Check Out a Trailer For The Snow Queen
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=96450
Wizart Animation, one of the fastest growing animation studios in Russia, will screen The Snow Queen in its entirety in Stereoscopic 3D for the first time at AFM. Award-winning film producer and director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, 9), through his company Bazelevs Group, has signed on to be a co-producer and the Russian distributor of The Snow Queen, which is one of the most anticipated Russian film releases of 2012 and will be released in theaters there on December 31. You can check out the trailer for the release in the player below.

Based on the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, The Snow Queen tells the story of Kai, a young boy abducted to the wintry palace of the Snow Queen, who has blanketed the world in snow and ice, and Kai’s sister Gerda who ventures across a frozen wonderland to rescue him. The Snow Queen was written and directed by Maxim Sveshnikov and Vlad Barbe and co-produced by Inlay Film. The English and Russian soundtrack by Emmy-nominated composer Mark Willot features Latvian band Prata Vetra (aka Brainstorm) and Russian singer Nyusha. In Russia it will receive one of the widest theatrical runs of any animated feature.

Bekmambetov's animation credits includes 9, produced with Tim Burton, for which he was nominated for a Producers Guild Award; Kikoriki. Team Invincible, which he also co-produced; and Zambezia, which was distributed by Bazelevs in Russia.

“In my view, there are many talented people in Russia who in the future may become competitors to such studios as Pixar or Dreamworks,“ Bekmambetov said. “As to 'The Snow Queen', when we first saw the project we immediately felt its great potential and decided to step in as co-producers.”

Yuri Moskvin, Wizart Animation general producer comments, “Bazelevs has not only become a co-investor of 'The Snow Queen', but has also taken part in production, adding its enormous experience in creating popular commercial features to the final cut. We are sure that Bazelevs' track record combined with Wizart Animation's unique ability to produce high-quality Russian animation, will help in creating a project that is unprecendented in the Russian market – and worldwide.”

“This spectacular new adaptation of The Snow Queen has already attracted enormous interest from international buyers, proving that great animated movies can appeal to worldwide audiences, regardless of the country of origin,”
said Olga Sinelshchikova, Business Development Director at Wizart Animation. “We take great pride at Wizart in our ability to produce storytelling of the same quality and scale as the biggest international animated properties in the world, so Wizart is thrilled to present the complete 'Snow Queen' for the first time at AFM.”

Short excerpts from The Snow Queen have been presented to international buyers at EFM and Marche du Film 2012. The AFM screening, which will take place on November 1st at 9 am at the AMC Theater on the Third Street Promenade, is the first time that buyers will have a chance to see the complete film.

I find that troll in the trailer as a mascot to promote Wizart's, "The Snow Queen." For example, Flynn Rider is the mascot to support Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)." Genie for Disney's, "Aladdin." Sebastian, the crab, for Disney's, "The Little Mermaid." I believe that in Disney's, "Frozen (The Snow Queen)," their mascot would be Olaf, a talking snowman, that D23 presented as a puppet to portray him. Or maybe Kristoff, a mountain man who helps Anna, the princess, to free Elsa, the Snow Queen, from her curse. When it comes to animated movies to attract a wider audience, it could use some support by mascots.

P.S. In Disney's, "Wreck-It Ralph," everyone's a mascot.

Russia launches 3D 'Snow Queen' toon
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118061515
MOSCOW
Russian animation is poised to make a splash at the AFM with an adaption of Hans Christian Andersen's famous fairy tale called "The Snow Queen" on offer.

Timur Bekmambetov, whose Moscow-based shingle Bazelevs will distribute the film in Russia, has boarded the 3D cartoon story from Russian animation studio Wizart as co-producer.

The cartoon showcases the advances made in recent years in Russian animation where local toons have become big hits.

"Ivan Tsarevich and the Gray Wolf" produced by Sergey Selyanov, has taken over $20 million at domestic box office since its release late December and is the top grossing local film in Russia this year.

"The Snow Queen" features slick state-of-the art-animation, funny talking animals and a beautiful princess on a mission to rescue a prince kidnapped by an evil queen.

With a budget of $7 million the 80 minute film, which will world preemt at 9 a.m. today at AMC Santa Monica and is due for release in December -- is being made for a fraction of the cost of Disney's cartoon "Frozen" based on the same fairy tale.

"While 'The Snow Queen' was still in production, we presented clips to buyers in Berlin and Cannes this year and are now in the process of closing sales with multiple territories," said "Snow Queen" producer Yuri Moskvin.

"With Bazelevs on board as co-producer and distributor in Russia, and a wide release planned in Russia for the end of December, there's widespread interest in the final cut of the film which we'll be screening for the first time in its entirety at AFM."

Russian cartoons sold well at this year's Mipcom in Cannes where the Russian Cinema Fund and Assn. of Animated Cinema had a joint stand.

Among the deals was Russian company Aeroplan's agreement with Italy's Atlantyca Entertainment for the distribution of TV series Fiksiki in Western and Eastern Europe, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea. Norway's NRK Super bought the rights to the series Masha I Medved (Masha and Bear), which was earlier aired in France, Switzerland and Canada.

Great animation breakthrough Russia
http://kinobizon.ru/2012/11/05/sergeev-on-afm-day-2/
Very happy for colleagues, for the company, "Bazelevs" and studio WIZART: in the film market was showing a full picture of SNOW QUEEN / Snow Queen, which, despite the early hour of the show (9 am) present impressive number of buyers from around the world - more than a hundred people . This appearance was not observed in any show Russian films for many years. However, this result is impressive not only for Russian films. To early in the morning - in the hall was so much occupied seats - a rarity.

The audience accepted the film "a great success": as a quality international project, worthy of world wide release. The film was shown in full, in excellent 3D, dubbed in English. Buyers respond well to jokes (finally, the level of humor is truly international: it is clear to all and no «lost in translation»). Congratulations to the team by Timur Bekmambetov and personally Ruslan Tatarintseva for such a successful breakthrough. Russian animation takes serious steps to gain its international audience. It's time for change. Russian cinema is becoming more popular. Today it will be confirmed at the second screening materials pictures VIY 3D/VY 3D, which is expected to representatives of major companies and agencies, such as the international department of Universal, William Morris, Fox Searchlight, and more.

Anna Kotika wrote:How could pull off this shit??? You have disgraced Russian animation and ispohabili great work of Andersen. Lev Atamanov flips in his grave, probably.
Cate Alpha wrote:Hello Anna, and what you did not like? The premiere will take place on December 31, you have already seen our movie? In Scandinavian folklore, there are mentions of the Ice Maiden, the embodiment of winter and death (later the image was developed by many writers for children, in particular, Tove Jansson in "Winter Magic"). At most there is the Andersen fairy tale "The Ice Maiden" ... In addition to the Andersen fairy tale, there is also Schwartz, plus versions Atamanova - 7 versions of the Snow Queen in the film and animation. Well, what in the world there are different points of view, right?
Talk about a harsh comment by Anna Kotika. Kind of like talking dirty over the remakes made in the U.S., even though most of them are not CGI.
