Re: Beauty and the Beast Discussion

So I went and played it again today, and I’m realizing this is a different restoration... or whatever the correct word is. It’s clearly the same master, but they’ve gone back in and tweaked the reds slightly. Belle definitely has brown hair now. But watch the ballroom scene specifically and look at how foggy/tinted the whites in the eyes are. That’s the giveaway this is the same master just edited. It is better, I will give it that. But it’s clear this still isn’t a true back to basics restoration/new master or direct port over from the CAPS files.

I think the lack of white is a problem sourced from the CAPS because Aladdin lacks pure whites as well.
I don't know what's going on or why Aladdin gets a new master or why they bother fixing The Little Mermaid or The Lion King but Beauty and the Beast gets this poor treatment.

More images. Sorry some are not rotated, I don't have the patience.
Take into consideration that the camera changes them a bit. They look better on screen. I wish I could take screenshots.

Thanks, farerb! You guys are so lucky to be able to watch the film the way it's supposed to be now, and in the highest quality.

I'm only able to watch it from my phone (which is no way to watch a film) and I'm gonna unsubscribe in a couple of days before the 7 days trial ends.
I do believe they'll release it on disc eventually, though I hope enough people draw their attention to the mistake so they'll be able to correct this before a release. IDK the future is uncertain.

The colors do seem much better from the screenshots you posted. A 4K BATB was confirmed for March 2020 I think so if this is the 4K restoration being used on Disney Plus, it's safe to say it will make its way for the physical release.

Comparing the Signature Edition digital copy and the Disney+ copy, side by side and both on my phone, the difference is very minor. Belle’s hair is noticeably darker, but overall, it looks like the pink and yellow master— nothing like the laserdisc grabs I’ve seen. If this is what finds its way to 4K Blu-Ray, I will be disappointed.

I finally watched it on my TV and the restoration doesn't look that different to me either. In some shots her hair is more brown or her dress is more blue but there are still plenty where her hair is reddish/auburn or the pinkish tint is super visible. Gaston's outfit is still not a dark red.

The overall colors don't seem that different from the Signature Edition which is a shame. I'm not sure if I just can't see the differences or if the copy I'm watching really is a different transfer from the one other people are seeing since they swear that they're seeing a new restoration. Basically the screenshots that farerb posted look really great but don't resemble what I'm seeing onscreen and farerb also said that what he saw on his screen was even better than what the screenshots portray.

I hope so, too.

Beauty and the Beast needs an actual restoration that makes it look how it did in theaters and that's not what they have done for Disney + it sounds.

So here's the thing I went into the website and it showed me the bluray version unlike my Android app. I don't know why that is and it's really unfortunate cause I was hoping to take screenshots and showing you all what I really saw.

I find that so bizarre how everyone is getting different versions even in different devices. I think I have the Blu-Ray version on both my phone and TV/PS4. The screenshots you took were from someone else's phone or screen, correct?

I used my mom's phone to take pictures of my phone cause the app doesn't allow to take screenshots.

Yeah, sorry, I meant photos not screenshots. I'm glad you have the proper version of the film on your mom's phone at least.

^ That was awesome! I loved how Belle ducked scared of the fire on the flambe, and was surprised at the mug she was holding, and the flower petal shower was so pretty!

Hey everyone, I have a question. Has anyone tried to watch the 3D version of Beauty and the Beast without the 3D? I watched it last night, and I do think it's a great version, because it shows more picture on the top and bottom, but overall, the colors are very tiring.
