wow, thanks for sharing. This film sounds better and better. And they havent even started to animate.rnrlesnar wrote:I figured I'd jump in since I'm from New Orleans. That pic of the "jazz festival" some keep talking about is not a jazz festival, its a Mardi Gras parade! Look at the float. Each parade has the crowning of a king and queen, so it's definitely appropriate to have Maddy as a princess/queen in New Orleans.

Oh yeah, kings and queens of parades are a big deal. It's all ceremonial of course, but their are elaborate Mardi Gras balls for many of different parades called "Krewes". I'm not sure if Disney will actually get the rights to use real parade names, but a big one is the "Krewe of Zulu" which is an all black parade that I believe was in existence in the 20's, probably way before. There is always a "Queen Zulu" and "King Zulu" and its two different people each year who get "crowned". It'll be interesting if the royalty aspect of the movie revolves around a mardi gras parade.PatrickvD wrote:wow, thanks for sharing. This film sounds better and better. Look like Disney is going back to what it's known for traditional animation. I know that the traditional animation has been gone for the last 3 years since the last film "Home on the Range" or maybe "Teacher's Pet: The Movie" (that was next to the last feature).
"The Frog Princess" would be the next animated film for 2009. That will be the first animated feature in 5 years. Disney will not make CGI animation. Disney had enough with CGI animated features like "Chicken Little", "The Wild" and the upcoming "Meet the Robinsons". Go back to Pixar to do all these CGI animated films.
As you probably know, this is the first Disney fairy tale since "Aladdin". There are any Disney animated films based on fairy tales like "Snow White", "Cinderella", "Sleeping Beauty", "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast".

I hope you're right Simba3. I'd love to be proven wrong and have The Frog Princess be a critical and financial smash hit for Disney. Right now, to me, it seems as a huge gamble. I guess we'll see in 2009 when it hits theatres.Simba3 wrote: Ok, it is quite obvious that ALL of these pictures of the Princess, Maddy, are completely different, meaning that they are most likely just concept art. As someone has already stated, just think of how some of Disney princesses were originally drawn. Some of the concept art pictures for the other princesses are rediculous looking, but the end Princess turned out to be wonderful. Give Disney a little credit guys, with animation and directing veterans Musker and Clements on board, I'm sure Maddy will turn out just fine!

Mulan and Brother Bear are the only ones I really care for that you listed. Most of the others are all "good," but nothing all that AMAZING.... if you ask me.goofystitch wrote:

Lol! You just mentioned all Disney's 90s films, save for The Rescuers Down Under.mariadny wrote:I think the best Disney's 90's film are Little mermaid, Beauty and the beast, Aladdín, Lion King, Pocahontas, Hunchback, Hercules, Mulan and Tarzán...
All this films are great
Oh, and *tsk tsk* ... The Little Mermaid is not a 90s film. You should know that.

Very true. Some people actually say that Who Framed Roger Rabbit is the real start of Disney's 3rd golden age. I soooo want to see that film. I remember watching it on Italian TV when I was a little kid. I've forgotten it of course, and it was all in Italian, so I didn't understand a lot of it.mariadny wrote:Little mermaid is noy a 90s film, yes, but I think it is the same golden age

i think averything sounds perfect, but i think allan menken should have been hired to write the songs for this movie, he already knows how to do it, randy newman hits it every once in a while, the only movie(pixar) that had good songs from him was toy story and all the others were good but doesn't live up to "under the sea, "a whole new world", or"go the distance"

Lassester about FROG PRINCESS
"We're here to make a big announcement. I'm very excited about this: we are going back to hand-drawn animation (aplausos). We are also going back to classic Disney fairy tale (aplausos). But this one is an American fairy tale. It is called The frog princess. It's being written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements who did The little Mermaid and Aladdin and other great movies. And it's a fantastic, fantastic story. And I'm really proud to say that The frog princess takes place entirely in New Orleans (muchos aplausos). The movie is full of what the city has, it's got the jazz, it's got the Mardi Grass, it's got the voodoo spells, and it's got the soul folk singing alligator and it's great... The main character of the story, a main character whose name is ¿Maddy?... and I'm very very proud to announce that she is the very first african-american Disney princess (aplausos). Really proud and excited about this. This movie is gonna be a classic as you've never seen before. This is a musical, ladies and gentlemen. From the beginning to the end this is a musical. The music is written by Randy Newman (aplausos). He has already written a number of songs for these movie and I cannot wait for you to hear these songs"

I like how he refers to "Treasure Planet" as "other great movies" due to its poor box office records. I'm excited about this, but I like how Lassater deems it ok to already call it a classic when there hasn't even been any animation done yet. They don't even have voices cast! lol. It's being written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements who did The little Mermaid and Aladdin and other great movies.
