Ah, I loved A Troll In Central Park when I was little. Good times, good times.

If it were Don Bluth, I wouldn't mind as much. (I haven't seen ATiCP, but I actually like some other Don Bluth films...even though the only one I've seen in the past 15 years has been Anastasia, I grew up on his other early ones, and I've actually been researching him and his movies a lot lately...)

You're acting like Disney is THE only animated company that has the rights to refer their movies as "classics". Also where or when did Dreamwork say their animated movies aren't classics either?

A Troll in Central Park and Thumbelina are unwatchable. Just horrible. I grew up with The Pebble and the Penguin and Rock-A-Doodle, which is why I can stand them, but after recently watching them, I can assure you they're not much better. I saw Bartok the Magnificent once and it's crap when compared to Anastasia.

Everything else Don Bluth did (Banjo the Woodpile Cat, The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail, The Land Before Time, All Dogs Go to Heaven, Anastasia, and Titan A.E.) range from great to just good.

In all honesty, Bluth was making good films when Disney was making bad ones (not to mention his made money when Disney's didn't) but after The Little Mermaid came out, Bluth switched places and he started turning out stinkers while Disney was making the good movies. Bluth didn't recover until Anastasia.

Yes, I saw those videos. The funny thing is that the Nostalgia Critic review is the first time I saw Troll in YEARS, and couldn't believe how awful it was. Stanley is such an obnoxious character, perhaps THE worst Don Bluth character ever created (though the penguin from The Pebble and the Penguin comes pretty damn close). And the movie really did feel like its insulting children and their parents.

Nostalgia Chick also reviewed Anastasia. I agree with her for the most part, but I still love the movie. Like I have said already I like how it feels like a grand MGM musical.

The funny thing is that the Nostalgia Critic review is the first time I saw Troll in YEARS, and couldn't believe how awful it was. And the movie really did feel like its insulting children and their parents.

You mean insulting their intelligence? Feeding them crap?

You know...I'm not saying it's a great movie...but something about the evil troll queen trying to destroy the cute lovable troll that represents childhood, innocence, love, beauty, and good feeling...actually deeply upsets/affects me. I'd have to watch it again, but, the theme or message of the film may be a powerful one.

The Pebble and the Penguin looked really bad to me, and like the protagonist would annoy me, but I didn't see it.

But there's something about Don Bluth making these chubby childlike characters that end up rather annoying but still are about love and still the right thing to do is keep them alive because they are good people that represent childhood and innocence and love...

Just watched all 3, hilarious and spot on. I noticed the nostalgia chick picked up on the same thing I did (Bluth and Disney switching).

Yeah, her main beef with the movie was the historical inaccuracy, just like many people don't like The Prince of Egypt because it changes things from the Bible. Still, if you can let go of those preconceived ideas of what the story should be, they're really enjoyable movies.

I watched the nostalgia critic review We're Back: A Dinosaur's Story and it was painful to watch. He tore apart one of my all time favorite childhood movies and everything he said was true. It's a horrible movie where nothing makes sense from the start but I'm so clouded with nostalgia for that movie that I actually sat through it recently and still enjoyed it (even while noticing it badness).

Yeah, their intelligence. Look at it this way. Disney always included colorful sidekicks in his movies. Yeah, some of them were cute, but were tolerable and at times very complex and well developed (like, say, the mice in Cinderella or the enchanted objects in Beauty and the Beast). In Troll's case, the characters feel like a parody of the typical cute character. It's like the producers told Bluth "You know what? Kids are dumb, they'll watch anything cute. Just make... I don't know, cute little flowers with eyes as big as their heads, have them dance around for 2 hours and you got the job done". Not even the Family Guy Disney parody had characters as sickengly cute...AND IT WAS A CRASS PARODY!

Disney never did this. Yeah, there was cute stuff in the movies but never to the point of being insulting to the audience. He had them do interesting stuff, support the main character and at times add to the story. Troll in Central Park just does cute for the sake of being cute, and ends up being more annoying than endearing.

That's what I meant when I said the film insulted kid's intelligence.

jpanimation: MY GOD! YOU LOVED WE'RE BACK AS A KID TOO???? I WORSHIPPED the movie as a kid, to the point where it rivaled my love of the fab four Disney films. But yeah, I saw the movie as an adult and couldn't believe how bad it was. The sad part is that the movie has a good enough story than if I could I would remake it (crazy I know).

And yes, Nostalgia Chick's beef with Anastasia was historically inaccurate. I agree that if you ignore that fact the movie becomes entertaining, and like I already said its enjoyable in an MGM musical kind of way. I take it she must hate half of the movies Disney has made considering how they take liberties with the story (she already reviewed Pocahontas and Mulan and really hates Little Mermaid so I am right it seems).

That's still happening? I thought Dreamworks scrapped the potential for a show after the movie didn't make as big of a splash in the box office as they were hoping.

I watched Megamind the other night. I thought I'd enjoy it, but got into it much more than I thought I would. I thought the facial expressions of the animation was top-notch, and really liked the story and characters. I've never seen an alien dude with such pretty eyes!

Between this and Despicable Me (obviously not Dreamworks but something I also enjoyed more than I thought I would) I'm wondering if we'll see more features focusing on a bad guy. Can't wait to pick both of them up on Blu-ray (now that I finally have a player)!

You are not the only one. I've seen a lot of people come out surprised by it. They all agree that it is clichéd as all hell, some of the humor is hit or miss and that it isn't Dreamworks's best movie to date. But nearly everyone has enjoyed it. I'm already seeing fanart of Megamind pop up on deviantart, especially RoxieXMegamind artwork.

I liked it too...suprisingly I followed the story more than the laughs....it wasn't anything that made me laugh about it but it told a good story with a message.....I think Dreamworks is picking up its game on movies...
