. Although I do wonder if the backlash over The Boss Baby's nomination will lead to the Academy going back to the old system. I'm pretty sure they even made these new rules because of The LEGO Movie not getting in...and The LEGO Batman Movie still lost out on a nomination!

I've been out of the loop a bit, I had no idea about the rule change! I was kinda baffled by the list of nominees, but this explains it. Ewe.
