Quite indeed. Seems very different from the Raya we’ve been introduced to during 2019 D23 Convention and the one the WDAS were working on back at this time.

Maybe this drawing is just off-model because this is a casual children book?
(.. or maybe it’s part of the changes that happened on the project since Jennifer took over it.)

Same here. This «last dragon» is never too far ;-)

Story on Raya is just finishing up this week. It seems a little late, but it's understandable since the film has been heavily retooled from the version shown at the D23 Expo in 2019. It's remarkable to think that this movie has been in the works since 2015.
Fawn Veerasunthorn wrote:When I started working on Raya and the Last Dragon, Kina was barely 1. We just now wrap the story portion of the movie this week-she is now 4. I’m proud to have survived 3 years of intense learning and growing in both work and life, even though these two things are not always in balanced.

Just like with Tangled and The Great Mouse Detective, it shows how fast the actual production is once the pre-production and story is complete.

It seems like this is happening pretty often with the modern Disney films. I think the only older film I remember hearing that happened with (somebody correct me--like I had to ask, lol, people look for things to supposedly "correct" me for here)--was Aladdin although Rumpelstiltskin mentioned TGMD, too?

From The New York Times:

https://www.nytimes.com/1986/07/27/movi ... ation.html
The animation department had to animate the 72-minute ''Great Mouse Detective,'' start to finish, in one year, by the summer of 1986 (the artists had been aiming at a Christmas 1987 release) - about half the time that the Disney Studio had been taking to animate a feature since the opening of Disneyland began the diversification of the company in 1955.
And back then, they didn't have CAPS to help them.

I didn't mean to sound like I was disagreeing with you if that's how it was received, I just mentioned what you said because I hadn't known that about TGMD and I was wondering if there were others.

On August 29, 2020 animation was at 53%.

The fact that Disney's animated movies can now to a large degree be made at home is fascinating. I wonder if that will have any consequences for future productions. Use the positive sides of working home, and eliminate the negative sides.

No, I just posted the info in case it should be of any interest. I'm not aware of any other movies other than those already mentioned.

What I'm wondering is if and how they can do test screenings.

Maybe they'll add that in the extras on the DVD, but these days is seems like Disney is putting less and less effort into their DVDs compared to what they used to.

A limited screening with few people is a possibility or a virtual screening from home.

Anyway, all the characters in the franchise are the main characters/subjects of their respective films with the exception of Jasmine, understandable because Aladdin was a hit unlike other films where the main character is not a woman, so that's probably the reason why Kida isn't included unlike Merida.
Aurora has like 20 minutes of screentime in Sleeping Beauty, I think.
Well, considering the film is only 75 minutes, It's not that bad. Also, she only sleeps about 20 minutes before the credits roll so people are way too harsh on the character.

Thanks so much for the share D82. Her reaction to being called a Disney Princess was so so cute! :D Her excitement seems so genuine! I just feel bad for Cassie :(

Yeah, I feel bad for Cassie too. Maybe Raya's personality changed so much that Cassie's voice no longer fit with the character or something like that. I guess the change will be for the better, but learning she was going to be replaced must've been really disappointing for her.

I guess you were right that they've changed her design a bit. I liked how she looked in that leaked poster, but to be honest, though she looked beautiful, I think her design lacked a bit of personality, so hopefully this change will also be for the better. We'll see.
