Lion King R1 Review Online (DVDFile)
Not sure how Lion King can get "Collector's Series" with what seems to be modest extras, and Monsters Inc can get just "Highly Recommended" with all it packed.
You'd hope that Disney pays attention to these reviews, but is any one of us honestly NOT going to buy this because of the reviews? If they just look at sales numbers, it will be like extras don't even matter. Of course, there's a difference between # of sales and % of customer satisfaction. Though Disney has never seemed much to care about the latter.
It just bites my scab that all the time that could have gone into making this a nice set...seemingly, didn't. Maybe I'll have a different opinion when I actually go on the "Virtual Safari."

Teehee... "bites my scab".
Anywho, I agree about the percent of customer satisfaction thing. Unfortunately, in that department, the soccer moms have a huge lead. Collectors and animation nuts like us don't hold much sway anymore.

Life often leaves us standing bare, naked and dejected with a lost opportunity. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words: "Too late."

Colin Jacobson posted his review on "The Lion King" DVD:

I was hoping for a better grade for the highly praysed Enhanced HT Mix, but I think it will rock anyway. He also gave A- for the extras - his lowest grade for a Disney CE along with "The Emperor's New Groove". Puffy anf fluffy!

I can already see Peter's review for the Aladdin DVD . . .Jake Lipson wrote:Halfway through reading this review, I was thinking, "Who wrote this?" so I looked up at the top of the page and not suprisingly found that DVDFile editor in chief Peter M. Bracke is behind it.
"This is obviously classic Disney here folks - the heros versus the bad guy. Unfortunately, the bad guy is portrayed with utter hatred by Disney as a shallow Afghanistanian, hell bent on destroying a hero (Aladdin) who very much seems to symbolize America. It's a shame stereotypical nonsense like this is produced after 9.11 by Americans like Disney animators who have no more reason to be upset than a black in his natural ghetto surroundings. Perhaps I am being a bit of a shameless, anal-retentive tool, and perhaps nobody gives a crap about the cultural & racist undertones of this movie. But then again, should they? This is classic Disney at its best."

DVDMG has a review up, too. http://www.dvdmg.com/lionking.shtml Colin gave it surprisingly high marks in the supplement category but even so, he still said he's disappointed by them.

You're right: Colin gave the bonuses an bonuses an A-. I thought he was dissapointed by their quailty.Disneykid wrote:DVDMG has a review up, too. http://www.dvdmg.com/lionking.shtml Colin gave it surprisingly high marks in the supplement category but even so, he still said he's disappointed by them.
Colin said that the moive didn’t get an Oscar nomination. Hey, it won two Oscars: Best Music, Original Score and Best Music, Original Song.

Well, A- still is a low grade for a Disney CE, and in Colin's case, he gave A+ for Snow White, Fantasia/Fantasia 2000, Beauty And The Beast, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Toy Story/Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc, and a solid A for Sleeping Beauty, The Nightmare Before Christmas, A Bug's Life, Tarzan and Dinosaur. The only ones who got A- were "The Lion King" and "The Emperor's New Grove'"... so I think he consider these the deceptions. And I agree with him... Even with a long list of bonuses, both discs lack some material and have too much fluff. Still, both also have great bonuses... oh, I like all Disney collector's editions anyway!Starion wrote:You're right: Colin gave the bonuses an bonuses an A-. TheDigitalBits gave the extras a C+. Bill Hunt obviously didn't like the fluff features too much.

I'm not sure if I had read it before, but I'm glad to see that the commentary is on the theatrical print and not the SE.
Correct me if I'm wrong , but I think it was only the SE that had it on Beauty & the Beast??
Either way, I really looking forward to the DVD. Even more now that I'm reading such good reviews...

Mmmmmkay. Did you get that memo? Yeeeeah. See, we decided instead of just searching the board to see if something already been posted, that its better to just read the thread. Yeeeeah. It's kinda is a fullproof way to see if things have already been posted. Yeeeeeeeeah, so I'll make sure you get that memo. Thanks, Starion.Starion wrote:I try to do a search before I post the links.
