Disney's Divinity wrote:Well, I knew it was only a matter of time before this thread went down in flames like the last one. At least I didn't contribute anything this time.

All I have to say is:

Hercules & Megara > Hercules & Aladdin > Aladdin & Jasmine

Jasmine fell off the carpet.
Actually, Jasmine is so anorexic a gust of wind blew her off the carpet I bet ;)

If Disney did a theatrical feature like that, it would probably make a lot of gay people happy.

But this could turn out to be the consequence for the studio:

Image

Espeically if boycotted by cinema and movie theater chains, after pressure from family friendly organizations.

For the moment, animation fans who want to see gay content will have to settle with movies like Queer Duck.

^ Well, I just find that offensive. Aladdin and Herc don't live in the country and probably not even the same time period.

The carpet does get around, though. Maybe it can time travel?

They don't live in same time period.

Aladdin occur some time after Islam was establish as in the movie points various references to Allah and other Islam culture.

Hercules is from ancient Greece which is well before Jesus' birth. so yeah do the math.

Pinkrenata, Super Aurora, none of that stopped Disney themselves from putting Aladdin and Hercules together in a cross-over for the TV show. Agrabah is a fictional place after all...

milojthatch, Walt Disney himself was okay with Tommy Kirk being gay, more than one report has revealed. So Disney doing a movie with gay characters is perfectly still doing what Walt wanted and was all about. Disney's Reluctant Dragon was a character already made to be "as gay as possible" by Ward Kimball, and Walt and the other Disney men knew about it. Enchanted has a gay character for a scene. I will also point out gay people still have families as they didn't come from nowhere, a mother and father still had to produce them and raise them, they were young gay kids and teens before they became adults. It's true, because when I was young I liked boys in that way, but I didn't know I was gay, but I was still part of the family and would have loved to see two guys being in love in a movie. And there are many other people who will tell you the truth, too, that when they were young they were definately gay, while still watching films with their families. And Disney's already done lots of dysfunctional, different families, as the article even points out.

And as much as you may believe it's not true, lots of people believe being gay is alright, even with God, and that they're just as accepted by him as you are. You believe certain things, but we believe certain things, too.

Well said! I am gay myself and feel the same way you do about this, I would have loved to see Disney movies with two guys or two girls being in love.

And for those "family friendly" organizations people keeps referring to, I would like to call them narrowminded and intolerant. The way they view people that are not straight disgust me, all humans should be equal and treated with the same respect.

Hopefully one day we will experience a day when all is treated equally and not regarding their sexual orientation, sex, color, etc. Songs like "Someday" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and "Reflection" from Mulan comes to my mind;) Disney is all about family and friendship, helping eachother, good conquering evil etc, and the message in many of their movies is that people should be who they are and not hide it.
Favorite Disney-movies: Snow White, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, Tangled, Frozen, Pirates, Enchanted, Prince of Persia, Tron, Oz The Great and Powerful

I think trying to reason with a Mormon is pretty "fruitless" to be honest...

It's the trollface/coolface/problem? meme (try googling it at your own risk, most of the pages I've found explaining it are kinda NSFW-ish).

I'm not one myself, but I don't think it's particularly fair to lump all Mormons together in one group. From what I gather, there are also those who are more easy-going.

Mormons: people who allow themselves to have multiple wives, but hate gay people who are in monogamous relationships. It were Mormons who funded the Prop 8 in California, overturning same-sex marriage. Oh, and they're stupid, because they believe Jesus was born in America.

You're absolutely right. They're not 'family friendly' organizations. Those people would disown their own children if they turned out to be gay and kick them out of the house and never speak to them again. And most of those organizations aren't too friendly to mommy, either, who they believe shouldb't be working, but staying home to clean and cook and reproduce. So far for the family friendliness.

Please refrain from using gross generalizations. No matter what, there is always an exception to the rule.
