Guru - your account appears to have been disabled. I can't see anything.

I really think you should take the critisisms in a positive light. Graphic Design is very tough, certainly not for my skill set. I think if you take what others have to say the right way you will end up a lot better at it in the end.

My most recent cover art is not a DVD artwork but a VHS, This film was never released commercially anywhere in the world so I had to use screen caps from my dvd.

I think if you improved the resolution, made better fonts and redo the design, it would be better.

Thanks for the tip I will have to try that. But I thought I did a pretty good job on it the way it is.

Guru... you just have to be more creative and learn how to use something like PaintShop Pro or Photoshop.

Look at hermionegranger's artwork:
http://www.dark-prophecy.com/Beauty-and-the-Beast-1.jpg

Now that's what I call a "custom artwork". She didn't chop up low-resolution posters and screenshots and cram them together. So did Chernobog, who posted some great work a long time ago.

Not trying to hurt you, but you should really work harder if you want to improve yourself. I hope I can see some real "custom artwork" from you too in the future.

Coustom, Custom, Coustom? Make up your mind!

As for the cover...um...I won't say anything, but maybe this story could be of use...

Let's say this one girl makes really bad...lemonade. Like, the worst, and she offers it to everyone at a party. Since it's her first time making lemonade, the guests say, "Wow, that's the best lemonade I tasted!" when in reality, they're probably thinking "Did she forget the sugar? Hell, did she forget the lemons and just put sour juice in here?". But since they don't want hurt her feelings, they keep pretending it's great lemonade, and every party, they have to drink it, because the girl is given false compliments. Then one day, a new guest, unfamiliar with her lemonade, comes to a party and drinks it, and in front of everybody, declares "Eww, what horrible lemonade!". The girl suddenly realizes that everyone knew it was horrible, but to spare her feelings, they all faked that it was good.

Good god, this is why I did a PM instead of flat out saying it, but if you're gonna take it like a weepy child, I might as well say what I really mean.

First, my PM, which would have gone in the thread, but I didn't want to seem heartless:
I kind of echo DisneyChris's constructive criticism. Not wanting to be mean, but if peeps keep telling you "Looks great! Keep up the good work!", it won't improve. I'm not trying to hurt your feelings either, but you just gotta realize that your current work is just...not good.

Back when the thread was started, I remember them being nothing more than movie posters with "DVD Video" pasted in a corner (despite your saying they were "enhanced", they looked just like th movie posters). Then it moved on to a simplistic rectangular box with one or two screencaps, and the title and stars in a simplistic font. And now, while you have varied a bit in design, in the end, to me they still look like $1 DVD knock-off covers, or movie posters with a few extraneous and unneeded things. For example, the Tammy Tell Me True artwork looks like the original VHS cover, and all you added was an awkwardly-placed screencap, VHS in the corner, and the stars on the bottom, and the fonts don't even match up with the original cover, making it look awkward. And in Tammy and the Doctor, it looks like an obvious cut and paste since the yellow background with the large screencap does not match up with the yellow background of what I assume is the original movie poster.

And yet people like Luke, Renata, Maerj, they continue to feed false compliments, perhaps to boost your self-esteem, perhaps because they try to look at it optimistically, perhaps because they're blind. The false compliments will not help you in the real world, there will be people who will look at this, say "It sucks" and not think at all how you feel when they say that. It's the hard truth, and one that's best learned early. Brutal honestly can hurt (that's why it's brutal), but it helps. Even though this is fan artwork, and it most likely will never be a professional DVD cover, it can always use improvements, and if people continually say "It gets better and better each time!" when they continue to be below-mediocre, they are not helping you at all.

I know it may seem harsh, but it's the truth.
And now, what I really really wanted to say...

You come here and post your DVD "artwork". In my opinion, they're not good. Hell, I'm gonna be brutally honest. I don't like them and I think they suck. Trimming (or as you call it "enhancing) an old movie poster, an old comic book, an old VHS cover, or the existing DVD cover and adding screencaps and non-matching fonts does not make it a DVD cover.

But people don't want to hurt your feelings, so they continually tell you it's great, it's wonderful, it's improving, when in fact, IT'S NOT.

A few of us offer constructive criticism, we tell you programs you can use to make it better. DisneyChris and I recently both offered advice, but in previous pages, you can see that others also have offered their advice. And yet, you continue to produce bad artwork. It may look good to you, and maybe that's all that should matter, but when you publicly display the "artwork", you leave it out there for people to judge and criticize as they like.

We offer you advice, but rather than take the advice maturely and say "Thank you, I'll try that", you decide, "Boo-hoo, you guys don't like me or my work, I'll stop and I'll keep spelling custom wrong with the stupid O". (Side note: PLEASE TELL ME WHY IN THE WORLD YOU SPELL IT WITH AN O!) If that sob story is supposed to get sympathy out of others and prompt them to say "No, that's just them Guru! WE love your covers! They're great!", they'll just be feeding you false compliments and it will do NOTHING to improve your "artwork".

I'd like to say something positive, like "get one of the programs DisneyChris recommended, and in time we can see some good stuff", but I feel it will fall on deaf ears, as it has been said before in the previous pages by previous posters, and still you have not listened. If you keep taking these false compliments, you will not get better.

Looking through the entire thread, this...
Constructive Criticism, as several members wrote:subzero: errrr... no comment

Loomis: But those look like a bunch of unfolded movie posters, not "Custom DVD Artworks "

Jens: From my point of view those are horrible. I have seen your "artwork" before and I must honestly say as a webdesigner that they look like some brownish substance which's name just slipped my mind. Sorry if I offended you, but that's the hard truth.

Jens2: Ok ok, I agree that I wasn't very constructive here. Now first I would like to say that what I have seen from him he has send me on MSN and is not in that album. However, it looks like them, and it's about the same quality. Ok, here I go:

1. The quality of the images is horrible, try to pick high quality images or high resolution images so you can shrink them to the desired size
2. If you are attempting to cut and paste, try to cut it straight and not crooked, the rectangle selection tool in any graphics program is a good tool for that. If the piece you are trying to cut out is already crooked on the image, try rotating it and then cut it out.

3. Use more colors

I have some more, but I won't bother.

Just Myself: Sorry Disney Guru, I'm not really liking it... Some are good, but others don't even look like DVD's. Sorry

Tangela: Hmmm... You want nice or honest...?

Escapay: Four of them look like their original posters, but you copy/pasted a DVD label onto it. The Disney ones leave something to be desired. Perhaps something more than a solid rectangle with a picture that only takes up 1/3 of the space?

Tangela2: I don't mean to be rude, Chris, hope you don't take this the wrong way, but... How should I say this? Your "DVD Covers" are not too good... I tried not to say anything, I didn't want to hurt your feelings but, I thought I should say... Please, don't take this the wrong way.

Jens3: Tangela, what's wrong with posting your own opinion? As long as you're constructive and tell what you don't like it's ok! These new dvd covers look uhm "better" (not saying they look good). The quality of the images is horrible, don't you see those ugly marks around the text? That's because it's saved at like the most compressed quality there is for jpg. And I guess you are doing this with paint? With paint you really can't make anything look "more proffesional" so I guess that if you really want to create proffesional covers then you should buy some proffesional program like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. And if you're posting them on this forum, don't be suprised when you get some negative replies, it's at your own risk!

JustMyself2:I'm really sorry, but I think they're.... Horrible. There! I said it! I'm sorry!

JimmyJackJunior: I really think you should take the critisisms in a positive light. Graphic Design is very tough, certainly not for my skill set. I think if you take what others have to say the right way you will end up a lot better at it in the end.

And this...
What I perceive as false complimeents, as members wrote wrote:Yuki: If anything, I won't be able to stop talking about them!!! They are so good!
I bet they took a long time, didn't they???
I don't know what the rest of the world is thinking, but I really enjoyed them!! They're great!
The time you put into them was really worth it!
You should do more!

pinkrenata: Wow, those are something else. Really. Something else.

Sekaino Jasmine: Those are really cool! You made them yourself? Wow!

Yuki2:
I like your new one! It looks professional!

....or wait...are you a proffesional???

pinkrenata2: I can't believe it. They just keep getting better and better!

Yuki3: You're rapidly improving! Keep up the good work!

Dacp: your art is so good.

Luke: Looks great, Guru!

Maerj: Great work Guru!

deathie mouse: Nice clean handsome design, Guru
Somethings that surprised me:
Replies to the comments, DG wrote:Disney Guru: All of the coverarts are deleted currently. I am redesigning them to make them look more professional than I will put them back on the internet.

Disney Guru2: Click on my link to see my newest DVD artwork. It is of the classic Hollywood FIlm Girl Can't Help It. This is actually a modified version of the origional movie poster!

Disney Guru3: For your information little miss perfect. I did my best. And they are remastered versions of the Posters and I changed them a bit to make them look more professional then they already did. And Diamonds ON Wheels the Pic is not from the poster. It is a pic that I took off my TV while I was watching the movie. And I just remastered it!

Disney Guru4: Thanks for the tip I will have to try that.
Did you try it, DG? Doubtful.

Escapay, don't you see? If they were made any differently, they wouldn't have that special Disney Guru touch. Let him post his artwork if it makes him happy. And if it offends you that much (which I'm sure it doesn't), just refrain from clicking the link. But, who knows. Maybe he will take your advice. Maybe his artwork will start looking like everyone else's.

Thank you Renata for backing me up.

And a note to all of you who dislike my art. I could make my artwork like you guys do but i want my artwork to be unique. I get so sick of these so called perfect artworks that come with the DVDs that you buy.Sure I know that most of you probablly think "What is this kid thinking" when you see my artworks. But They are me. If you don't like them just don't post or don't PM me as Escapay has done.

I have a sin to admit.

The Coustom Artworks are not real, or authentic.

The images are mainly from lobby cards, and posters.

I can't do Coustom DVD Artworks. I should have listened to your comments but I am just to Rock Hard Stubborn.
