:o what on earth are you implying?!!! I was just an innocent child, my mind would not have been corrupted with such thoughts!!! Ironically enough, all my action men had heterosexual relationships, I married one of them to my sister's Belle doll (The Beast must have been mistreating her again)
I always made sure mine were gay. i'd play with them in the bath and then lay one on top of the other and laugh. oh i was strange. my action men phase didn't last for long though. i moved on to playmobil and had one amazing pirate ship full of dirty cabin boys

ADULT LANGUAGE ALERT (some explicit or crude terminology)

Cordy_Biddle wrote:Stereotypes like in Heathers? According to that movie, all gay people walk around with Joan Crawford postcards, candy-dishes and bottled water. :D Great movie tho.
Actually, that was a comment on what people assume is gay. Jason Dean even says- "yeah, but this is Ohio. If you don't have a brewskie in your hand, you might as well be wearing a dress." That's why Veronica laughs when he's pulling the items out of the bag one by one.

my chicken is infected wrote:I do love me some Joan Crawford, whether the real deal in films like The Women, or as portrayed by Faye Dunaway in a certain campy film that'll make you think twice about ever bringing a wire hanger into your home. :P
I don't see the appeal of Joan Crawford myself. I mean, in Strait-Jacket, that could have been any woman in her early 50's brandishing an ax and it would have been just as entertaining. Hell, look at Friday the 13th. That's camp, sharp weapons, and horror hags all rolled into one. Faye Dunaway had her hag-horror moment in Eyes of Laura Mars, though her monster / psycho role was, yeah, Mommie Dearest (often overlooked in horror circles, but every bit as disturbing and messed up as Psycho).

As for gay stereotypes... I think if we look, we'll find we all resemble at least one of them. But it's not really straight people who came up with all of them. They don't necessarily have the final say in how those stereotypes make us look. We can choose to look down on them or smile slyly and admit it. That's not really admitting we're anything negative that interest might imply.

Beast_enchantment wrote:i love Bette Midler, but for her comedy films, not her music.
Funny someone should bring that up. Lucille Ball, as we all know, has a strong gay following. I should think Carol Burnett does as well- she's one of my favorite comediennes. Then, of course, there's Fran Drescher and other Jewish funny women. Roseanne has a huge gay following too, naturally we know that as well. As for Bette's music... I can't say I've heard any of it. Did start to download "Wind Beneath My Wings" on Napster (back when it was illegal, nearly a decade ago) just to hear the first 30-45 seconds of it. And it was atrocious. So, I'd say she's got a beautiful voice, her songs are just kind of poorly produced. Or, just less catchy than Madonna's. And, I guess Cher's. But I only like Cher's real rock music. The louder and heavier the guitars and drums, the better. She could have gone metal if she'd wanted to.

Beast_enchantment wrote:Not a fan of chick flicks (the furthest i'll go is Mean Girls and even then i'm on the fence)
That may be unfair. Chick flicks have gotten dumber since we lost the brassy women like Julia Roberts to the Jennifer Garner, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Swank stuff. Everyone now is trying to riff on either Diane Lane or Reese Witherspoon. Even on TV, where Drop Dead Diva is going through some of the motions of previous chick hits. The aim is to be cutesy and get something out quick. Timing seems to be more important than quality.

The classics still hold up pretty well. I love chick flicks from the 90's and such.

ajmrowland wrote:Reading these topics has gotten me confused about MY sexuality. I'm fairly certain I'm straight, but I have seen a lot of girls' entertainment without cringing. Also, my toys were largely gender-neutral. I did used to play with a mulan mcdonald's figure, which didn't involve dress-up. When I was little, I did sometimes sneak into the basement and fiddle with my sister's barbie stuff, but never did much. I somehow also found myself very, very scared of most of Disney's female villains to the point where I'd never touch Snow White, Little Mermaid until I was 10 or 11, and all of the villains of the '90s were males. Then again, I did also invest most of my time into Peanuts' and trains. Lots and lots of trains! If sexuality was pinpointed by childhood, that makes things somewhat murky. I may just be bisexual. In addition, there were one or two instances of hair/nails, but never wearing a dress. And, I enjoy a few chick-flicks(Mean Girls, Legally Blonde), but not nearly as much as I do LOTR.
Hmmm... How old are you?

As soon as I was "doing something"* about my attraction to men, I knew I was gay.

Human sexuality is a really funny thing. We're almost like radios sometimes. We tune in to certain qualities of the attractiveness of a gender. If you like to kiss soft lips, I hear that's a natural feature of women. And I've heard this from women who have kissed both men and women romantically. And we know there is often a tenderness to the way women make love. Then- I often check out peoples' bodies from a distance. I'll decide I think a person is sexy before I can even tell whether it's a woman or a man (it's not always easy to tell from behind). And I've seen women in tight jeans bend over in front of several people. I looked too. Why? Because it's hard not to. Women have beautiful butts. And incredible curves. We often say that we admire this for fashion reasons (watch Isiac Misrahi fondling the boobs of sometimes shocked women) and Jack on Will & Grace is always talking about boobs. Women are sexy- God knows the heterosexual male population love to talk abou that. It's all a matter of plugging into that.

Our sexual orientation is kind of about what qualities we find most attractive. It's not just body parts that turn us on. Chemistry is generated by lots of things. Attitude, voice, smell, charisma, confidence. And I'm not just saying this because it seems true. I'm going to be very blunt now: I've gotten hard-ons over women before (and "done something"* about that). Not often, but enough times to say so. Hell, I think we know rhythm and movement on things like a bus or a washing machine can make a person horny (John Waters has theories on both of these things- that boring places and activities make our minds wander). Everytime we get confused about something isn't a reason to think something means more than it probably does. However, the reason I say that is because I don't really believe in bisexuality. Experimentation, yes. But I don't believe a person actually is turned on by both genders equally.

* "Doing something" = masturbating

I'm eating caramel from the package. It is very boring. How about you lovelies use your gaydars (first set them to fruit fly lipstick half-lezzie) and try to stereotype me?

Toys and sexuality, hum hum hum. I played with "girl's toys" and "boy's toys", so by that logic, is it inevitable that I swing both ways? Probably not, not really. The connection is loose at best, and generally speaking, toys don't determine anything. I know more tomboys than I can count that are straighter than yardsticks.

When I was a young child, a female cousin the same age as myself died from leukemia. Her mother then gave me many of her items. The deceased cousin's brother cried and cried because I was taking away things like...

- A pink bookcase
- A pink toy box
- "Cinderella" on VHS
- A mobile gymnastics doll
- Hair accessories

Josh is the same cousin that I used to dress as a girl because he asked for it. He's also the same boy whose favorite color has always been pink. He is now a teenager who talks in a voice higher pitched than my own.

Is Josh gay? Everyone who meets him suspects it. Still, he's had his share of girlfriends. Whether they were "cover up" or not, as someone who has known him all his life, I would say he probably doesn't know the answer to his sexual orientation himself.

Nick Bryant wrote:To be honest, if your concerned about your sexuality the only question you should really ask is "am I sexually attracted to men?". What you play with as a child doesn't influence your orientation. Not ALL gays play with dolls and some straight boys do but that doesn't determine their sexuality.
Oh, I knew that. I've been trying to get a girlfriend for a few months. Reading everyone else's stories just had me thinking.

I'm 19.

And in the case of the rest of your post, I'm pretty sure I'm straight. You just can never be too sure about anything these days.

Blech. Wearing socks means I'm wearing shoes, and I HATE wearing shoes! I'm usually either barefoot or wearing sandals.
