I am so happy to hear that 101 Dalmatians is scheduled for a Platinum Edition release in 2008. Granted the information has not been 100% confirmed yet, it says the information comes from a reliable source. This is amazing news, and I for one am really glad to hear it. I was really upset when I heard they might be re-releasing SNow White in fall of 2008. I think the best idea would be to complete the Platinum Edition line before beginning to re-release any of the earlier titles. Awesome. Here is how I anticipate the upcoming Platinum releases!
Spring 2007: Peter Pan
Fall 2007: The Jungle Book
Spring 2008: Pinocchio
Fall 2008: 101 Dalmatians
Spring 2009: Fantasia
Fall 2009: Sleeping Beauty (or visa versa on the 2009 releases)
Spring 2007: Peter Pan
Fall 2007: The Jungle Book
Spring 2008: Pinocchio
Fall 2008: 101 Dalmatians
Spring 2009: Fantasia
Fall 2009: Sleeping Beauty (or visa versa on the 2009 releases)

Yay! I am so happy that 101 Dalmations is re-scheduled again! I was really quite disappointed when it went off the schedule, but now that it's back on again, I have renewed faith the the series will be released with it. I hope that the single season of Jungle Cubs is released alongside The Jungle Book as well. Hooray for Disney! They have my belief in them now, what with releasing all of these season sets of classic Disney animation, tons of DCOMs, a lot of Disney Channel DVDs, all of these substantial new editions of Disney clasis, like Narnia, and these new Vintage and Treasures DVDs with Mickey and Oswald, and Disneyland and Silly Symphonies on them. Ah, gotta love Disney!

A Blu-Ray release of Snow White in 2008...
Not DVD. Eww. Buying DVDs in 2008. How archiac. How retro.
Did anyone not find it odd that, of that list of
"Titles Coming To Blu-Ray" Snow White was suspiciously missing.

Missing, of course,
because it will be the first original Disney Classic to have the Blu-Ray treatment.
BluRay & HD-DVDs will be all the rage in 2008.
You may also notice that everything on that list above are
"recent" classics. Recent meaning they were re-released on Platinum DVD,
digitally restored & made nice n fresh.
And in the case of Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin & The Lion King,
thanks to their recent DVD "remastering" they are more than ready for a Blu-Ray digital conversion.
You'll notice also that Sleeping Beauty is pictured during that preview, primarily because it has been cleaned up in readiness for the Platinum Re-Release ( and will be cleaned up even more for its subsequent Blu-Ray release ).
The primary reason for having Nemo & Monsters Inc & all those crisp looking Pixar movies as their first run releases is to justify having just bought a Blu-Ray player by showing your wife how "clear the picture is"
What better way than those Pixar classics to highlight the crispness & clarity of a new format?
But what becomes of the classics like Sleeping Beauty & Snow White?
Shameful DVDs will be out out out.
But Blu-Ray will be In In In!
Once they are able to make the 65 year old Fantasia look crisp & amazing on a High Definition screen, you'll see it on Disney Blu-Ray.
Snow White on Blu-Ray in 2008 keeps the release in check with the
7 Year Morotorium rule, you see.
Time to save your pennies for Blu-Ray Players people
( or shameful PS3s ) if you're that way inclined.
Hooray for Disney Woo.

The sooner 101 Dalmatians gets a fixed release date, the better. It's a film very near and dear to my affections, and I feel that a 2-disc PE is long overdue. I'd been looking forward to receiving it in 2007, and was disappointed when it was pulled in favour of Peter Pan (still a great film, of course, but I'd had my heart set upon 101...)
Disney currently seem to be in the habit of overlooking this particular animated classic, despite the fact that it's arguably among their most well-known. Whatever small quantities of dalmatian merchandise I find in Disney stores these days pertains almost exclusively to the live action version (which I'd hoped would be long forgotten by now
). Their animated counterparts are almost nowhere to be seen.

I don't think they are overlooking it so much as using a marketing strategy. It makes so much sense to release Peter Pan now because of the pirates crave (which I ranted about enough on the other thread). Remember: they made the original Platinum schedule way before the first Pirates movie. They couldn't have projected or anticipated the public's demand from that long ago. They had to change their plans according to the public's tastes. That is what marketing is all about!Caballero Girl wrote:

I think Disney thinks of 101 Dalmatians as a fine wine. The longer it sits in the vault the better it will do when it is finally released. I think 101 Dalmatians is probably one of Disney's strongest titles. Just wait, after kids get tired of their pirate patches, princess growns, and fairy wings they will beg mom and dad to by them the full set of Dalmatians from Disney: all 101!
My avatar is from Tony's Town Square Restaurant. What else would we do over a plate of spaghetti with meatballs?

No it won't. Hercules hasn't had a decent DVD release yet. The limited issue and gold collection releases were non-anamorphic.toonaspie wrote:Well I think they shouldve stayed with their orginal schedule (like before they decided to move Peter Pan's to a very early date). After the Jungle Book comes out, 101 Dalmations will be the only Disney Animated Feature that has not been given a decent DVD release (When I say decent DVD release I refer to all releases that are no Limited Editions). Do you get what I mean?
For that matter, you can add The Black Cauldron to the list because that only had a barebones non-anamorphic release too.

Plot: This vid. has physicaly gone to the dogs and Cruella, they're my next stars in Cruella De Vil while serving as a promo for 101 Dalmations Platinum Edition.
