Thanks, Old Fish Tale for another review! *read it . . . and is anticipating this release with each passing day*

At least that review made it seem decently good . . . not like theatrical-perfection good or horribly-buring-in-Heck bad . . . just a plain-nice good sums it up so far.

Still, I am looking forward to this, and I plan on reviewing it once I finish watching it . . . sometime next Tuesday.

One Week Left! Hooray!

WOW... what a horrible movie...The villain (if you can even call her that) was pathetic. The story line was not original at all, nor was it a good prequel...The only thing we learned that we didn't know before was how Ariel's mother died... They should have went an entirely different direction, excluding Marina del Ray and including Ursula and her transformation into a sea witch. Flounder was like a completely different character and was much more annoying than he is in the original film. And the cheap computer graphics in some scenes (especially the music box of Triton and Athena) were horrible. Overall, huge letdown, glad it's the last of the cheap se/pre- quels

Another 'The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning' review!
I'm feeling better & better about this release. Looks like I'll be getting TLM AB & Nightmare Before Christmas next week. I'm glad it's been so slow the last month with almost nothing for me to buy. I'm really jazzed about next Tuesday now. And the Disney Movie Rewards points are a nice bonus that will give me enough points for a sculpture I've been dying to get.

THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES!

I'll upload Old Fish Tale's findings to YouTube soon- I have to watch them first! Thanks so much, and I hope y'all like the first five minutes as much as I do! Sorta LQ, though.

OH MY GOD- I just watched the entire five minutes, and my eyes got all watery, an amazing opening scene. Can't say much about the animation but from what I could make out, it's a really powerful introduction.

Oh yeah, and I hate to say "I told you so", but see- that mermaid was so not Ariel, and is in fact, the mermaid that Disney Duster and myself pointed out. ;)

I see what JDCB1986 meant about horrible CGI on the music box. It looks unfinished and out of place. And she dies to save a music box? That's like a mother dying to grab a ring. Seriously that was really stupid. It started off well enough. Though 5 minutes was not enough for me to get emotionally attached to Athena. 15 minutes would have been better for an intro to Athena. 5 minutes was not enough. Seriously, I don't feel anything about her dying. Mufasa's death was sad. Bambi's mother's dead was traumatic. This felt like, "You stupid **** your daughters are safe, get down to them and console them!"
If she was only saving her daughter and not some little box, that is a major sacrifice. Similar as to how Bambi's mom dies. But her kids are safe and she lingers to get a box. I for one am disappointed in the writers. And WTF did the ship crash in the first place? They take the loot and crash their ship? Did they not see the gigantic rocks out of the water? These are pirates...sea-faring men who should know how to steer a boat. And they run straight into a rock with Athena there and she essentially becomes roadkill...or boatkill? Not sure what you would call it.

Now, the fact she killed herself grabbing the music box, explains pretty well why Triton hates music and tosses the box. His wife died to get the very thing he gave to her and in a way, he feels guilty because of it. Even though its her own damn fault she's dead. I just had visions of her risking her life to save her daughters. She saved one of her daughters, but didn't risk her life till she went for a damn music box.

Hate me all you want for being so sacrilegious, but as a parent myself, if my daughter is safe, I don't give a damn about the safety of monetary things. That is like a car is about to hit your kid and you pull them out of the way, but drop your cell phone and you run back in front of the car to get it.

I agree with you completely, but here's how I see this (note: I haven't seen the movie):

Humans have the tendency to really value material objects. Most of their time its because of monetary value (It costs a fortune!), but many times its because of the moral and human value. Or to put it simply, that article represents that person's memories, life and even accomplishments, wishes and dreams.

When something holds that much value people WILL go as far as to risk their lives to save it.

In Athena's case, that music box represents her love for King Triton and the daughters that were born out of that relationship. It encases everything she cherishes in her life and might mean something to her daughters when they grow older, or could even become an heirloom that symbolizes the love that grew out of their family.

If you think about this, maybe that's why Athena risked her life to save the music box.

Again, I do agree that no one should risk their lives for a material possession, and that it would have been more significant had it been Ariel the one in danger.

Very well put, and you make a great point.

I didn't look at the clips , but I couldn't resist looking at the opening and man, that was one really sad scene (storywise).
I thought it was as sad as Bambi's mother. Only less screen time for Athena.
But, as much as I love it, why didn't she just jump away?
She just looked at the ship.
I don't have a problem with that she gets the music box, but that was a really bad timing!
And we now know that the mysterious mermaid that jumps out of the water ISN'T Ariel. (She does look like it though...)

Ow, and
another 'The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning' review.

Siren you've made my day for sure

I agree about the music box, it does have that unfinished look to it.

Vermin Friends: What did you find so amazing about the opening?

Wow a whole 5 minutes with Athena before she gets crushed from stupidity, I'd shed a tear over dropping an ice cream cone faster than I would for that "tragic" moment  Sebastien sort of annoyed me with the voice over, I think us audience could piece things together for ourselves instead of having him drone on.

Anyways, 100% agreement with Siren on this.
