dvdjunkie wrote:LittleMerman, I hope you are planning on buying those titles all Widescreen. I noticed that you have a lot of full screen titles............is there any reason why?

Erm.. the, uh, 2 out of 12 DVDs I traded in which were Fullscreen do not matter to me. 1.) I received the "Chicago": Razzle-Dazzle Edition for Christmas and, 2.) I hadn't even viewed "Alex & Emma".

I'm just one of those people who really don't care. I try to pick up Widescreen, mainly depending on the movie ("The Lord of the Rings" = Widescreen, "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" = Fullscreen) and what I will, or will not, miss.

In anyone's opinion, if you were a person with a relatively small TV, what would you choose - the Fullscreen, or Widescreen version of "The Passion of the Christ"? I'm ::gasp:: leaning towards FS, if not only because I 1.) First saw the film in that format, and 2.) Do not really need to see anymore of that film :P ***

*tlm

***If you choose to give an answer to my question, I'd rather it be answered in a way that you put yourself in my shoes instead of "Fullscreen! Oh..mi...god, it cuts off 43%+ of the picture!" < I realize that, and I'd just like some suggestions based on what I would miss from "The Passion".

Many DVD players have a zoom feature. If yours does, you can simply zoom the widescreen version so it fills the screen.

Based on my experience, however, widescreen movies look good on almost any size screen. I have watched them on a 17-inch computer monitor and a 24-inch TV, and they look great.

I haven't seen The Passion of the Christ, but I can make these general points in favor of seeing it in widescreen. The parts that are cut off will often let you see more characters in the same shot, so you get multiple reactions and/or viewpoints into the same event. The widescreen framing also gives the full context of a scene. Just because something isn't front and center doesn't mean it's not important.

Keep in mind that you will probably upgrade your TV at some point in the future, and the less MAR films you own, the less regrets you'll have about those purchases.

Very well spoken BrandonH. That's exactly the reply I was looking for. I have chosen Widescreen, which I was planning on doing. I asked my friend, who's Mom owns a Christian bookstore if she could get it for me for my birthday, and she wanted to know which format I pleased.

When I really thought about it, I pick Widescreen, but, I still have nothing against Fullscreen - on select movies, though.

Then 2 days after I bought Bewitched Season 3 (ahh, so great!) for $18.65, SouthPark Season 7 for $18.67, and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey for $4.69. :)

Chicken Little $13.87+tax (after using Trade & Save Points at Zellers)

And ironically (with CL's cover art that is)

Men In Black: Deluxe Edition $3.87+tax (was to have been using Trade & Save Points but they forgot to take off the points that I wanted to use for this film but still took the $10 off)

So that all comes to a grand total of $23.40. Not Bad I must say. :D

Hopefully I'm not turned into the Ann Coultor communist witch hunt police,
but I purchased Battleship Potemkin.

Maybe I can see if DePalma can rip-off other film-makers than Hitchcock.

King Kong: 2-Disc Special Edition with free Raisinetes, PLUS the King Kong Production Sketch Journal, which was given out free to Reward Zone members who purchased King Kong. I paid $22.99 plus tax, because I forgot to bring the ad for the Target Price match. Then, I used a $5.00 Reward Zone certificate, so I actually paid $17.99 plus tax.

I also picked up more Reward Zone points, because I picked up Wondershowzen: First Season DVD, and a Mike Costas CD for a couple of friends.

It was a good day at Best Buy for using the Reward Zone Card:

King Kong 2-Disc Special Edition (Widescreen) - price matched with Wal-Mart $19.96.

A Sound of Thunder - Widescreen and I think I was the only person who saw this in the theaters. Not a great movie, but the cast was super and the special effects were truly amazing.

The Sci-Fi Guys - this is a Best Buy exclusive that is quite the documentary. It features everyone from Ray Harryhausen to Peter Jackson and all of those screen-giants in between. Scenes from all the classic Sci-Fi movies of the past almost-100 years. Really a good film Watched this when I got home today.

Didn't get the candy, because I am diabetic, and don't need that stuff anyway. In three and a half years I have lost over 200 pounds and I want to keep it off.

TV Guide Presents Kids' Classic Shows - which features twelve episodes of tv shows of the 50's including "Sky King", "Annie Oakley", "The Lone Ranger", "Lassie", "Sheena, Queen of the Jungle", "The Adventures of Superman", "Cowboy G-Men", and many more.

Collected lots of points from Best Buy. I love my Reward Zone card.

Went to Circuit City and picked up some movies on their 2 for $10 sale:

The Bone Collector", "Kalifornia", "Bat 21", and "Robocop". While there I also picked up King Kong (1976) and King Kong Lives (1986) just for the heck of it. Just like movies that don't challenge me, but still entertain me.

Best Buy will accept a printout of a store's website price in a price-match. I did this with the CircuitCity.com price for Chicken Little, and it went without a hitch. Of course, this assumes the website and store are charging the same price.
