Am I the only one who finds it kinda strange how they put the trailer in front of a rival studio's film. Thought they would have had it with Up last month or with G- Force next month. From what I've actually heard, our projectionists at work have been told to NOT add the trailer for Christmas Carol to the Up playlist, which doesn't make sense.
Actually to me it kinda does. Ice Age 3 is a highly anticipated film. People will go out and see it. It makes absolute sense to premiere the trailer in front of it. Up might be popular but the hype factor has slowed down, meaning less chances of people seeing it.MrIncredible wrote:Am I the only one who finds it kinda strange how they put the trailer in front of a rival studio's film. So to sum it up...
Ice Age 3: People will see it so they will learn about the movie there
Up: People still see it but many more might miss the trailer

Not much of the picture has been rolled out yet, but a few snippets have been screened:
New York press and movie critics got their first glimpse at an animated Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge in a presentation of 3-D footage from Disney’s “A Christmas Carol” at the Regal E-Walk Theatre this week.
Two scenes were shown from the performance capture-driven film, directed by Robert Zemeckis (”Polar Express“), along with a montage of clips and a teaser trailer ...
... [One] scene shown sees Jacob Marley’s ghost crashing in on Scrooge during the night. It is here that the film shows off its high tech special wizardry. Thanks to the 3D effects work, Marley’s ghost hovers off the screen and glows with incandescent color ...

I read some other good things from those screenings as well. The two scenes seem really great. I wish I could have been there to see it.

Here's a cam-version of the italian trailer! (gosh, disney! wouldn't it be easier if you just release the trailer online?!?!?)

Loved it! But I KNOW I'll love it more when I see it in proper quality...

The 3D trailer was attached to the screening of G-Force I just came back from seeing. The trailer was AMAZING, stunning! It got me really excited for the film. The 3D effects were terrific- definitely a movie you'll want to spend the extra few dollars for to see it in 3D! It showed all the ghosts, and that's what it focused on. Of course it showed Scrooge, too. Excellent! Hopefully it'll be attached to everyone's screening of G-Force when it opens!

Disney's A Christmas Carol
I saw this in 3-D in front of G-Force as well.
Well, the animation looked stiff, and I thought "Oh, it must be because it's motion capture."
Aside from that, Scrooge's eyes were like, not expressive.
You can hear and tell it's Jim Carrey in his voice-acting of Scrooge, his trademarks are there, but if his face doesn't register his personality, his humour...it's bad. Everyone can tell it's Jim Carrey by voice, anyway, so getting his personality in his face would be good. But getting any personality in that face is needed.
It didn't look too great to me, but I still want to see this because of all the other cool things about it.

Disney's A Christmas Carol
Well, the fact it's "A Christmas Carol", a classic story with cool ghosts so I like it, it has Jim Carrey, who I like, but the idea of him as Scrooge is quite different, and then it's computer animated and in 3-D, and by Disney. And the designs and effects of the ghosts look super cool.
But I've never ever liked motion capture, and this trailer proved it still looks bad.
It bothers me so much to know it's Jim Carrey but not see any of his expressions in his face. But I hardly see any expression at all in his face, any...life.
Like the "corpse" complaint about motion capture, only, c'mon, this is Jim Carrey, and they said they fixed such things!

All the coverage I read from Comic-Con was just awesome. People were really impressed with the footage shown across the board. I heard the visuals were amazing and the characters just look great. I think this movie is perfect for Mo-Cap and it is still too early to judge the film, considering we have hardly seen much from it so far.

The Christmas Carol Train Tour visited New Orleans today, and I was able to attend on its first day here. It will be in town for another two days before heading to another 21 of 39 cities.
Here is a mini-review, which may contain spoilers of the train tour for anyone wishing to attend without knowing what to expect.
First, you enter the train itself. There are 4 railroad cars worth of exhibits that go into detail about the making of the movie. Some of the cars are divided into more than one room, devoted to different aspects of the film. This reminded me of the exhibits that promote upcoming WD Feature Animation and Pixar films on the Animation attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios at WDW, although the exhibits inside the train went into more detail.
The first display showcased character design - what they would look like, who would be playing them in the film, etc. Monitors in this room showed a continuous loop of a short featurette about the actors and characters.
The next room showcased the animated settings and background art of the film, with another featurette. These first two rooms also displayed original Dickens handwritten manuscripts and rare, original editions of A Christmas Carol and other Dickens literary works, on loan from the Charles Dickens museum in England.
The next display showcased the actual 3-dimensional maquettes used to create many the characters, as well as 3-dimensional models of some of the buildings and sets of the film. This was also accompanied by an explanatory featurette.
Next came a room devoted to explaining the motion capture process itself - accompanied by a featurette and some footage of the actors' performances.
This was followed by interactive exhibits where you could touch a screen to explore places in London visited in the film, and an exhibit where guests could have their picture "morphed" into a character.
After the train tour is a seperate inflatable building, which from a distance looks fairly convincing as a Victorian brick structure. Inside, guests are given 3-D glasses and shown what is basically an extended, 10-minute trailer, which after an introduction shows large segments of two sequences of the film - nephew Fred visiting Scrooge at his business, and Scrooge being visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley.
I really enjoyed getting a chance to experience something like this outside of the parks, and for anyone interested in the film, I would highly recomend visiting this traveling exhibit - and it's completely free!

Ok so you know how I said I saw the trailer and that made me really excited for this movie... well, I just went to see Harry Potter in 3D and they showed the Christmas Carol trailer before hand and now having seen the trailer in 3D I'm REALLY excited for this movie. Truly, seeing the trailer in 2D vs. seeing it in 3D makes a world of difference and it looks like it's going to be a fun ride. Granted I'm biassed because I'm such a fan of the story itself, but it really does look fun. If you get the chance to experience it in 3D you'll see what I mean.
