That little plot twist is... disappointing, but Pixar has a knack for making unappealing concepts on paper work in the final piece.

Well, I feel sorry for all of you. Because you probably have 2% chance of getting a good lay then.

Oh, and about the news of Merida's mother ( :P )--I could swear that info. was given before, but I didn't remember it till just now. Maybe I'm imagining things...?

Also, why does everyone keep bringing up Brother Bear? For one, there are a lot of films with similarities both before and after (that don’t necessarily have bears). Secondly, who would want to specifically copy that crap? Honestly.

Edit: About the Julie Walters character, there's nothing said that she's the villain. Of course, it is possible. Maybe she is the one who gives Merida the spell that'll get rid of the queen (aka get the queen out of her way)?

I trust Pixar to make Brave a hell of a lot better than Brother Bear, which was made in the most downright embarrassing span in Disney Animation history. There will be a whole lot more happening than that one aspect of the plot.

Eh, the only thing really bad about Brother Bear were the Moose brothers, though even they weren't Hunchback Gargoyles or BEN annoying.

Yeah. I don't think it's going to be taking off from that film. And a good thing too! Cause Brother Bear was just a monstrosity! The moose are probably the most annoying Disney comic relief characters.

I don't know, I think both the Disney and Pixar animaters/makers are employed because of their extremely high standard of work. I don't think anyone would be allowed to work on a Disney/ Pixar film in ANY department unless they were the best in their respected field.

That's all I've got to say on the company issue. Not one Pixar film yet has failed to completely blow my mind and make me fall in love (well maybe not Cars.) But I have no doubt Brave will blow my mind yet again.

Welllll... my girlfriend conveniently resides in the two percent that ajmrowland mentioned. :D

And.... I loved the moose. I love Brother Bear. I honestly don't understand what all the crap it always gets is for. Like literally, I've watched it with the sole purpose of watching for flaws and bad storytelling, and I just can't find it in me to NOT like it.

I also love Brother Bear. It is one of my favourite Disney films and personally like it more than the Lion King (my opinion by the way). To me, it has a good story, music and flow. I don't mind the moose brothers either.

Anyway, on topic, Brave looks good, can't wait.

On the subject of Disney releasing the trailer online. I think a lot of people misinterpreted the fact that the camcorder recordings were being pulled from YouTube because they were not official. Reality is that Disney had probably already scheduled the trailer to debut online when it did, before it's theatrical release. (my thoughts on what was happening)

I agree.

If the bear's foot is that big, I'd hate to see the rest of him!

Me too. I have fun doodling her. She's has such a different and unique style.

I also ♥ Rutt and Tuke...ok, ay? Brother Bear is a sweet movie.

Right now, I can't see any female resemblance in that bear. If the report is true then that is one ginormous she-bear.

The original title WAS "The Bear and the Bow"... so I guess we know who the bear is now haha.

This is really shaping up to be something. That bear, Merida's unique design, and three Harry Potter actors in one place(sort of).

If another studio 'steals' the Disney feel as you said ( ) and that means I get to see a great movie (whether it's produced and distributed by Disney or not), then that's great, and I don't see your problem with it.
Then just two questions:

1. Doesn't everyone here believe that Disney is unique. That Disney has it's own identity. That it does some things that only Disney can do?

2. If you made a studio, where you were doing things that you felt were new, and unique to only your studio, wouldn't you feel bad if other people said other studios could do the same thing, make them feel the same way, like there was no difference between your studio and the others?

Hey, I did not say that he should take back his comment, I just asked because I felt hurt by it, which means to me it was offensive. I am not asking any further now, so don't worry about it.

Not really. I don’t care about hot chicks. (and I have legs to die for, thankfully. )

Also, I don't hate Brother Bear because of the moose--they're actually the only part I can halfway stand. I just don't like the story, or the sappy way it's told. And despite my personal dislike for it, I still think it would be totally random for Pixar to suddenly decide to copy it, of all things. :?

First of all, I am surprised by all the Brother Bear hate. I mean, it's been years since I last saw it, but I remember liking it. Not A LOT for it to become one of my all time favorites, but it certainly was pretty good. I really liked the drama between the three brothers and how that fueled nearly all of the events in the movie. I will admit that it got too cartoony with the animals and think they should have gone down the "Land Before Time" route. Though, I love the Moose characters. It was also pretty cheesy in its mentality.

But again, it is far from THE worst movie ever made. I think Dinosaur is a far worse movie when compared to it. But it's just me.

Regarding Brave, I will admit, I am EXCITED. It's been years since I've been excited for a Pixar movie. I mean, sure I always look forward to Pixar movies, but they haven't generated this much excitement in me prior to their release.

Regarding the plot twist, yes it might seem pretty tame, but note that Pixar are MASTERS at manipulating emotion. You can bet that they will take that and make it very heartrending.

Here's how I see it...

From everything we have read so far, the main conflict is Merida against her mother. One is a free spirit, the other is very traditional. This causes a clash in ideals, most likely affecting their relationship. When it is revealed that the bear is actually her mother, she has two very conflicting choices to make: does she kill the bear and prevent further disaster, or does she let it live because it is her mother.

Worse, what is Merida DOESN'T know the bear is her mother? There is a lot of things that could be done with the concept.

Interesting theories pap. That would be a cool concept to see played out.
