Eh. From the information we have gather and behind the scene sets that were leak, it looks pretty promising as it is though I do think it is leaning a little bit too heavily nostalgia for nostalgic stake. Still look decent.Disney Duster wrote:Well, then I think it should have his ideas...but changed enough to be good by other people, just like for the original movies.

Beg pardon, but what exactly was wrong with Lucas's original script treatment? And not just for Episode VII, the original first Star Wars film.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII (2015)
There was a lot of them. It was poorly written and a huge mess that was all over the place. Gary Kurtz (and artist Ralph McQuarrie) was really the one who help shape Star Wars to becoming what it is as we know it. This is why Empire strike back was often regarded as the best because Gary was the director of that movie. Not Lucas. Lucas is a good idea man in which he came up with an interesting world and concept (and a extremely good business man. More of a business man that art person), but when it comes to writing and directing, he's pretty bad at it. He even admits that much later on in life.DisneyJedi wrote:Beg pardon, but what exactly was wrong with Lucas's original script treatment? For more information I think reading the book STAR WARS: How Star Wars Conquered the Universe: The Past, Present, and Future of a Multibillion Dollar Franchise helps explain a lot about it. also i believe the original script, both rough and first draft, are available to find online. the book give good insight not just on the back-story behind the films but also insight into Lucas' mindset.

I don't think that they totally threw out Lucas's outline for The Force Awakens. They used it as a starting point, hired a writer to flesh it out and then JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasden re-wrote.

I thought Kershner and Tomblin did most of the directing on Empire? I'll admit, I wasn't aware Kurtz had done any directing on the film (until just looking it up now), I thought he just produced.Super Aurora wrote:There was a lot of them. Re: Star Wars Episode VII (2015)
Ah you're right Gary only produced it but Gary did have a lot of say and decision in the direction of empire more so than Lucas did, as well as did actually help directed it along with Kershner. This is why Gary and Lucas broke apart before Jedi due to both had different envisions of how they wanted Jedi to go. (Lucas wanted the ewoks & han to live and Gary wanted wookies & Han to die for example)Mayhem wrote:I thought Kershner and Tomblin did most of the directing on Empire? The last interview I saw with JJ, he said that they don't even have a rough cut of the film done yet. I think that he would like to have it debut early but it's not likely going to happen. When they get these release dates, they are usually set in stone.

And all the fan-boys are happy, haha. I've only seen A New Hope and thought it was fine (I think people's nostalgia has really taken over for the original trilogy), so I'm not really that interested in the series, but I'm glad for those who are excited.Mickeyfan1990 wrote:NEW TRAILER IS GO!!!:

Re: Star Wars Episode VII (2015)
I mean, the 2009 Chipmunks film was up against Avatar, the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes, and the Princess and the Frog. I can just imagine the filmmakers thinking, "Hey, if we did it then, why can't we do it now? I mean, countless adults may have dropped their kids off to see our film while they were watching Avatar. Heck, we're probably an indirect cause of Disney stopping hand-drawn animation production. If we can do that, then we're powerful enough to surivive alongside, even if not necessarily beat, Star Wars!"
Little kids often watch other Star Wars films though, while Avatar appealed more to a huge adult audience. Also, it's been 6 years since then, and 4 years since the Chipmunk film. I think some parents who are seeing Star Wars will send their kids to Chipmunks at the same time, which is probably what the producers are hoping for, but really, I don't think that that will make for a very big audience. Even if I had a kid who hated Star Wars I'd probably send them to the Peanuts Movie or The Good Dinosaur instead anyways.

2) Dude, it's Star Wars. One of the most beloved film franchises in existence. Of course it has a chance.
Re: Star Wars Episode VII (2015)
How is that a shame? I actually like that it doesn't. They may have bought the franchise but they really had nothing to do with the creation of this franchise.

In a way it's like counter programming. There won't be any kids move released that weekend. Still I think it's a bold move, but before this I didn't even have in my head when this chipmunks movie was being released besides this year. Now I do. Time will tell if this will either be a pay off or kill the franchise with low numbers
