Way to follow your heart, you should never be afraid to be yourself, Julian!
When do I get my membership card?

Thanks for the reassurances!

You bet it feels good!
JiminyCrick91 wrote:Oh BTW your membership card is in the mail.
Wowee! Two membership cards! Do I get to choose the colour? Gee! I could use them as ID cards!
The Fan of Prince Phillip wrote:Just curious, but does anyone recommend a good way for letting your parents know about it?
It may depend on your parents' personalities, but I think coming out to your parents should be the first step ... and the easiest! My family members have known for years about my sexual orientation. I just never came public until now (well, on the internet at least ... I still haven't told anyone else). Don't be hesitant. Be clear and concise. Perhaps you'd want to talk with your parents in more detail and explain how long you've been feeling that way, and how it has affected you on an emotional level. They'll help.
Disney Dusting Mike wrote:Julian, I actually wondered if you were gay. I can't say what it was that hinted at it, I think it was something in your pictures, some gaydar I must have.
Now that makes me curious! Please elaborate! Please elaborate! Please elaborate!!! I'm drooling!

Well ... it may not quite literally be murder, but there is a substantial level of prejudice agains homosexuals in my country, perhaps made worse by the 'closed village mentality' that so commonly associates with separated populations (nevertheless, it has been reduced significantly in recent years, which is a good thing). I think declaring that you're gay in Malta can possibly affect your social life and career. Still, many people have come out of the closet ... even local famous faces. For example, a TV presenter who hosts our local version of "Deal Or No Deal" declared that he was gay despite being a media personality. There are others I can mention. Ah well ... Malta is a mixed bag. It's so small that if you go to a public activity like a village festa or a music festival, you're garaunteed to meet at least three people you know. I don't think that would happen if you lived in France.

You can even discover people who are related to you! Last year I found out that a schoolmate of mine, called Marc Agius Fernandez (whom I had already known for 3 years), is my third cousin! This 'everybody-is-related-to-everybody' population living in a entire country which is itself smaller than one foreign city (e.g. Berlin

) creates a slightly stagnant mentality which is not too forgiving of people who stray away from society's norms and values (i.e. gay people). Unfortunately our society is also becoming disgustingly racist against black people (:headshake:), but that's another story for another time. Oooh! I just quoted Leonard Maltin from
The Chronological Donald Volume 2.

SpringHeelJack, before your current avatar you had another of a guy with a cigarette. I knew I'd seen him somewhere before, but I couldn't recognise him. Who was he?

He did remind me of Shia La Beouf, truth be told.
