Congratulations Julian! :)

As it have been said it takes a lot of courage but not only accept it, also telling to the world and affronting their reaction.

I wish you the best of lucks; hoping you have if not understandable, loving parents. Also caring friends who will be enough open mind to see that it doesn't matter if a gal or a guy turn your buttons but who you really are.

Be brave Julian, and proud of yourself always!
Act like a prince would act, but not try to follow a story because you already got one: The Story of YOUR Life

A big big big big(waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay big) hugh

Disney Duster: Thanks for telling me adorable! But I think I should be less sometimes(Paola--my girlfriend--told me that I remind her the princess of Enchated)

I did that in the bathtub. It didn't work as well as a pool might, I'm sure.

Disney Duster wrote:Lazario, could I get just a tad more on what you meant by "blue-collar" for Cinderella's world?
It wasn't any kind of insult. It's the simple fact that Cinderella is down to Earth and works very hard for a living. Her accomodations are not glamorous, she wears rags, does very meneal jobs, and is a little sassy because of it. That differs her a lot from Ariel, Jasmine, Aurora. And it's a movie as equally about Cinderella as it is about her helpers.

In terms of animation, I have nothing to say. Besides, I think viewers respond more to a lifestyle if the film itself is less fantasy-oriented. The only onscreen magic that comes into the film comes half-way in with the Fairy Godmother and doesn't last long.

Disney Duster wrote:Yea, no one ever said interests make you gay, but they are definately an indicator.
I agree.

I guess that means loving Disney films is now an Indicator. Image

Xxhplinkxx, I acted like Ariel a lot, too. Her, Cinderella, and Aurora, and many other female characters from their films. Yuppers.

SpringHeelJack...see above.

Isidour - hehe...that's sounds too cute. You really should join us...but I suppose having someone break stereotypes is special. Of course being gay is the specialist of all specials!!!!!!!

Actually, it seems that way. Lighthousemike, who's gay and was in here, said he was obviously gay because he was a guy on a Disney forum!

Oh, and thanks for what you said about the rest. Yea, I agree, and of course Sleeping Beauty's just so visually interesting it makes you want to watch the film no matter what's actually going on, and it's a grown up type of thing, watching it because of the incredible complicated art, something kids would have trouble doing.

That sounds fine to me. :)

And I just sent you a email mentioning what books I that I managed to find. If you're interested in any of them, be sure to let me know back.

As for my childhood, I can't remember ever much imagining myself as any of the other princesses. However when I would play a lot with the neighbor kids, I would often always get assigned to be the role of the damsel in distress or girl if it was any kind of game that needed it. I guess the other kids already saw then how sort of feminine I acted. :p

I don't really see anything gay in Something Wicked This Way Comes (except for that guy who becomes a tranny), The Black Hole, Tron, Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow, The Barefoot Executive, Old Yeller, Night Crossing, Escape to Witch Mountain, The Cat From Outer Space etc.

Also, looking at this thread is like watching Victor/Victoria. Yes everyone is gay, but your not that surprised. And being gay doesn't make you special or unique (but it doesn't hurt either).

Yeah, but "Victor / Victoria" had Julie Andrews. Can we at least get her?

Well... I whould never admit it anyplace else but for me it was pretend to be Belle or in her place.

Also I seem to recall singing to "Amazing Mazie" from Seussical ALOT and that was when I was 9.

That was not embarrassing.

Good. I plan on seeing her Friday. After I extract some of her DNA to add to my own sequence, I will throw her over my back, take her to my apartment, and force her to partake in our chat.

That sounds like we're soon headed for a discussion about what's the gayest entertainment source out there(?) and how Disney is less or more gay than Mommie Dearest or Liza Minelli or Brokeback Mountain or Elton John, etc, etc.

Are you trying to say you see no gay appeal to any of Disney's films? Why would you assume I think things that appeal to a large gay audience are "completely" gay? Can you think of one source of entertainment that appeals only to gay men?

The Fan of Prince Phillip wrote:Just curious, but does anyone recommend a good way for letting your parents know about it?
It may depend on your parents' personalities, but I think coming out to your parents should be the first step ... and the easiest! My family members have known for years about my sexual orientation. I just never came public until now (well, on the internet at least ... I still haven't told anyone else). Don't be hesitant. Be clear and concise. Perhaps you'd want to talk with your parents in more detail and explain how long you've been feeling that way, and how it has affected you on an emotional level. They'll help.
Disney Dusting Mike wrote:Julian, I actually wondered if you were gay. I can't say what it was that hinted at it, I think it was something in your pictures, some gaydar I must have.
Now that makes me curious! Please elaborate! Please elaborate! Please elaborate!!! I'm drooling!
The Mike who loves Dusting Disney with a Feather Duster made of Shiny Spider Silk wrote:I'm glad you came out, but I was worried that because you lived in the very religious Malta, it would be murder.
Well ... it may not quite literally be murder, but there is a substantial level of prejudice agains homosexuals in my country, perhaps made worse by the 'closed village mentality' that so commonly associates with separated populations (nevertheless, it has been reduced significantly in recent years, which is a good thing). I think declaring that you're gay in Malta can possibly affect your social life and career. Still, many people have come out of the closet ... even local famous faces. For example, a TV presenter who hosts our local version of "Deal Or No Deal" declared that he was gay despite being a media personality. There are others I can mention. Ah well ... Malta is a mixed bag. It's so small that if you go to a public activity like a village festa or a music festival, you're garaunteed to meet at least three people you know. I don't think that would happen if you lived in France. :P You can even discover people who are related to you! Last year I found out that a schoolmate of mine, called Marc Agius Fernandez (whom I had already known for 3 years), is my third cousin! This 'everybody-is-related-to-everybody' population living in a entire country which is itself smaller than one foreign city (e.g. Berlin  ) creates a slightly stagnant mentality which is not too forgiving of people who stray away from society's norms and values (i.e. gay people). Unfortunately our society is also becoming disgustingly racist against black people (:headshake:), but that's another story for another time. Oooh! I just quoted Leonard Maltin from The Chronological Donald Volume 2. :P

Who Here is Gay?

Post by Disney Duster »

Well, Julian, when you took of your glasses and weren't looking at the camera, it was really cute, and I don't know, maybe something about it read "insecure as a straight guy". But today, actually, I realized what really made me think you were gay was when you posted about that kid getting cyberbullied. He was called "ugly" and "faggot". That you cared for the boy and listed words that had to do with his attractiveness and his sexuality might have made me think.

Thanks for telling me a little more about Malta. Haha, you're Belle and want to get out of the small town to be yourself, you're so different from the rest of the villagers! I'm glad to hear there are other, even media publicized people who have come out and are still going strong. The race issue is horrible, and less understandable because it has nothing to do with religion and you can't hide being black like you can being gay. Hope that changes.

Hmm... I myself am not quite sure whether my actions regarding that matter could be indicative of my orientation. What's interesting is that I don't consider that kid ugly. When his mouth is closed he looks just like any regular 11 or 12 year old boy, in my opinion. I was going to mention that in my original post.
Mikey wrote:Haha, you're Belle and want to get out of the small town to be yourself, you're so different from the rest of the villagers!
Tee hee! :P Nice comparison.
Mickster wrote:The race issue is horrible, and less understandable because it has nothing to do with religion and you can't hide being black like you can being gay. Hope that changes.
It seems to have become most apparent ever since we've been plagued with the constant illegal immigrants from northern Africa. It's been happening for quite a few years now and is a serious issue. However, there are people who instead of hate the actual problem of the illegal immigration, develop racial hate towards the Africans aboard the vessels.

A local politician, called Norman Lowell, is publicly racist. He absolutely disgusts me! He calls black people in our country "black nuggets on the beach". He's bloody mad! He's been accused of racial hate multiple times and taken to court. He's just been put on probation. If he says one more word he'll be thrown into prison for two years. He's even been found guilty of insluting the president of Malta!

Unless you have misread the banner of this area of the forum, this is for off-topic discussions where anyone may be able to come and discuss anything they would like that's not involved with Disney. If you do not wish to read this kind of subject matter, than I suggest you just stick to the General Discussion area of the board, where only you can discuss Disney film topics.

As for taking offense and finding other links, I see nothing wrong with being able to discuss this in the off-topic area of this forum. Personally, I think it's nice to know that there are so may other gay and bisexual Disney fans like myself here on the forum who are so proud of who they are. This topic helped me to finally come to terms who I was, and openly and proudly admit who I am now. I'm finally proud now to say I'm bisexual, and have no shame or reason to hide it anymore, thanks to discussions with people like Duster. All the time I kept trying to convince myself I was straight because of so many others, but deep down I knew I wasn't. This topic has helped me to finally let my real self out and be proud of it. I see nothing wrong here with discussing this topic. I think it's nice to know and get acquainted with other Disney fans who happen to share the same kind of sexuality and interests and be able to openly discuss them.

And Julian, thank you so much for the advice. I'm kind of nervous about mentioning the subject to my parents, since as I said, they're kind of big Catholics. I told most of my other friends so far and they've all been understanding and proud of myself for finally admitting it. I just hope my parents will be after I kept trying to hide it for so long.

Why not be open minded isn’t that what most of the movies we love are about? Being gay or bi or straight or whatever (yes that means you Gonzo ;)) is perfectly normal and the times are changin' gay movies aren’t only about sex anymore and there are children’s books about the subject. A person’s sexual orientation is just another thing about them, like skin color, hair, eyes, likes, dislikes everything but it does not define them nor make them less of a valuable person.

Agreed, Phillipfan. UD is a very wonderful and special place (where else can I feel better about my gayness and talk about The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh?) and a few bad apples shouldn't spoil the bunch for the rest of us.

Also, Julian, that was the sexy and talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt, my favorite young star. And also, it was a lollipop, not a cigarette :P
