Anyway, I absoluteley do LOVE this cover! The colors are the most gorgeous colors for any of the covers yet, and Ariel maybe be slightly young looking, but the rest of the characters seem to look good(then again, I can't really tell since they are so small). The only real problems are that Sebastians's eyes should not be yellow and Ursula's skin should be more of a blue/gray shade than that bright purple(watch the movie and you'll see that her skin is more of a blue-purple). Ursula shouldn't be so close to Flounder, too. But everything aside, amazingly wonderful fantastic cover!

Eh. I'm not that crazy about it. I mean, it's acceptable, and the background colors are nice and all, but it seems unbalanced. Ariel's off to the left... the bottom half is jam-packed and the top half is kind of empty. And it may not actually be clipart, but it sure looks like it (the bottom half does, anyways). I don't know, it just doesn't impress me in the way that the LatT cover does, but then, I know that it will change and I am glad that Ursula is included. Don't pelt me!

I love it in general, especially the bottom half - aquatic colors and a great artistic look
But the ship looks a bit rushed and the colors they used seem off - it looks much better in the film. Besides that, I really like the under water world they made and the fact that Ursula and Triton both made the cover - it looks awesome. Now the wait is even harder

Pelt you? I agree with you fully. Ursula is a very important character (as well as my favorite in the film) and she should definitely be on the cover. I thought it was great that all of the other villains have made it (with the exception of Gaston, but that's another topic) and I think they should be there.AwallaceUNC wrote: but then, I know that it will change and I am glad that Ursula is included. I chose "love it" for the poll, but I would say it's more like "like". It's a nice cover and all, better than some, but I still like LATT better.
At least it's not disappointing!!
I'm also looking forward to seeing the Gift set cover art. It's one that I might actually consider getting!

Dislike it for the following reasons:
1. It's too messy. What I mean is there's too much going on, and the theming suffers from it. When you look at the covers for Snow White, Bambi, Beauty and the Beast, you've got a nice clean look to it. Little Mermaid has too much going on in the cover. There's too much on the front. It's all jumbled.
2. The color palette. Whenever I think of The Little Mermaid, I always think of the wonderful color motif they used during the Under the Sea sequence. This color palette reminds me of a tacky Florida tourist trap, where they sell you seaweed shaped salt-and-pepper shakers and jewelry boxes smothered in tiny shells. The color palette simply has too much of the tacky aqua look to it.
3. The characters. Naturally when one thinks of The Little Mermaid, they think of...the little mermaid. And as much as I love Flounder and Sebastian, their placement looks forced. Of course, every Platinum cover always has the hero/heroine, villain, and the supporting characters. But the placement just doesn't look very fitting. I'd have preferred if they went with the style used in Beauty and the Beast and Lady and the Tramp's covers. They had the title on the top, giving a much more natural look to character placement in the center and bottom. Make it reminiscent of the original Limited Issue DVD and have Ursula hanging about above the title (though somewhat larger and more menacing). Put Ariel in the front and center, the same pose, but a little smaller. Have Sebastian and Flounder in one of the bottom two corners. Triton could be saved for the back, as can Prince Eric (who's nowhere on the front cover).
4. For god's sake, take them out of the sea! The whole idea of the movie is that she wants to be part of another world, let that theme be seen in the cover art. Heck, the Black Diamond VHS got it right, perching Ariel on a rock (though she has a "who, me?" face, lol).

Well, upon relooking at the cover, I think it would look less messy if they gave up on the ship and the whole 'surface'. It would look much more aesthetic if Ariel was kind of the same size, near the logo and the entire setting would be under the sea. The ship and the sky make it look cheap and too forced.

I disagree. Don't you see that Ariel was on the rock, because they wanted to put Eric on the cover, and Eric as a human, cannot be placed underwater because he can't breath?????And , "for God's sake", only Ariel wants to be out of the sea!! And so she is in the PE cover!!! All the characters that enjoy the life under the waves are exactly there!!! For once they seem to fit to the enviroment and not following the heroine's egocentric decision. Also the title is "The Little Mermaid", not "The Human Girl that once was a Mermaid". And I absolutely love the aquatic enviroment, I would like it even more if everyone was underwater! I just love the sea!!!Escapay wrote:4. For god's sake, take them out of the sea! I love the cover and what I like about it was that the sea is like a divison between the characters, because for example the ones that belong to the sea are on the sea like Sebastien, Flounder, Ursula and King Triton, then in the other part we have the ship that belongs to the humans and this is over the sea and finally we have our LITTLE MERMAID Ariel between the sea and the surface because she belongs to both worlds.
I also loved the logo because I think that it fits perfectly and the rays of the sun.

LOL, well said! The whole theme of the movie is that it takes place under the sea. That's what unique about it, that's why it's called "The Little MERMAID" and not "The Little HUMAN". LOL I laguhed so hard at that comment...stitcharielbeast wrote:I find it quite ridiculous that you people are complaining about it being too childish when the movie is obviously going to be peddled towards children, why don't you all try being adults and understand that?
and for the one who complained about the cover being under the sea, FOR GOD'S SAKE it's the reason the movie was so memorable in the first place!!!! it's UNDER THE SEA!!!!!
