That Chinese New Year poster is very pretty!

Another thing that worries me is how Mulan will defeat the villain in the remake. In the original, it was Mulan's intelligence and resourcefulness that took Shan Yu down. It wasn't her superior physical strength or martial art capabilities. I hope that element isn't taken away in favor of highlighting her physical prowess.

These posters are a bit lackluster for my taste.

Considering the witch's magical abilities, I doubt Mulan would be able to beat her on physical prowess alone. It'll still be her ingenuity that helps her take down the witch, assuming even that the witch will be her enemy by the end of the film. I still believe the witch might be enslaved by Bori Khan (especially since transforming into a hawk/falcon seems very reminiscent of Shan Yu's bird sidekick) and she will join forces with Mulan.

It's not a spoiler, people are making predictions on what we think might happen in the film, so you haven't been spoiled :)

Yoson An is cute enough for the love interest. Jason Scott Lee's more attractive just based on those characters posters though.

The character posters are not bad, but why every piece of promotional art has to include Mulan's refection in them?

Here's another interview with Niki Caro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvfBvbqIM0g

I know, right? It's like a horror movie! Mulan has possessed their weapons and is going to make them kill themselves with them!

She just casually admitted there are plans for a sequel.

Yes, I was surprised she mentioned that so early, before the film has even been released.

Well, Disney's always looking for their next franchise and they must believe Mulan's going to be a hit. Even before a film is released, they can gauge interest with trailer views, social media chatter and whatnot. It's not always accurate but it gives them the chance to start working on the next installment earlier.

Not to mention that they're eventually going to be done remaking their catalog and they need to continue getting money somehow.

I swear this isn't said with an obnoxious tone of voice: Of course there are... I thought everyone here knew that. I remember posting a few pages ago when we were talking about the music, that they might have decided to cut songs as a premeditated decision for the sequel(s)' sake, because including songs in the first film would require them to hire somebody to write new music for a sequel when the sequel occurs. That's a problem they're contemplating in the present with how to do Aladdin 2, I'm guessing.

Was I the only one that knew Mulan was being thought of as a franchise, just like Aladdin? Mulan's going to hit a billion, so I expect one, perhaps two sequels to make it a trilogy unless the second one bombs. This is partly why the changes enrage me, because I wanted to be able to enjoy this franchise just like Aladdin. It's also why I could believe Disney was looking through older films like Atlantis for something they might possibly be able to leverage into a franchise the same as Aladdin, Mulan--the same way they tried with reviving TRON even though the original wasn't really a big hit.

Just upfront, while I do expect TLM to come close a billion, too, or at least hit the $700 million range like Maleficent, I don't believe it'll get a sequel. Just like they once considered a sequel for B&tB because of the money they could gain and passed on it, I feel Disney will ultimately leave TLM as a stand-alone. Of course--and a chill is going up my spine as I write this--they may have hired Miranda to "help" with the first film in preparation that he might write songs for a possible sequel.... God, please, no.

New TV spot. I guess they're going to keep regurgitating the same footage over and over in their promotional campaign. There's nothing new in this one-minute promo.

I would love an Atlantis remake but I doubt that's ever going to happen. The remakes are only happening to bank on the popularity of the originals. They aren't going to spend big bucks on a remake of a flop. And Atlantis by its nature needs a big budget. It can't be DisneyPlus-ed. When remakes of more popular films like Dumbo and Mary Poppins are underperforming in theaters and remakes of Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp are relegated to streaming, I don't see Disney giving Atlantis a chance. Tron had become a cult classic by the time the sequel was greenlit and even then it didn't reach Disney's expectations. Atlantis never developed a cult following like Tron did. Also, that happened during a different time at Disney. They were more willing to take chances then than they are now.

I never understood why Disney didn't go ahead with a sequel. Especially since Watson and the rest of the cast were very open to it. I'm guessing they were afraid that if a sequel failed at the box office it would tarnish the brand or affect the popularity of the original (even though some believe the remakes already do to that). That's why I don't expect a Lion King sequel either. Their fear is unfounded, in my opinion. Even if a sequel flopped (it wouldn't, at worst it would break even), the status of the original and the public perception of it wouldn't be affected.
