It does seem like a long time! But I try not to wish for the months to fly by...because it already seems like they go by way too fast. Then when I get the Disney dvd that's coming out I still seem somewhat unsatisfied. I always want more!!

Just like a river rushing straight into the sea.... I'm the one thing meant for you, and you for me

I'm not quite sure what the scene with the demons flying to Stefan's castle was about. It might have been some deleted sequence idea (or an idea that was planned for the movie but dropped later during production) in which Maleficent sends an army of bat and wraith-like demons flying through the air and surroudning Stefan's castle. I'm not positive if this is the concept art for this scene, but it might be since it pictures bat-like creatures flying towards/from Stefan's castle/Forbidden Mountain.

The Waltz Of The Spinning Wheels scene depicted a dark void-like room, with Maleficent's shadow in the background. There was a few glowing spinning wheels turning and rotating around on a turntable in the center of the room. On the back walls and the sides of the dioramas were mirrors hidden under the blacklight. The mirrors reflected off the wheels, and gave the illusion of dozens of spinning wheels slowly rotating and floating around, giving a sort of disorienting and dizzying effect. I've never seen any pictures of the scene, but it sounded like a neat effect from the sounds of it.
Yep, all of these pieces of concept art were illustrated specifically by Earle himself just for the walk thru. Earle came up with the concepts for the scenes, and Ken Anderson, Rolly Crump, and Claude Coats then later worked on building the dioramas, illusions, lighting, and layout and interior of the walk thru. Thanks for the concept arts,PrincePhillipFan ,What do you mean about the demons flying to Stefan's castle? what they're doing there?. Aurora looks weird in scene 3,what's the Waltz Of The Spinning Wheel?. And those were just for the attrection? not the film?.

It bothers me,too, but what also bothers me that Aurora barley talk, she's the hero of the film and we don't really know her character, but that's the problem with all the character exept Flora,Founa and Merriweather (and maybe Phillip too, since he's a prince, and they (exept Aladdin) don't supposed to have much personality or any).
But this thread is about the Platinum Edition, not the Sleeping Beauty Discission thread.

You know, I wouldn't mind a direct to DVD sequel, maybe with the "Sleeping Beauty Part II" storyline with the orgress Queen and the twin babies.

There's Enchanted Tales but I don't like that part of the fairy tale, she's just saving her children from her mother in law and her prince kills his mother?

THANK YOU PRINCEPHILLIPFAN!!!!!! That was everything I could have asked for! The walk-thru sounded amazing and maybe they will bring it back to Disneyland (they said they were working on replacing it, maybe an updated version).
Hey, about the demons flying from the top of Maleficent's castle to King Stefan's, doesn't it remind you of the fog of doom going from the top of Maleficent's castle to King Stefan's? When she makes the forest of thorns? So I wonder if that's what it was supposed to be, even though the scene was out of place. Or maybe it was while they were thinking of some scene with Maleficent doing something to King Stefan's castle and they didn't know where they were going to put it in the film or what for. But some of the scenes in the walk-thru are out of place anyway. Unless the scene where the fairies watch over the princess suggests that originally Aurora was going to stay in the palace and the fairies were just going to move in?

Disney Duster-There was a picture of Maleficent's goons as fire so maybe her goons were... spells? so maybe those goons created the thorns to make sure that nobody will come to the castle?.

That is actually an excellent idea and very possibly correct. In the original story thorns rose around the castle as soon as the princess and the whole castle fell asleep. They may have planned for Maleficent to guard the castle with thorns even before Phillip tried to get near it.Ariel'sprince wrote:Disney Duster-There was a picture of Maleficent's goons as fire so maybe her goons were... spells? so maybe those goons created the thorns to make sure that nobody will come to the castle?.
Or maybe, even, her demon goons were supposed to guard the castle themselves.

Yeah, thought the fairies acutually created them in the original story, and also they turned into roses when the prince got there so he can pass.Disney Duster wrote:That is actually an excellent idea and very possibly correct. This could be a good idea, maybe she also tried to stop Flora,Founa and Merriweather from helping?.

I'm so glad that you liked the information. I've heard rumors too of the walk thru being brought back to the park with it being newer and more expanded. I certainly hope though that they go back in the style of the original walk thru. As much as I admire WDI for had wanting to have the 1977-2001 walk thru tell the story closer to the actual movie, I thought they took a step back a little. From the videos I've seen, I thought the dolls of the post 77 redo looked like bad Barbies myself, and they removed all of the original illusions and effects, such as the flying demons, the fairies flying over the cradle, and the dancing spinning wheels.THANK YOU PRINCEPHILLIPFAN!!!!!! I think though the idea for the fairies to take Aurora into the forest had been put in pretty early. A few years ago, I managed to find and buy a copy of the exclusive booklet that was given out to Disneyland park guests at the walk-thru's opening in 1957. In it, it has a few of the concept art pieces I showed you as it discusses some of the scenes. But also, it has a large fold-out of Aurora dancing in the forest with the owl, as Phillip watches her atop Samson across a stream. Even though this scene wasn't shown in the walk-thru until after the 1977 redo, apparently it was still a planned part of the movie by 1957.Unless the scene where the fairies watch over the princess suggests that originally Aurora was going to stay in the palace and the fairies were just going to move in?

Sorry to bump up this thread again for a slightly off-topic request, but Atlanticaunderthesea, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you email me the CD audio for the read-along you have? I've been looking for it everywhere on a lot of sites like Amazon, but can't find the one I'm looking for. If you have the time to, or it wouldn't be too much trouble, I'd really appreciate it if you could send the track to me.

UGH! I'M SO PISSED!
It looks like either most of France voted for the worst cover with the re-arranged 2002 art, or Disney didn't have that poll after all, or they did have the poll and they decided to ignore it. Scroll down the whole page to see all the covers:
French Sleeping Beauty Platinum DVD and Blu-ray
RAAARRRRRGGHHHH!!!!!! They're really going to waste that goregous art for the poll, some of the best for a Disney cover, ever?

I also hated that you don't hear Aurora or Phillip speak from the halway mark to the end. They could have had Aurora say something to her parents, or even have Aurora and Phillip acknowledge each other verbally when he awakens her.
What is this 'storyline with the orgress Queen and the twin babies'? Did I miss something?
I remember reading that one of the original ideas for the story was for Aurora to be a 'poor little rich girl' type character where she was kept in her castle away from everyone so as to protect her.

I'm afraid I don't see the cover anywhere else either, Duster. Could you give us a direct link to the image?
Personally, I also can't really think of what dialogue they could have. Aurora is hypnotized and sleeps throughout the entire second half of the picture, so she can't say much. And really, there isn't an opportunity in the rest of the picture where Phillip could say something.
*to the fairies as they appear in his cell* "Who are you?"
*faces off with Maleficent* "Chaaarge!"
Although there is a line that Phillip had that was written in one of the storybooks I wish they had kept in.
Hubert: What does this mean, boy? I...I don't understand.
Phillip: It's love, father. A love I found once upon a dream.
Maybe it's just me, but I never found that really annoying or made their characters lack any. Personally, I love that the last half of the film is mainly musical and very little dialogue. It reminds me a lot of the Tschiavosky ballet it drew inspiration from. I think the ending with just Phillip smiling down at Aurora as she awakens and her smiling back is sweet and tender enough without dialogue.Princess Forever wrote:I also hated that you don't hear Aurora or Phillip speak from the halway mark to the end. Okay, I edited it, you should see the French Sleeping Beauty covers now.
As for the storyline of the princess staying in the palace, that's in almost all other versions, too. In fact, on the Special Edition DVD that's now out of print, there's “The 1951 Outline” which tells an early draft of the story Disney was working on with the princess living in the castle all her life and kept from the outside world where spinning wheels could be! In Perrault's story, the ogress mother sends the princess and her children to a cottage in the woods, the cook hides the children in his own lodgings instead of cooking them, so I think that's how Disney got some of the idea to hide Aurora there from Maleficent, even though it's a lot like Snow White.
In many recorded versions of the Sleeping Beauty story, including the one by Charles Perrault, which is the one Disney credited as the story they based the movie off of, it continues after the princess wakes up. The prince goes off to war and his mother, who was of "ogress lineage" has trouble controlling her desire to eat people, especially children. So she tries to get her cook to feed her the children the prince and princess have, and eventually the princess herself, but the cook has hidden the princess' children and given the mother animals instead. When she finds out, she prepares a pit of vipers and other poisionous and man-eating animals to throw the princess and her children in. The prince arrives home early and the mother throws herself into the pit instead, ashamed I guess.Princess Forever wrote:What is this 'storyline with the orgress Queen and the twin babies'?
