Wii is here!
I'm not spending that much money on a system that gives me nothing but sore eyes. Again, this has nothing to do with the graphics of the Wii. I really couldn't care less. It's just that the low definition will look bad on a tv designed for high definition.yamiiguy wrote:why do you need it to look good? it's the gameplay that countsnordic wrote: I wish it worked that way, but from what I hear it doesn't. Well, because I'm feeling frisky, I'm off to put a deposit on a Wii preorder.
Our local Toys r Us is throwing in Zelda, a bonus controller, a carry case and the sports game of course.
Wish me luck!

Good luck, Loomis. Just make sure you wear pants, and I think you'll be alright.Loomis wrote:Well, because I'm feeling frisky, I'm off to put a deposit on a Wii preorder.

Congratulations to all of you who are going to be playing with your Wii, very soon! I'm jealous. As much as I want to pick it up, I just can't, until after Christmas. I spent the money I had saved for a Wii on getting my computer fixed, and with Christmas coming up, I need to buy gifts for my loved ones. While I'm glad to have my computer working, I'm also sad, because this will be the first Nintendo home console launch, since the NES, that I've missed! I've been able to pick up each new system (Super NES, Nintendo 64, and GameCube) at launch.
Oh, well, my time will come! I can't wait!

As it turned out, Toys R Us no longer had that deal, and claimed they had never heard of it (despite it being on their website, I should have printed out the deal). They were actually going to charge me nearly TWICE the price ($720 as opposed to $399 AU) for all the things I mentioned above. I wound up ordering through another dealer, where I didn't get the Too Good To Be True Deal, but I did get a pretty good offer several hundred dollars cheaper than what Toys R Us were offering me.MadonnasManOne wrote:Good luck, Loomis. It's 04:05 AM. I shall begin my Target "campout" shortly. Wish me luck!
Edit: 07:46 AM. I got home about a half hour ago. I managed to get a preorder ticket; I was number 15 out of 30. Whew! The tent people at the front of the line turned out to be high school buddies (well, more my Dearest Other Half's friends than mine) and we chatted for a bit. Target will be open soon, so I'm going to go claim my console!

Got up at 4:30 am (Central time) and headed to Target after missing out on Wal-Mart's deal. Since it's so cold in Minnesota, most people were in their cars. I ended up in line at 5:30 as the number two person so I got a ticket. They had 24 systems and all of them were given out well before 8:00. I went back at 8:00 and got my Wii. Controllers went like crazy and they ran out of extra remotes and nunchucks.
They only had 4 games for sale but I had already pre-ordered and paid for an extra controller combo and Zelda at Gamestop so no concerns. I'll be picking them up after 11:00 today. Now I just need to wait as the Wii is the family's gift this Christmas so it won't be opened until then.

From what I saw in the Sunday Ads, most (actually, I think ALL) stores are selling the Wii for $249.99. (Including BestBuy, CircuitCity, and Target). Someone can totally correct me if i'm wrong, being that I'm not really a huge gamer that I used to be.TheNikki wrote:Does anyone know how much the system is selling for at stores like WalMart and Target? ... my Wii hates Mii. It won't Update ... I keep getting an Error 32002, which when I looked it up online only says "This Error occurs when you try to Update before Nov 19", or something to that effect.
In other news ... Wii Sports was a lot of fun this morning. I beat my Sister at Tennis ... lost to her Boyfriend in Golf ... then came back to win Bowling and Boxing.

Oh, I am so jealous of everyone getting their Wii! I want one, so bad. I just came back from several stores, as I was going into Circuit City and Best Buy, anyway. All of them were sold out of their Wii stock. Best Buy (both stores) got 102 systems, each. They sold out right after the door opened. Circuit City had signs posted that they were out of stock. Same with Toy's R Us, Target, Wal-Mart, EB Games, and GameStop. I wasn't going to pick one up, as I don't have the funds, but, I did want to see if they had any, and none of them did. Even games, extra controllers, Wii Points cards, and other accessories were sold out. Amazing!yanya wrote:... my Wii hates Mii. It won't Update ... I ended up at EB Games, to play their Wii. They still only had Excite Truck in as the demo. I handed over my drivers license, and the lady gave me the Wii controller. I played around with the system settings, and then asked if I could do the update on their system, as they had never even connected the online portion. She said that was fine. I let it automatically find a connection, which it did, then it went to update. It stayed that way for several minutes, before coming back with that Error 32002. Apparently, every Wii has to be updated when making the online connection, and Nintendo has said that since so many people are updating, some people will have to keep trying, until the "rush" dies down. So, yanya, you might try later, or call their toll-free number, and see if they can give any advice.
Oh, I don't think I'm going to be able to wait until after Christmas! I know I'm getting a Best Buy Gift Card from my Mom, for Christmas (because she asked what I wanted), but, I just am too excited. I want my Wii now!
It finally Updated about half an hour agoMadonnasManOne wrote:It stayed that way for several minutes, before coming back with that Error 32002. If the game is created in a widescreen format, then it is my understanding that it will letterbox on a 4:3 television. In fact, I understand that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is this way.DarthPrime wrote:Can the Wii letterbox on a 4:3 TV, or do you need a 16:9 TV to do widescreen gaming?
By the way, I was in Best Buy, earlier today, and they have a couple of promotional items for Nintendo Wii. First, they have a Launch Guide, that also has some coupons. The second item is a free DVD, which explains the system, the many things it can do (including the different Wii Channels), and has quite a few game trailers. It's very awesome, and will have to tide me over until I get my Wii!

Indeed. According to the Gamespot review:MadonnasManOne wrote:If the game is created in a widescreen format, then it is my understanding that it will letterbox on a 4:3 television. In fact, I understand that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is this way.
Like most other Wii games, you can play this one in 480p and widescreen, if you're so equipped.

So you don't watch DVDs either? 'Cuz a DVD played with a progressive scan player should be the same resolution as most Wii games. Although very few HDTVs impress me, even with an HD signal to work with, SD and ED stuff seems to look no worse when viewed on an HDTV. Besides, if your HDTV is anything like most out there, it's only 1366x768p max; which isn't all that much more than the ED signal the Wii is capable of sending. It would probably look bad on a real 1920x1080p display (unless it was a CRT, of course), but a 480p signal shouldn't look too bad on most HDTVs.nordic wrote:I'm not spending that much money on a system that gives me nothing but sore eyes. Yanya, I haven't heard back. Is your Wii now working, or are you still having trouble?

WiiConnect 24 Update Breaking Systems?
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get a broken Wii.
by Micah Seff
November 20, 2006 - We have received word from numerous sources that running the initial WiiConnect 24 update on the Wii has had a tendency to cause a recurring error code. Several error codes have been reported so far, but the most prevalent of them are 110213 and 32002. We contacted Nintendo about this issue, and they filled us in on what you should do if you find yourself in this predicament.
Currently, Nintendo has two options in place to resolve the problem. If you do not have any data saved to your system that is important to keep, then you can contact Nintendo customer service and they will ship a new console to you in 3-4 business days. However, if you do have important data saved to your system, then things get a little trickier. Data like game saves and Miis are not disastrous to lose, but Virtual Console data is. While Virtual Console games are re-downloadable should you delete them, the data saved on your console regarding which games you have downloaded is tied to your system. In this situation, option #2 is the way to go.
Option #2 requires that Nintendo send you a shipping label which should take 4-10 business days. Once you receive the shipping label, you can use it to send the console to Nintendo for repairs, after which they will send it back to you. Sadly, this process takes 8-12 business days, meaning that if you choose option #2, you will be Wii-less for a good long while.
Nintendo could not comment on how widespread this problem is, but did say that they are currently looking into fixes that can be done without Nintendo replacing or repairing the console itself. If you find yourself receiving either of these error codes, or any others, please visit Nintendo's customer service website
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully, your Wii is working. However, if not, hopefully this will help you. Maybe I should be glad that I didn't get one of the launch units. Hopefully, by the time I pick up my Wii, these issues will be resolved!
