It's not basically OOP at all. It is available on practically every website that sells movies. It might be OOP because it is rare to find one in a store, except for E/B Games and others, but there are plenty of copies on websites. So it really couldn't be "basically" OOP if it's still available on many websites.goodreel wrote:I say buy it!! $35 sounds like a good deal to me for something that's basically out-of-print.

Cool. I didnt know that. I bought mine years ago when it was first released. I just assumed that it was out-of-print along with the other Collector's Edition like Tarzan and Emperor's New Groove.TheSequelofDisney wrote:It's not basically OOP at all. Well, all of the Collector's Editions are OOP except for "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" and "Dinosaur." Oh yeah, the "A Bug's Life" re-issue is also still in print.goodreel wrote:Cool. Wow! Thank you everyone for your input! I'm wondering who the people who voted "No" and "Don't know; Dont Care"...
But there's an overwhelming majoirty in the "buy it!" category, which I think I'll do. There are only a couple of problems. First, I'm going out of town thursday morning, and I won't have much time between now and then to pick it up. Plus, I have to pick up the TLKII DVD I had transferred hopefully tommorow (right now I'm a little ticked off- apparently, the store that transferred TLK2 transferred the case and slipcover, but NOT the DVD's!!!
So now, I'm waiting for those DVD's to get here, hopefully unharmed), plus 2 Disney VHS's (BatB and LATT) ASAP. So, I'm not sure when I will find the time to pick up Atlantis as well, but I'm hoping to do so soon.
By the way, I took Escapay's advice and watched Atlantis before making my decision. (Actually, I downloaded it off Limewire...) I thought it was pretty good, yet definately without the whole Disney-feeling to it. Plus, I kind of liked not being baraged by songs every ten minutes (ala: the Fab-Four, despite how amazing they are!) I actually found the film to be like an animated Indiana Jones film, only as Disney's twist on it. So, I didn't think it was all bad, it just wasn't Disney's best. Interesting effort though!!
Anyway, I'm just hoping now that Best Buy won't sell their copy(ies) until I get a chance to pick one up!! Oh, and do you think BB will pricematch to The Disney Store? Because they have it (online) for $29.99.
Thanks again!

I would say the one's to be looking to get while they're still around, and relatively easy to find are probably Aladdin, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp and Bambi. I'm not sure on the availability of all of those. Also make sure you don't leave it too long to pick up The Little Mermaid and The Jungle Book, because odds are it's going to be a long while before they're available again once they go to the vault and sell out. Some of those I mentioned are already back in the vault.
A lot of the non-Platinum are pretty much always in print, though there are some hard to find gems like the Tarzan CE or the Emperor's New Groove CE.
The early platinums, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King are fetching high prices now - you might get away with The Lion King reasonably priced. And beware of bootlegs on Ebay. If it's going cheap, odds are it's a bootleg. Even if it's going for a packet, it might still be a fake.
Those three platinums should be reappearing in the next few years though, so if you can hang out for them, it would be cheaper. So is Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, 101 Dalmatians and Fantasia.
But you probably know all that as you've been hanging around here for a bit now.
Oh, and early Treasures are like gold dust, if you can find them sealed in the tins.

Wow! Way to bring back an ancient thread instead of doing a new one and for using the search option!!!!
Anyway, I will tell you which ones to get ASAP in reguards to the Animated Classics. (I'm just assuming that that's what you're refering to. I don't know that much about Disney's live action DVD's anyway...) So, I will make sort of a list for you on the animated Disney DVD's that I believe you should get ASAP:
One's you should get as soon as humanly possible in a store near you:
- Bambi PE (It was put back in the vault January 31st 2006, and the numbers are decreasing.
- Lady and the Tramp PE (same as Bambi)
One's you should get very soon in a store near you:
- Aladdin PE (this set is honestly overdue to go back to the vault. I believe that it will become OOP next January)
- Cinderella PE (I'm just about 100% sure this set is going back in the vault this January and because it's a princess / fairly popular film, once it goes OOP, it will become difficult to find and expensive)
- The Little Mermaid PE (same as Cinderella, though not entirely sure it's going back in the vault this January but it's very possible)
One's you may wish to get if you can find them used or bellow $30:
- Snow White PE (this is the first, and arguably BEST platinum to date. While you may want to wait for the new edition coming around 2009, it may not get much better than the current edition. I personally found my copy used at a Gamestop for $17. If you can find one at that price, I HIGHLY recommend buying it).
-Beauty and the Beast PE (while many people might disagree, I also think the BATB PE is one of the better platinums with lots of bonus features and most importantly, the Work-In-Progress version of the film!)
-The Lion King PE (I might recommend you to just forego this edition just because it's not as great as it's predesessors or others after it. However, if you do find it used or for around $25 or less, I would recommend buying it).
- The Emperor's New Groove CE (I HIGHLY recommend getting this "Ultimate Groove" Edition of TENG if you can find it. It's loaded with bonus features comparable to a platinum with an amazing transfer and everything. However, it is pretty hard to find but it's unlikely to get a new 2-Disk SE of TENG due to the fiasco that was the "New Groove Edition." However, if you can find it for around $30, don't hesitate to buy it!!!)
-Tarzan CE (Same as Emperor's New Groove; hard to find, but very worth it if you can. Honestly, this is the main Disney DVD I'm searching for at the moment).
- Atlantis CE (I know many here might not like the film, but in case you might, this set is loaded with bonus features about the film and is worth the money. However, I would only pay a maximum of $20-$30 new for it).
(-Sleeping Beauty SE (While the new platinum edition is coming out Oct. 2008, I really believe that it will be nothing more that porting everything over from the special edition on to this new platinum. This set is amazing as it is, and if you can find it for around $20-$25 used or new, I would recommend buying this edition and possibly foregoing the new Platinum coming soon. But I'll leave SB up to you, hence why it's in parenthases).
One's you might want to get whenever it's possible. However, it's not that urgent:
- Pocahontas SE (A pretty good set. However, it doesn't appear that this 2-Disk SE is going OOP anytime soon).
- Mulan SE (Same as Pocahontas).
- Alice in Wonderland ME (same as Pocahontas and Mulan).
- Fox and the Hound 25th Anniv. Ed. (fairly good DVD, considering the film is not one of the most popular of Disney Films).
- Robin Hood MWE (same as FATH).
- Dumbo BTE (despite the fact that Dumbo deserves a 2-Disk treatment, the sets that it has now has a fairly good amount of bonus features).
One's I would forego buying at the moment unless you have a real desire to have them now:
- ALL "GOLD COLLECTION" TITLES (Sword in the Stone, Great Mouse Detective, Rescuers, Hercules, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Oliver and Co., Black Cauldron, Rescuers Go Down Under, all package films, etc) (In my opinion, all of these films are very likely to be rereleased in better, even possibly 2-Disk editions in the future. At this point, it would be silly to buy these with the very large possibility of new editions in the near future).
- Fantasia 60th Anniv. / Fantasia 2000 / Fantasia Anthology (While the Anthology set is AMAZING, with the new Platinum coming up, I don't think it's really worth it to track down a set as hard to find as the Fantasia Anthology. Just hold off until the PE).
- 101 Dalmatians LI (Unless you're a big fan of the film and gotta have it now or you are a completionist and have to have the film in it's OAR, then just wait until the PE coming this March (in one year). Then you can have a set with actual bonus features!!!
)
- The Jungle Book LI (Same as 101 Dalmatians. Especially since the transfer on the DVD of TJB is a little worse than the VHS!!!!)
- Pinocchio LI / GC (Pinocchio is coming around 2009 in it's new Platinum Edition. 'Nuff said.)
- Aristocats GC (rumor has been going around for a while that a 2-Disk SE of Aristocats was coming in March of this year. However, it has been put off (obviously) until March 2008. Hopefully, it will still be a 2-Disk!!)
-Lilo and Stitch (Same as Aristocats, although the 2-Disk LAS has kind of dissappeared off the face of the earth...)
-The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh 25th Anniv. Ed. (A new edition is coming out in a few weeks. Just wait until 6/19 to purchase this title).
Wow, that took a while, but I think I covered everything. Hope everything with your collection works out! Write soon!

I know that our Best Buy still sells the Atlantis: Collector's Edition, so, if I were you, I'd try Best Buy (and maybe Circuit City if Best Buy doesn't have it) if you're interested in that DVD.
And, as far as "Cinderella II", I've discovered that that is the hardest animated Disney DVD to find, both legitimately and at a reasonable price. When I sold my VHS tapes, I sold my CII tape, and I shouldn't have, since it's really hard to find a DVD of it. There's a thread on the Trade forum here about "Cinderella II". I, myself, am hoping that they'll rerelease it sometime (why they didn't before "Cinderella III" came out is beyond me)...For this one, the higher-priced copies will be the way to go, so you have a better chance of not getting a bootleg...that's just my opinion!

Anyway, I don't have time at the moment to make a full list, but I made a list in the Loss of Quality Platinum thread of the five most essential DVD sets for Disney Animated Classics...
Aladdin: Platinum Edition
Atlantis - The Lost Empire: Collector's Edition
The Fantasia Anthology (OOP)
Pocahontas: 10th Anniversary Edition
Sleeping Beauty: Special Edition (OOP)

Does anyone know if the trilogy set is going to be released or not?
I'm guessing since I can't find it for pre-sale anywhere yet, that the answer is no.

Not... yet. Even with R1 Disney's aversion to box sets, I'd be pretty surprised if there isn't some kind of low-priced triple feature DVD made available for Christmas 2008 or '09. Not with new bonus features, though. Probably just the existing DVDs, like the Mighty Ducks Trilogy.kbehm29 wrote:Does anyone know if the trilogy set is going to be released or not?
If you live in PAL-Land you can pick up the following:
http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/3432553/ ... oduct.html
No extra supplements, just the three "special editions" already available/available soon.
